Success in what way? Raw is still number 1 in the demos most weeks, Smackdown is usually right there too for network demos, and they sell a crap ton of tickets overall. Unless you mean creative success. I get what you're saying because they're making money hand over fist, even more since they only have 9 employees left. They're down by every metric except what insane TV networks pay and insane despots pay. Their ratings fall pretty much at the same rate of non-sports, non-news TV ratings have over the years, and Smackdown has been pretty steady. Their live attendance is tricky because they have maintained pretty steady attendance for years but now the pandemic makes it tricky where some buildings were not being sold to capacity for much of last year. Social media/YouTube engagement is typically up over the years. I can see saying creatively they’re not a success, though, if you’re not digging what they’re putting out, Cranjis.

Key thing with ratings is as you say they are falling at the same rate as non sports shows. But they are getting sports money. How soon before the networks will only want to pay them non sports money? Which would be far far lower. And live events attendance was way down pre pandemic. There was talk about ending house shows as they were unprofitable. The pandemic saved them as WWE wanted to use them to reignite interest and more people were open to them after having no kind of events for long time.

If you are paying for any WWE products or services you are co-signing Vince’s opinion. Enjoy!

PPVs and TV attendance has been fairly steady though. And they don’t get paid anywhere near what the major sports get on a per episode/game basis.

He's correct.
He's making more cash than ever. Can abuse employees and not lose a dime. Just took one of competitors biggest names effectively killing their momentum.
Why change?
All hail WWE, the greatest company to ever exist ever

I'm mostly baffled the audience still tunes in. Shit was boring YEARS ago.
Feel bad for the talent as it's not their fault but man oh man do I not understand still tuning into these shows anymore.

All hail WWE, the greatest company to ever exist ever While I agree overall Cody will hardly kill their momentum(and its not even confirmed he will sign with WWE). he was a popular wrestler but storyline wise he was in a very mild spot. Its not like they took MJF,Mox or Hangman that are focal pieces right now

I suspect a lot of people are like I was for a long time - putting it on out of habit because I've been watching for literally about as long as I can remember, and mostly either playing around on their phones or doing something else while it was on. But they've lost me over the last year finally between NXT 2.0 and the releases of pretty much anyone I was interested in. It was more frequently saying "I'll watch this instead" at first, then my default was no longer RAW on if nothing else is on. It just doesn't factor in. I can't imagine watching it and just being riveted by what you see.

Wrestling is very much guided by the fans, This is being seen as a huge blow to AEW and a Win for WWE, It doesn't actually matter if that not technically the case. Other than that, I think it's time to find a new niche. WWE won, the monopoly reigns supreme. ETA Forbes reported this as similar as Hogan going to WCW

Seriously, some of us were beating the "Why am I watching this?" drum well over a decade ago, but I'm also someone who never really hesitated to stop watching any time there was a stretch where the show didn't appeal to me. Tough for me to see things from the perspective of a "lifer" fan with regards to pro wrestling, I guess.

They've been more interested in empire-building than putting on a good wrestling show for a long time now.

You’re part of the inflated numbers they use to get another massive deal that keeps them from having to actually listen to the audience, especially if the free version has ads to watch.

ETA Forbes reported this as similar as Hogan going to WCW There is no freaking way Cody Rhodes leaving is the same impact as Hulk Hogan leaving WWF for WCW. I do understand feeling deflated, because I’m starting to feel that too. Because despite all the shit WWE has pulled, and all the shit they pulled on Cody….he comes crawling back. They all do. Even Bret Hart came back. It’s like, no matter what WWE does, it’s all okay I’m the end and they get to be this huge company and nothing ever changes. So yeah, of course Vince has no reason to change.
