He's officially retired from in ring competition and will never wrestle again, apparently. Not that its shocking but still.

I'm glad he is putting his health first and not getting back in the ring. I'm sure it's hard, but you're nothing without your health. His emotions are probably going nuts right now.

It was a quick clip with the full interview to air later on ESPN +. Key takeaways: - Viral pneumonia and a genetic heart condition had him seemingly close to death - He's got a defibrillator in his chest and he's retired from in-ring competition - Steven A. confirmed it wasn't due to COVID - Steven also said he's about 50% of where he was, which I'm assuming HHH says in the full interview
All jokes about NXT driving him crazy aside, HHH legit got choked up talking about the prospects of not being there for his daughters. I hope the dude gets back to a place where he can enjoy life even if he's not as involved with WWE on the day-to-day anymore.

As much as I can’t imagine how he must be feeling about not having “his” conclusion (or having chance after chance like his peers have), I’d frankly rather he be alive for his kids and his wife and living happily in some way, regardless of whether he’s on the board of directors in WWE or whatever, than seeing if he could follow Ric Flair’s own words of dying in the ring. It’s just entirely not worth it.

We need a "Thank you Triple H" thread or something. I'm glad he's putting his health first.

Game talking about going under and not waking up & seeing his daughters again broke me. Glad he's still with us

Wrestling’s rough. Of all the folks I’d expect to be able to hang it up on their own terms, HHH was near the top of the list and even he doesn’t get to control it. Damn.

From a strictlycreative point of view, whilst HHH coming back for a match at Mania was incredibly tired, it is a little sad he won't get that big final match off.
That's also utterly irrelevant in the face of the human cost. I can't imagine going under and be genuinely afraid you won't see your children again. Hope he's in a good place.

Good on him for putting his health first.

Sad to see HHH go out like this but his health comes first. Can’t imagine how it must have felt not knowing if you were going to see your children again or not.
In a crazy coincidence, Wikipedia has HHH’s first match down as March 24th 1992. So almost 30 years to the day, HHH calls time on his career.

I'm just glad he's doing better. Listening in was horrifying talking about how he wasn't sure if he'd wake up to be there for his daughters.

I can see them inducting him into the HOF next year now that his in ring career is definitlvely over.
But being that close to death will change everything and glad he is still with us and more importantly with his family.

I'm sure it's extra tough for him to talk about having surgery and not knowing if he'll wake up in light of losing Scott Hall. They were friends for how long and it was basically a fairly routine operation that ended up killing Scott. I'm sure HHH has a lot of emotions going on.

So his last match was with Orton then? The Saudi loss to him as his last one with a finish and that no contest one in January of 2021. All I gotta say is he was certainly an entertaining part of my adolescent years during Evolution and while it may not have been popular with the internet as a 14 year old kid I liked his 2006 DX run

The part about him worrying that he wasn't going to wake up and see his daughters again was difficult to listen to.
Sucks that he won't get a farewell match but in the grand scheme of things that's secondary and it's a positive story that he survived this. And hey, his last few matches were with Evolution guys Batista and Randy Orton and a live event tag with a few of his favorite NXT guys in Joe/Nakamura/Roode.

I figured Triple H would be done with in-ring action after the health scare, but it sucks that he wasn't able to retire on his own terms.
Not sure what his role in WWE will be now since handling executive duties may be stressful for him at this point. I wish him luck.

Whatever you may think of him as a wrestler/booker/executive etc, hearing Paul Levesque the man talk about being scared he wasn't going to wake up and see his wife and kids again is absolutely gutting.
It sucks knowing that it's over and he didn't get a sendoff he deserved, but I'm so happy that he's alright.
