I only have one complaint about the movie. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The movie ignores almost 40 years of the characters history. They've been around since the 1940's. But this movie has them meeting for the first time in the 1980's.
For all the deep cuts this movie has, it's odd that they just pretend that the very history of the two main characters never happened.

I thought it was great. You take away all the meta humour and it's very true to the show and a solid family action movie. I will concede it's nowhere near as wild as I thought it'd be, but it's still wholesome. For anyone wondering/worrying about Gadget {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}She shows up towards the end and she's still her sweet wholesome smart self, she even says to Dale, and the audience, there's no difference between who she is on the show or off.

The twist, for those curious: {Spoiler}is that she and the team’s firefly buddy got married and had several kids. It’s largely treated with some laughs but it’s a very healthy relationship.

OK, gathered my thoughts, time for critical nitpicks {Spoiler}It's less about the Rescue Rangers as a team and more about Chip and Dale playing 'detective' with a human cop while sorting out their showbiz issues and debating the relevancy of their brand
The 4chan rumour that Pluto was the villain wasn't true, though I suspect it may have been in the earlier script drafts. But those saying 'Sweet Pete' wasn't An older Peter Pan were dead wrong, and he is the main villain of the film. His whole backstory is actually a riff on the tragedy of Bobby Driscoll
I like what they did with Zipper and his Babies Ever After romance with Gadget, but it's a real bummer that Monty, him and Gadget really don't get involved in the final fight at all, Gadget is very much the taxi driver to Dale and says to him, and essentially the audience, that she'll never change as as character, almost as if responding to internet speculation she'd be a feminist man-hating action chick...that's fine, but actually do something like show your smarts instead. She doesn't do either. She's just Happily Married and that's it.
This is essentially another Sonic movie too. Ugly Sonic has the best scenes and is more crucial in tying up the final act of the movie than Monty, Zipper, or Gadget are. SONIC. In a Disney movie, is more plot relevant than the Disney afternoon characters.

That…kind of ruled? Like, it wasn’t a masterpiece or anything but I didn’t feel like I wasted my time with it. And if my family want to watch it, I’ll gladly watch it again. EDIT: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Somehow, one of the more wholesome bits was Seth Rogan, Seth Rogan and Seth Rogan mocking Seth Rogan. Some of the stuff they pulled off really did have a Who Framed Roger Rabbit vibe in “Those negotiations must have been hell”.
Also, the moment I heard the bit at the end, it was either going to be Post Malone or a female artist so I’m glad I kind of called it.
Also also, for someone who hates Avengers United We Stand, having Tygra in there was the last deep cut I expected.

I liked that more than I expected. Not perfect, needed way more Gadget, but in terms of what it was, it did everything just right.

Fun, little film.. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Being a G1 Transformers fan I did not notice original animated series Blaster in a crowd show.
And I thought it would have been cool if Dale’s car was one the lesser used Transformers used since G1 like Gears of Windcharger.
Or maybe one of the cronies of the villains was AstroTrain or something..
Well anyway there were just ideas I had.

This was a super cynical, but still pretty heartwarming and hysterical movie.
My favorite aspect of this were the easily missable sign gags. My two favorites were Lego Miserables and a "Vote For Senator Butthead" park bench ad.

I figured that would be the heel turn so was surprised when it was J.K. Simmons

I just got done watching the film. I'm gonna be honest. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was actually pretty fun. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Peter Pan being the main villain was actually kinda surprising, and yet, it made a lot of sense. Former child actor goes rogue.
Zipper and Gadget getting married was kind of a WTF moment for me, but it didn't ruin the movie.
It felt like Roger Rabbit 2.0, but it was still really fun.

Reading all of the news since this was announced I was kind of weary about it because the original description sounded horrible…but both the wife and I really enjoyed it. It really was meant to take the piss out of the nostalgia and remake craze but I wouldn’t mind if they did a sequel that was more of a closer remake storyline wise if it was as fun as this.
