Tekken 5 was the one that had the stage with the penguins, right? That's one of my all-time favorite fighting game stages ever.

Lee's Poolside stage was dope too. So many amazing stages in that game. Also Moonlit Wilderness is a top 10 fighting game theme.

2. Tekken 5 As soon as you start up Tekken 5, you know it's gonna be amazing. Why? Because it has the best opening to a fighting game ever! You've got Kazuya and Heihachi versus a million Jacks, Heihachi "dies" and then SPARKING starts playing. I still get goosebumps watching that opening. But what an improvement this game was over Tekken 4. They really listened to the criticism and just went all out. More characters, no more uneven stages, character customization, and they even added the first three Tekken games. There was a new Tekken Force type mode. Honestly, I wasn't a fan of it, though. There were so many characters in this game. A lot of Tekken 2 returns, with the likes of Bruce and Baek, etc, and they all had new moves. The new characters included Asuka, Feng Wei, Raven and Jinpachi. And technically there were others, like Roger Jr. I thought it was great they brought Jun's moveset back, though it was still very different in ways. Raven, though I didn't care about him in this game, would later become one of my mains (and then Master Raven). Feng's fun, too. Jinpachi is one of those cheap bosses every fg needs. This game introduced 'crush', which means moves will either go over or under moves. This is both annoying and hype. As a Xiaoyu main, I've made so many people rage by going under their shit. I barely know anything about competitive T5. I believe this version was really unbalanced and DR was much better in that regard. I want to say Steve was insanely OP. I spent so many hours on this game unlocking items to customize my characters with. Like, if I made a list of games I've spent the most time on (don't worry, that's not my next list), this would be in the top 10. There's only one fighting game I've played more... I'll try this one out! ' will order it next month (if not tomorrow) ~ ! Thanks! I'm pretty unfamiliar with fighting games, but always loved Tekken games on PS1. This one I think I haven't ever played...

1. Rise of the Robots This might be a surprise choice but I've always considered this game to be underrated. A lot of people complained that you could only play one character in Arcade Mode. The thing is, there are so many interesting and cool characters in the game, that it would be difficult to decide who to play, so I like that the game limits your choice. People complained that the game is slow. To be honest, the slow speed makes it easier to react, so I appreciate it. The graphics were amazing at the time. And I'm dead serious. Dead f***ing serious. I mean, just look at it. And that's it! Thanks for checking out my list!

1. Street Fighter IV Oh, alright. Street Fighter IV is my number one fighting game of all time. It came out when Street Fighter was pretty much dead or dying, at least. As much as people love SFIII, now, it wasn't that beloved back when it was released, at least by casuals (I didn't even play it). And then SFIV was announced with updated graphics and all the old school characters returning. They decided to make the game 2.5D, which was a great move. So when I first played this, I enjoyed it but I soon dropped it. And then I saw a tournament match between a Sagat and a Dhalsim. The Dhalsim player was amazing but I can't remember his name, unfortunately. Anyway, that inspired me to learn how to actually play the game. I learnt Rufus, who was a great beginner character, and then eventually I moved on to Blanka, Sakura and Cammy. The new characters were a mixed bag. Abel was whatever. El Fuerte... I'm a wrestling fan but I hate El Fuerte. Rufus was fun but I know he got a lot of hate. C. Viper was cool but I never enjoyed playing her. Juri and Hakan were much better new characters, in my opinion. So this game has quite a lot of offline content. There are unlockable characters and artwork and colours. There's a decent amount of modes, like Arcade, Survival and combo trials. I have a lot to say about this game when it comes to competitive play. IV was actually considered to be dumbed down compared to III, which is funny because V is even easier to play. This game had difficult combos, most requiring one frame links. There were also focus attack dash cancel combos. There was a lot of depth, which is missing in V. There was a lot of dumb stuff, too. Crouch tech, vortex, no universal reversal (like v-reversal), etc. But it was just really fun and satisfying to play. Sagat was very OP, although I think Seth and Akuma were better. A lot of people say the console exclusive characters were weak, but they were mostly unexplored. I'll briefly go over the other versions: Super: My favourite. Probably the most balanced version, but some might say Ultra. The new characters, aside from Adon, and maybe Ibuki were weak (Makoto, especially). I always thought the strongest character was Chun, but others would say Fei or Cammy or someone else I'm forgetting. Arcade Edition: The worst version. Actually killed the game for me for a while. Yun and Yang were purposely overpowered. I think they did the same with Fei, too. Ultra: They added the SFxT SF characters, which was really nice. I loved Rolento and Poison. Balance wise, I can't say much about it because I finally started to move on. I know Elena was a monster, but I was long gone by the time people figured that out. TL;DR: SFIV is my favourite because it got me into fighting games where I moved on from being a button masher. I have so many great memories playing this game with my friends. I played it for 7 to 8 years consistently. I'm a proud 09er. And that's it! (I mean it this time) Thanks for checking out my list!

Great list. SFIV was really an era. The announcement of that game to the FGC's revival and tourneys and such, all of that really made that game shine so I can see why it's number one.

No Killer Instincts at all? I’ve heard good things about the reboot a few years back.

What I appreciate most about Street Fighter 4 is that each revision really added onto it (with the exception of the original release of Arcade Edition and the free 2012 balance patch course corrected there). Its ultimate revision, Ultra Street Fighter IV had a staggeringly large roster of characters, twice as many Ultra combo options, in addition to new mechanics like red focuses. And it's still one of the most balanced fighting games in terms of character vs character matchups ever. Even the most lopsided matchup is at worst a 7-3 advantage. And some lower tier characters actually had favorable matchups against upper tier characters, making playing them in a competitive setting an unconventional yet still viable counterpick strategy.
I didn't agree with a lot of your top 10, but USF4 would be up there for me. Top 5 easy.

Also, this was basically the hype level of the FGC when Vanilla SF4 first came out on consoles.
We were all about this energy.

Love me some SF IV. Bought it for 360 right when it came out, then bought Super and all the updates for PS3. And later bought Super and all the updates for XBox One. This game is just fun regardless of your skill level (and I’m honestly not great at fighting games anymore)

I might do another list in the future, although I've run out of genres. Like, if I did a survival horror list, for example, it would be 99% Resident Evil because I don't play anything else. I was thinking something like ranking my favourite JRPG characters or something like that.
Anyway, it wouldn't be for a while. Making lists is hard, lol.

I initially thought Beat-em-ups might have been the next genre, but it's kind of a dead art form now that was always a little hard to define to begin with. My next thought was racing games, but it sounds like that might not have been a genre that attracted you. In retrospect, Punch-Out! should have been included in your fighting games. I have no idea where else it would get categorized as.

Obviously, I do play games that aren't fighters and RPGs, but not enough to make a decent list out of. I think Punch-Out is considered a sports game, but I'm not sure. I've only played Super Punch-Out, regardless, but I did love it so it would've ranked high. Edit: Actually, I could do a 'hidden gems' list, where I rank the best obscure games I've played. I do have a big collection and I've played some weird stuff. Exposing people to games they might not have heard of was why I originally wanted to do my JRPG list.

Super Punch Out is probably the weakest of the 3 console games, but it’s the one I seem to end up playing the most. Pretty fun to pick that up and hammer through the first 2 circuits in like 10 minutes. Might go play that after I eat….
