I love this place is so negative you’ve somehow convinced yourselves one of the biggest stars ever coming back is a bad idea. Sting in AEW though. That is good. (Which it is too) This is awesome news, be happy. I'm pretty sure we just had a lengthy discussion in the AEW Board (Since you want to bring it up) about telling other people how to feel about a situation. So can you kindly not do that? Like people are expressing legitimate concern over 57 year old Austin coming back and potentially working a match after 20 years, and the logistics if he even could, or if he'd just squash Owens in Erick Rowan fashion and it'd basically amount to nothing. Like a lot of fans have been fed up with WWE pushing older talent over literally everyone else but Roman Reigns. They aren't making new modern stars, they're making WrestleMania a glorified two night greatest hits special, and it's a legitimate problem. There are rumors next years Mania Main Events are Roman vs Rock and Becky vs Ronda, you don't see why some people are just kinda tired? A lot of people here love Stone Cold and loved his prime career, even liked the way he went out, and while Owens is a trusted worker, it's really not a "This is good, BE HAPPY" moment for everyone when shit like "DX vs Brothers of Destruction in Saudi" happened and Goldberg keeps getting thrown out there, the RAW women's division is so stagnant they need to have Lita work with Becky for the Chamber, or they can't let anyone over Brock Lesnar. Shane McMahon looked like a worldbeater in the Rumble for gods sake and well before it if you wanna pull the "He got sent home for his troubles" card... but they still LET HIM DO IT. Our Mania feud for the Intercontinental Title for Mania might also feature f***ing Johnny Knoxville... This is a another brick on an already cascading tower of issues WWE is mounting on itself in all the ways it feels like a bad idea. Is it good for a moment? If they pull it off! Lots of fans are just going to be happy to see Stone Cold in any capacity, who the f*** is denying that? It's Austin. But then... we're back to the same issues still plaguing the company because Stone Cold working one match at Mania and going over Kevin Owens doesn't really do anything. It's as EoE already referred to it, the last bullet in the chamber. Austin might unretire for a Mania... after this? They're running out of things to do, and frankly, they're running out of time on the Nostalgia bait, and not doing anything to soften the blow when they do. My point is, don't try and say "THIS is happening and it's awesome but you aren't happy with THIS" like it's some hypocrisy, when it's a very apples to oranges situation and it really isn't that simple for everyone.

One other note - I'll stand by the fact that HBK looked perfectly fine in that Crown Jewel match and didn't look like he lost too much of a step. It's when HHH got hurt that everything went sideways and HBK basically had to save the whole thing himself. I only wish it was like HBK vs. AJ or Seth or something. That would have been a way better use of his time.

I mean, on paper, it didn't look great with Kane being rusty and Taker being...well, wrecked beyond belief according to WWE's own documentary so when HHH was hurt, well, it went the way it did.

They’ve established tons of main event stars since Austin retired. Cena Batista Reigns Lesnar Orton Etc It should be a touch worrying to you that outside of Roman Reigns, none of the men you listed are under 40, and some of them have left wrestling entirely. It's 2022, not 2013. These are kind of the issues people are bringing up with WWE not looking to the future, like whatsoever. You can name a few "more important" stars WWE has also tried to make of more recent memory (Owens, McIntyre, Big E) but those guys constantly get shoved back down the cards themselves, and aren't treated like they're in the same echelon as the people you listed are, even as former world champions. Which is why one of the guys in Owens is literally being discussed here in potentially losing to a 57 year old Stone Cold... you are painting the picture the guys here every week are just here to catch a body for the Attitude Era days cause "Hey guys, remember THOSE?" and it's as I said above... not great, it wasn't great ten years ago, or five years ago, it's worse now because it's still happening, and Father Time doesn't job.

That would have been a way better use of his time. Of course, that's why when Shawn blamed himself and the match basically scared him back into retirement, people were pissed, because he looked legit fine out there and probably could have had a really good match with anyone else, or potential classics with an AJ Styles at Mania, but instead... it had to be THAT. Dude years ago was talking about potential what if matches with Samoa Joe and we as fans got... that... even if HHH didn't get f***ed with the injury, I just can't imagine many worlds where that match went well...

I was at the last Dallas Wrestlemania where he helped beat up the League of Nations, that was ugly and seven years ago. I can’t see Austin taking a bunch of bumps if any at all.

I bet this is all BS. No chance this happens. This same rumour seems to happen every year.

One thing I will give WWE a whole lot of credit for they understand the carrot and the stick.
It says they have made overtures but not that Austin has accepted and if he has then it aint for a match because you do not bring the GOAT out of retirement and I like him but for Kevin Owens...naw and ontop of that how many weeks we got till Mania? again nothing here could possibly do Austin having a match in 20yrs justice.
This absoloutley feels like an internal rumor thrown out to get everyones attenas perking up and believing even for half a second this is entirely possible because everyone knows the only guarantee here is Austin will more than likely be at Mania.
Because really the presumed Mania card atleast on paper looks like trash so whats an easy way to kick up attention throw out even the slightest possibilityy of Austin having one more match and judging by the responses across the interwebz it worked.

A prospective match between Austin and Owens at Wrestlemania this year can go one of two ways I believe.
1. It's a kick wham stunner 10 second win for Austin.
2. It's an ugly, messy, watch through your eyes 10 minute mess with, again, Austin winning.
I don't really see it any other way, and I don't see it being good for Owens or Austin in the long run. But hey, if this excites you, then don't let me thinking its gonna be shit un-excite you.
EDIT: Actually, I just thought of a third possibility- a brawl through the crowd and backstage area (think Austin and Booker in the supermarket) and then back to the ring for a kick wham stunner win for Austin. That probably wouldn't be too bad and Owens could make it work in a 'Shawn selling for Hogan' ludicrous type of way.

So it comes down to either finding the right thing creatively or his own body, I can't imagine either is the right place. Most of all he seems happy and made peace with the end of career long ago.

I'll believe it when I see it, even then it'll probably be like Rock vs. Rowan from WM32.

Austin himself has said is took him years to finally get rid of the itch to ever wanna get back in the ring so I cannot imagine he comes out of retirement just for a Kevin Owens match if does at all.
And also this could end up back firing on ole Vinny mack because hypothetically lets say Austin gets the preverbial itch again...what would stop him from getting the Mania pay day and then walking into AEW getting an equal massive pay day to do the Cm Punk match that Austin said years ago would be the one match he would come out of retirement for.

NO! Austin retired in 2003 due to major neck issues. To his credit, unlike Terry Funk, he has STAYED AWAY from wrestling in general. This will be another case of retirements meaning nothing in wrestling.

The last time I thought there was even a slight chance that Steve might get back in the ring, was when they were seemingly teasing stuff between him and CM Punk.
IDK how to feel about this if it happens? I don’t HATE it, but I do have some concerns at the same time.

Fair play to KO, if I was offered an Austin mania match I'd probably have re-signed too. Stuff of dreams.

He'd be a fine addition to the AEW seniors division.
Book Steve Austin vs Minoru Suzuki!

I mean I would love to see it no doubt and would mark out heavily but I am worried about him. This is a big step for a guy who’s been out the ring almost 20 years.
If it’s a quick squash on Owens fine. Owens doesn’t have much to lose at this point really. The crowd would go nuts regardless.
