23. Mortal Kombat 11 I like this game slightly more than X. The graphics, netcode and overall gameplay were improved. The constant 50/50s are gone, thankfully. Still a lack of depth, though. I didn't enjoy story mode as much as X, and there's way too much grinding for items. I don't think the new characters were quite a strong as they were in X. I did like Kollector, though. And I'm happy they brought back Frost. My hope for the next MK is they ditch the variations and decrease how much grinding you have to do.

I really liked Cetrion in MK11 as far as the newbies went. IIRC, she was usually pretty high in tier lists, too.
Granted, there were only 3 outright new playable characters in MK11 (not counting the guest characters like Spawn, Joker, etc.): Cetrion, Kollector, and Geras. Mortal Kombat X had 10 newbies (including DLC and not including guest characters). Though MK9 only had Skarlet, so I guess it could've been worse.

22. Tekken 7 It's nice to see Tekken on top again. Tekken 6 was kind of overshadowed by SFIV and then TTT2 didn't sell too well. They made some good decisions with this game to restore Tekken back to its former glory. It also helped that SFV was such a disaster. They added a story mode. It kind of sucks but it's better than nothing. I'm not a huge fan of guest characters but they definitely helped. Akuma being in the game enticed some SF players over. Geese would've brought in the KOF players. And, uh, Noctis and Negan brought in the FF and WD fans! A lot of good changes were made to the gameplay. You can now tech rp and lp throws with one button; I was useless at breaking throws in TTT2. The slowdown that occurs when you're about to get the last hit is hype. They added rage arts which makes the game flashier. But best of all, they didn't sacrifice the depth of the game. Tekken has so much depth thanks to the millions of moves and characters. There is a big negative, though: the online sucks. What happened? TTT2 had amazing online. It didn't even work properly on launch. There were also balance issues with the DLC characters. I wasn't playing at the time but I've heard the Leeroy horror stories. Tekken is a really fun game to learn, though. Probably my favourite series when it comes to the actual competitive gameplay.

I loved Tekken 7. Gesse and Akuma having their series mechanics (super moves, EX moves, meter, command inputs, etc) was hilarious. Noctis was also surprisingly fun to play as.
And, of course, you can't post about T7 on a wrestling board without mentioning the NJPW collab. I love the Tanahashi and Okada costumes that Lars and King have. And you can give everyone the Bullet Club logo shirts or make your bars and profile card themed after CHAOS. I am surprised that Bryan Fury didn't have a Kenny Omega costume, though, since that seemed to be the collab with the in-game shirt.

21. Mortal Kombat Trilogy Something I realised while making this list was that I've never actually played MK3. It was Trilogy where I played it, so you can consider this placement to basically be MK3. I know the original MK3 had no Scorpion or Kitana. What was that about? If we're talking new characters, I like Kabal. Stryker gets a lot of hate, and he is kind of lame in this game, but they redeemed him in 9. If we're talking specifically Trilogy, you could play as the boss characters, which was cool. This game was a lot of fun and this would be the last great MK for a while.

20. Dragon Ball FighterZ This is why I said I would've loved MVC3 if it came out today. This is game is very similar to the MVC series and I thought it was great. The story mode, the graphics (it is an ARCYs game, after all) and the gameplay were all good stuff. I remember the online having some issues at launch, but I think the actual connections were good, it just had other problems (again, it's an ARCYs game). My team was Android 21, 18 and Gotenks. I didn't play the game very long, though; no real reason, I just stopped. No opinion on the DLC characters because of that.

Ah MK, snes version was solid despite the lack of blood. Beware of Johnny Cage's deadly KICK TO THE CHEST finishing move! I did like Sub-Zero's, Scorpion's, Sonya's, and Raiden's SNES finishers, however.

19. Soul Calibur II The sequel to the amazing Soul Calibur. I bought the Xbox version because it had Spawn. PS2 version had Heihachi, who I had no interest in, and the GC version had Link, but I didn't own a GC. I loved this game but I don't quite love it as much as the first game and III. It wasn't as mind-blowing as the first game and I enjoyed SCIII's single-player modes more. Competitively, I believe this is considered the best Soul Calibur and it's all downhill from here. I didn't buy the online version, which I regret. I need to play this game again, actually. I haven't played it since it came out, so maybe that's affected its ranking a bit. Still, it's 19th out of 70.

