Considering the Olympics on NBC did less than 7 million viewers I wouldn't think about that as a factor. Maybe people just wanted to see the Knicks blow a 28-point lead That was what I was reading haha Used to be a Knicks fan during the 90s but between the ownership and blunders the last 20 years I just can't anymore with them. Lol They pulled me back in with that run last year. And that ended up being a fluke.

Meanwhile, Florida/Carolina on TNT did just 234k and 0.07 in the demo.
I know the hockey ratings on TNT haven't been great, but I didn't realise they were this bad.......to think they're paying 250 million a year for the NHL.

But you have all the mitigating factors as to why there weren't as many TV viewers in general last night and you combine that with two teams that struggle to even have a local fanbase play each other, and it makes for an extremely unattractive national game. Even though both teams are at the top of their respective divisions (well, Carolina is in second place, but still).

Gonna guess its just a typical drop from the big episode last week. Tony has a habit of promising big major announcements and then failing to deliver. Last week was no exception, to be honest.

I don't think you can firmly say it's people tuning out because they didn't get the level of surprise they wanted. I feel like most people thought it was going to be Keith.

Keith Lee was received very well and Jay White was a nice surprise, too. I doubt the drop-off had anything to do with either.

Yeah, I completely forgot about the Knicks/Nets. The comeback must have really taken away some viewers considering how crazy that was.

No Danhausen this week. Tony Elite made a mistake in judgement.

The last two shows were pretty much ppvs.
I wouldnt call it a filler week, but there wasn't anything you had to see.

Seems like the show just started bad and got worse.
Wonder if there might be some level of people being tired of Punk / MJF. Last few weeks it hasn't been delivering.

The show only really dropped after the opener, which is normal ,even if the drop probably was bigger than normal and after the IC tag match, it wasnt a started bad and got worse And seems the main event didnt really have people interest , honestly I wasnt either. I didnt care about the Rosa match or the TNT title match .So will say it was more a case of a weak upper half of the card

Both the Olympics and Knicks/Nets did well but, not enough to cause this kind of a drop.
Still 3rd so, no panic needed.

Observations from looking @ many a quarter chart: Making the first match a Veteran vs. Rookie match has a Madden curse effect that scientists are only beginning to understand, even if it's a good match. Also something interesting is that even when Jericho segments don't boost the 18-49 the total viewers still goes way up. Mothers love the Judas.

I think AEW and WWE have basically the exact same rating patterns. The diehards who will watch every single week no matter what is advertised. Probably on average around 900,000-1m for Dynamite and 1.6-1.7m for Raw. Then there are those extra 200-300,000 people who only tune in when something particularly big is advertised but never come back the next week. To get those people it either has to be a gimmick/bigger than average show (draft/night after Wrestlemania type thing for Raw, Blood & Guts/Winter is Coming type thing for Dynamite) or hype for a big return/debut. Ideally you'd want to turn those people into regular weekly viewers but no show seems capable of doing that. Seems like the show just started bad and got worse. Wonder if there might be some level of people being tired of Punk / MJF. Last few weeks it hasn't been delivering. That was the opener and it got the strongest viewership numbers and second strongest demo. With the Big Bang Theory lead-in on TBS now the opening segment is going to be the highest rated segment 95% of the time going forward regardless of who's in it. We somehow live in a world where in 2022 Sheldon Cooper has a not insignificant effect on pro wrestling TV ratings.

At least Mox streak of gaining viewers continues
The show just didn't start at the usual point it normally does. The NBA/Olympics/South Park are absolutely playing a role here. It is what it is and there will be some lesser weeks. This was more than likely a week people didn't think they NEEDED to watch live as opposed to last week which had a ton of big time matches that delivered, including a deathmatch main event. But it was still 3rd in cable... on a floor week, that's great. It happens, and I'm sure people will try and spin narratives, but if and when the number goes back up as it usually does next week, people will then go silent, yet again. I am shocked Sammy/Darby didn't gain viewers though, Darby draws a lot of the time, people must have just figured Sammy wasn't dropping the belt this soon a second time. Jericho and Mox bumped it up though.
