Another should have been classic was just okay. His best mania match was against Shane. Is it nerves? Bad Chemistry? Or just an unfortunate coincidence?

AJ Styles is pretty far past being great. These days him delivering on the hype is a lot more of a rarity than the opposite.

The match was very good and it told a good story. The crowd just wasn't into it enough.

Couldn't tell you about this match since I didn't watch.
But AJ was past his peak physical abilities when he entered WWE, so that plays a part in anything he does.

He’s so awesome week to week that we expected even more at Mania
But, unless it is the right opponent, it is hard for him to exceed what he typically does. IMO.

That absolutely wasn’t AJs fault. AJ was f***ing on. The story being told in the ring didn’t match whatever the f*** edge is supposed to be until the end. Even then, it wasn’t terrible. Purdy good. Felt sludgy from the mid to the end.

I feel like that's just AJ's Style now. Not underwhelming per say but he works a lot smarter than he used to and you're either in to it or you aren't.

Expectation probably plays a part - people were legit expecting that Nakamura match to be one of the greatest of all time.
I was neither under nor overwhelmed with his match tonight, I was pretty whelmed. It was good.

I didn’t get the hate for the match. It was two old dogs killing each other. It wasn’t ever going to be a fast-paced move fest. Sure, not a WrestleMania Classic but still a good match.

Sure, not a WrestleMania Classic but still a good match. that's the thing. He's never delivered a Mania classic despite being matched against opponents that he could have created one with. That's pretty much my inspiration for the thread. Jericho, Shane, Nakamura, Orton, and now Edge. Last year was a pass and the boneyard match doesn't really count even though it was enjoyable.

"The match was good and told a good story"
I was watching a different match ya'll, shit just felt like moves into other moves, with long breaks in between. If Edge didn't do the spooky dark bullshit, it literally wouldn't have made a single difference into how the match played out with Priest showing up aside, like at f***ing all
Wasn't really impressed, it wasn't a bad match, but it was just... a match.

He’s rapidly approaching his mid 40s and has lost several steps, which is way more noticeable in a guy like him who built his career on high flying and acrobatic stuff.
His opponent was a guy rapidly approaching his 50s, who previously had to retire from wrestling due to injury.
I don’t really know why there seemed to be an expectation that that would be a 5* in ring classic. I thought it was fine for what it was and who was involved. And just really cool for the spectacle of two guys who you never in a million years expected would have crossed paths in their careers getting to wrestle one another.
It just needed to happen like 15 years ago to be what people wanted it to be, in terms of actual ring work.

The match was very good and it told a good story. The crowd just wasn't into it enough. They were Their was multiple let’s go AJ, let’s go Edge chants in the arena Eh. It was kinda quiet for multiple stretches of that match(not even talking about rest holds) compare that match to the heat the Theory/Pat match or the Cody/Seth match. It just wasn't the same.
