IDK, blaming Big Bang Theory for how many viewers it brought to the table seems funny to me. It's big bang theory every week. That shouldn't cause that much of a fluctuation. And if it's not Big Bang theory it's South Park and if it's not that it's basketball. Not saying it's doom and gloom etc. Just sometimes ratings are going to go down. It happens. Basically, it’s been said before (over and over and over again), one of the worst things the Monday Night Wars did was make wrestling fans obsessed with ratings and getting the number as high as possible week by week (mostly because wrestling didn’t have to worry about demos at the time so that was the real victory for either side) and as a result, these discussions are trying to put a thing to ratings that this is why people didn’t tune or this didn’t or that which to an extent is fine but also it gets all silly at times with some going gun Ho on “THIS IS TERRIBLE, THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING NOW!” (It hasn’t happened here but I’ve seen it in other threads) or unnecessary defending from those people or in general when in that circumstance, it was just a number. Now, if it’s a consistent thing or something of that line (Raw’s drop over the past decade, Impact unable to break past 1.2, Nitro getting its ass kicked and having no solution) that’s different and it could be something to start it off here or it could be nothing. Nobody really knows. Also, both Raw and Dynamite are likely doing better than average because we never really see the +2 or +7 DVR numbers which by all accounts, they’re both doing well in. It’s just the question of how to get people watching right now to get the advertisers happy since, well, that’s what they want. Yeah where I think it gets silly is stuff like "Well the winter olympics is on and the bobsled started right when Moxley's match started. So that explains that the ratings during that."

You joke but Jamaica are back in the Bobsled so that could genuinely take some viewers away.

I always find the "fans are just finding excuses" idea really funny. Like, we're talking about the ratings. The fun part is speculating about why a rating was a particular way, or having the satisfaction of seeing what is and isn't successful. And we know that good shows can do poorly and bad shows can do well, and that there are certain historical patterns (like "Darby Allin in the main event wrestling for the TNT title does well") to track. Add in specifics like "Dynamite was still #3 on cable despite losing about 300,000 viewers," and it's interesting to puzzle out why there were apparently less people watching TV and what outside factors could have been in play, or why a pattern like the aforementioned Darby Allin one might have been broken.
Like, what, if the rating is down, are we just supposed to all moan in unison that the show was bad and it got borne out objectively?

I think I've said this before, and this is a general thing not about people here, but I don't care what their rating is as long as I enjoy the show
I don't care if Miz vs. Reigns gets 5mil viewers and a Punk promo 500k, I'll still prefer the Punk promo so I'll be happy with AEW
I remember the only alternative to WWE was ROH dvds, ROH weren't even popular enough to get on TV, shows we're hard to come by especially in the UK, but they were the only company I watched. Now we have a true alternative on weekly TV producing fantastic shows and making money infront of thousands of paid fans with guys getting paid well but I've seen some people call for change as another wrestling show with a completely different style and product gets more viewers
30 Rock and Arrested Development were never as popular as Friends or Big Bang Theory, but people who enjoyed those shows didn't see the weekly ratings and say Liz Lemon needs to stay in her apartment with her 6 friends just hanging out in order to bump the ratings
I an only imagine the people who want AEW to change to grow a bigger audience don't actually really enjoy AEW? Or at least want to see them changes to fit what they would enjoy more? But I do enjoy AEW so I REALLY hope they they don't try to change!

I guess the argument about Big Bang Theory being a "bad lead in this week" is more funny than anything to me.

It's also a good way to seeing what the wider culture of TV viewers likes right now. I didn't even know The Challenge was a thing until these ratings threads and it might not be my bag but it shows that's what people like. It makes it a bit more complicated with streaming and what's coming out on that day (Most new Marvel/Star Wars shows come out Wednesdays so people could be watching those but there's no way of tracking that at the moment) but it's still a cool thing to discuss. Like, Raw is against Football for a good chunk of the year, so it makes for interesting discussion of what game's on that day and what WWE do to counter-programme (or in some cases, don't) that.

Like, what, if the rating is down, are we just supposed to all moan in unison that the show was bad and it got borne out objectively? 100% this. Usually, there's no one single reason why ratings are up or down for a WWE or AEW show. The closest we get to that is when Monday Night Football is on against Raw. When there's rating dips during football season, MNF is such a ratings juggernaut that it's the elephant in the room.
There's a myriad of reasons and we're discussing them. They aren't excuses, but there are a number of factors that go into why shows, and television in general, have an ebb and flow of viewership numbers beyond the simplistic reasoning of "show is bad." Each of them chip away at overall viewership.
I don't see anyone going "LOL @ AEW RATING" like we used to get during the WWECW and TNA Impact days, but on the other hand, I think the people who only post things like "you're just making excuses" are posting in bad faith or outright concern trolling.

Big Bang Theory reruns are a big ratings draw for TBS and have worked really well for a lead-in for their original programming. I don't know why that show does so well in syndication in particular, but that's just the way it is.

I don't get why the rating was down, that was a fire show.

I don't get why the rating was down, that was a fire show. It was just a down week all around in cable, shown by Dynamite still getting third in demo. I think Network TV just had the eyes this week more so
