13. Virtua Fighter 4 I mentioned this, but I felt like this and T4 were rivals. Ultimately, I thought VF4 was a much better game. VF4 looked amazing at the time. The characters and the stages were incredibly detailed. There were two new characters added: Vanessa and Lei-Fei. I preferred Lei-Fei because he was so spammy. Speaking of the stages, they were incredible. It blew my mind when, on the snow stage, the snow would shift under your feet, or on the water stage, water would fling through the air. My favourite, though, was the stage where the tiles on the ground would shatter when you or your opponent landed on them. This game had something similar to an online ranked mode but it was offline. You'd travel around 'arcades' and fight the AI. You'd rank up and collect clothing you could customize your character with. It was just so fun. If I had to nitpick, the voice acting is hilariously bad. This game was amazing and it only just misses my top ten. It was getting really difficult ranking these games at this point!

I will be sad if Rival Schools and Project Justice don't show up after this.
On that note, Psychic Force 2 stands out to my memory primarily for having the most depressing story mode ever. Every single character story seemed to end with them dying, broken, or finding out they were really helping the villains all along.

So going back to one of the earlier games mentioned on this thread, awhile ago, I played a leaked beta of the US version of Fighting Vipers 2 on the Dreamcast (the game was cancelled due to the Dreamcast's abrupt discontinuation in 2001) and that game was hilariously rough in all the right ways.

Much as I love Third Strike, Alpha 3 might be tied with CvS2 for my most played Capcom fighter ever. I spent hours trying to get Gen’s tool kit down and just abusing Sakura’s rush DP. I miss Sodom so much, he was crazy in that.

My best characters in A3 tended to be Akuma and Sagat. I never really got the hang of V-ism, so I just stuck to A-ism.

12. Dissidia Final Fantasy As a Final Fantasy fanboy, this was definitely gonna rank high. It's a great game, though, and I feel it deserves it. I can't even describe how giddy I was playing this. The FF nostalgia was high. Seeing all my favourite characters again, all interacting with each other, some of them voiced for the first time, was mind blowing. The graphics and music are amazing, of course. This might be the best looking PSP game. The music has some original tracks (which are great) but it's mostly amazing remixes of old FF music. I loved all the RPG elements they added. You could level up your characters and buy weapons and accessories. Good stuff. The gameplay was great. They wanted to replicate the fights in Advent Children and they did a good job. You can fly around the arenas, run up walls and all that crazy stuff. You have to deplete your opponent's 'Bravery' and then you can hit them with an HP attack that will lower their health bar. The attacks are flashy and are taken from the FF games. I spent so much time on this game leveling up my characters, unlocking new moves and collecting all the equipment. I loved it.

Kuja is a pain in the ass to fight in that game. “Come dance with me!” I’m all like “F*** OFF!”

11. Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy And the sequel to Dissidia. There are more characters to choose from this time around, my personal favourite new additions being Lighting, Laguna and Tifa. The world map has been improved, as well. Now it's an actual world you can walk around. In some ways, I did enjoy the first one more, just because it was fresh and new, but I think this is overall the better game.

And we're at the top 10! Any predictions? I haven't seen MK2, any version of SF2, or any Killer Instincts games on the list yet, so I figure those play into your Top 10 at the very least

Dissidia 012 is one of those games I'm sad I missed out on because my PSP's screen got messed up. The original Dissidia was a lot better than I ever expected it to be (my mains were Sephiroth, Zidane, Terra, and Exdeath... I think). Hopefully both Dissidia games end up on the new PS+ service when it launches later this year. And if Square ever greenlights another Dissidia game, it's more like those and far less like the much worse NT.
And while not a fighting game, the mobile game Dissidia Opera Omnia is surprisingly good (and actually does a pretty good job of being a gacha game that isn't all that predatory compared to its peers).

The only game that made my mom take away my PlayStation for a day. I still insist she wasn't fueled by my fury, but by Bison spamming his Psycho Crusher. It's starting to boil up again. While I didn't like a lot of A3 music compared to SF2's and SFA1-2's, this is one of the best fighting game boss fight themes ever. Up there with some of the bangers SNK's put out over the years like Omega Rugal's, Geese's, and the Orochi New Face Team's, as well as Midnight Carnival and Awe of She from ASW's Guilty Gear series. Just noticed you're right. I can't remember even one other theme from the game. Comparing that with Soul Blade or Battle Arena Toshinden 2, I think those have not a single theme I DON'T remember.

10. Mortal Kombat II The much-improved sequel. And it's actually still playable today! More characters, more fatalities (character and stage) and the addition of Babalities and Friendships. No Test Your Might, though, which sucks. This game introduced Kung Lao, Jax, young Shang Tsung, Kitana, Mileena and Baraka. As a kid, I loved Kung Lao and Baraka the most. I don't think I completed Arcade Mode once; Shao Khan was so cheap. This had to be the height of my Mortal Kombat love as a kid. It was so hype, and looking at that front cover is so nostalgic. I think most people consider II to be their favourite; maybe some will choose UMK3 or 9. But, yeah, I'm going with this one, too.

When the Arcade Kollection came out for PS3, I played the shit out of it and never beat Shao Khan. There were literally multiple times he kicked my ass by spamming one move, cheap motherf***er. Gill and Seth have nothing on MK II Shao Khan

9. Soul Calibur III I spent so many hours on this game. With character creation, Tales of Souls and Chronicles of the Sword, there was just so much to do. The new characters consisted of Setsuka, Zasalamel and Tira. A really solid bunch all with unique playstyles. I think this game is most well known for Chronicles of the Sword. It was like playing an RPG, taking your created character on a journey and leveling them up. I loved it. I know this game was a mess competitively. It was apparently full of glitches and was just utterly broken. So in that sense, I don't think the game is highly regarded in the tournament scene, and some people might say it was the start of SC's downfall. However, as just a button-mashing kid at the time who only played offline, this game was amazing. Honestly, my only complaint would be the QTEs. Yes, this game had QTEs. Wtf was that about? But they weren't frequent, so it's a nitpick.

Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken 5, some form of Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 4 will probably be in the top 10 since I haven't seen them yet. All classics worthy of that.

Kensei: Sacred Fist feat. fake Steven Seagal is still missing, so there's your no. 1. I could see Ehrgeiz making a surprise entry, because of what a unique yet well working blend it was.

8. Power Stone 2 Funnily enough, I just got this game back today after selling it all those years ago like a dummy. The retro game store I visit just happened to have it! Anyway, this game was amazing. I absolutely loved the unique, colourful characters and the hectic gameplay. Collecting all of the power stones during a fight and transforming was so hype. All the characters were fun. Seriously, I don't think I can pick any favourites. Maybe Wang Tang, because he transformed into a Super Saiyan. The item creation was so addicting. I spent so many hours trying to create every item in this game. The Dreamcast had so many amazing fighting games and this was definitely one of them. Please make a Power Stone 3, Capcom.