18. Capcom Vs. SNK 2 First of all, this game has one of the best character select themes ever. Second of all, this game is great. As someone who only played one KOF growing up, a lot of these characters were new and fresh to me. I remember the stages in this game being a standout, too. I really wish Capcom would release an online version of this game. I don't know too much about it competitively. I believe Cammy, Sakura and Blanka were all really good, and I main those three (I loved Hibiki, too), so... yeah, that'd be fun.

Capcom vs SNK 2 was really good times. It also gave us some really fun memes at the time. Like the power of Sagat's crouching fierce.

17. Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha My favourite EX game and one of my favourite fighting games. This game had so many amazing characters, like Skullomania, Garuda, Darun, D. Dark, etc. They would've fit perfectly in the 2D games. And what can I even say about the OST? It's one of the best ever, fighting games or not. Precious Heart, Guardian of Light, Strange Sunset, Rising Dragon, etc. How could you rival SFII's OST? Well, they did it. If I had to pick one, I'd say Precious Heart was my favourite. Gameplay-wise it was fun, too. I remember it had a focus style attack, and I always loved the meteor that would crash on your opponent when you finished them with a super.

16. Mortal Kombat 9 Mortal Kombat finally returned to its former glory with this reboot. It took influence from SFIV and became a 2.5D game, which was great to see. The story mode was so good. Going through the events of the first three MKs was so nostalgic. Probably still the best Story Mode in a fighting game. And, as usual, there's so much offline content. The graphics were great at the time. I remember just loving Sub-Zero's ice effects. Animations are stiff but that's MK. All the characters from the first three games are back (well, except Rain, although he was DLC). But they did the unthinkable: they made Stryker a cool character! He actually turned out to be my favourite, which I never thought I'd say. He and Jade were my mains. X-Ray attacks were a really cool addition, as were the EX moves. When it comes to competitive play and balance, I have nothing to say, because, unfortunately, the online was awful, so I barely played it. But I definitely got my money's worth playing offline.

15. Guilty Gear Xrd This is it. The game where I finally learnt how to play an anime fighter. I lucked out in that I wanted to main Faust and he turned out to be a great beginner character. Once I'd learnt him, I got to grips with Axl and Bedman, too. I fell in love with this game. It had the most amazing graphics I'd seen in a fighting game up to that point. The Instant Kill attacks are spectacular. I absolutely loved the character designs. As someone who likes kooky characters, GG has so many of them. This game did have a story mode, but from what I remember, it was just a bunch of cutscenes. I mean, the game does look amazing but I wasn't interested. Online was okay. I found ranked matches really laggy but lobby matches were decent. This game was so hard. Even though I fared a lot better here than in past games, I still struggled quite a bit. I'm fairing a lot better in Strive (won't be listed because I'm currently playing it). Anyway, I loved this game but I think the online and, actually, some of the offline content prevents me from putting it even higher.

14. Street Fighter Alpha 3 The final game of the Alpha series. I had this on DC and I regret to say that I sold it for some stupid reason, and it's worth quite a lot now. Dammit. But this game was amazing. It had a huge roster, bright colourful graphics and World Tour mode. World Tour mode was a lot of fun but I could never get that far into it when I was a kid. New characters introduced were Mika, Karin, Cody, Juli and Juni. And some old favourites were added, too. Isms were new, also. This game was fun but it always resulted in me getting a sore thumb thanks to the Dreamcast controller, lol.

I still insist she wasn't fueled by my fury, but by Bison spamming his Psycho Crusher. It's starting to boil up again.

Arc Systems Works' original fighters have hilariously convoluted storylines that barely make any sense. You do the story modes for any in-game rewards or stuff like achievements/trophies, but they're not like, well-written or anything. As convoluted and all over the place as Guilty Gear's story is, BlazBlue's makes it look straightforward by comparison lol.
At least the Persona 4 Arena games and DBFZ are a lot better in this regard, though it's helped by having already existing material to base it on as well as direct oversight from their IP holders.

While I didn't like a lot of A3 music compared to SF2's and SFA1-2's, this is one of the best fighting game boss fight themes ever. Up there with some of the bangers SNK's put out over the years like Omega Rugal's, Geese's, and the Orochi New Face Team's, as well as Midnight Carnival and Awe of She from ASW's Guilty Gear series.
