He’s the new Jericho.
Jericho usually had fine matches at Wrestlemania but they never quite lived up to expectations people had going in (Angle/Benoit 2000, HHH 2002, Edge 2010, Punk 2012, Styles 2016, Owens 2017). Arguably his only truly great match was with HBK in 2003.

I see what you did there? Honestly I think if Cena vs. AJ had ever been a Mania match during their feud that could have stolen the show Wrestlemania 33 would have been improved tenfold if they just waited to do Cena/AJ there instead of at the Rumble.

Because not a single human being believed the match was gonna end because neither guy got their shit in, so they falses finishes don't mean f*** all.

This is a very ironic thread given we had that "Is AJ Styles the NEW Mr. WrestleMania??" thread just a few weeks ago, lmfao

Meanwhile, Miz has been involved in some really fun WM matches lately.

Well part of the problem with this and like Nakamura was the match wasn't there to have a match... itw as there to setup another storyline...
which is a dumb as hell thing to do for a Mania matchup.
The entire thing with Edge changing his character to mr. elder vampireman... like didn't factor into the match at all...
it was just ... Edge vs. AJ the same way it would have been if when AJ came down to challenge Edge... Edge just nodded his head nad said ok I'll see you there... and that was it...

"The match was good and told a good story" I was watching a different match ya'll, shit just felt like moves into other moves, with long breaks in between. If Edge didn't do the spooky dark bullshit, it literally wouldn't have made a single difference into how the match played out with Priest showing up aside, like at f***ing all Wasn't really impressed, it wasn't a bad match, but it was just... a match. What was you impressed with this weekend? Having lurked for years before joining, I'm not even sure why this dude watches WWE?

What was you impressed with this weekend? Zayn/Knoxville, The Woman's Four Way overdelivered, The banger Three Way Tag to open the show, Pat vs Theory (Before the Vince stuff), and I didn't HATE Edge/Styles, I literally just didn't see it as more than like... a match, it just felt like a match, which was counterintuitive to the build and Edge's new character, for me, personally Me not feeling it being a classic or Brock/Roman isn't some indication I hated the night, I gave it a 7 in the Poll even

It took Shawn till... 21 to have a great match. The ladder match is overrated as all hell. He went out of his way to make Nash look bad, the Iron Man is boring as f***. The match with Austin is ok , but the moment of Austin winning is what people remember. The match they had at KOTR 97 is easily better. I refuse to acknowledge 20. f*** Benoit. The match with Jericho feels like the entire story is, Jericho sucks, look how easy HBK kicks out of or reverses his moves! The match with Angle is great tho.

Guys have been stealing from Taker and HBK at Mania 25/26 for years without the understanding of why fans reacted the way they did. That match reeked of them saying beforehand, "It's gonna be a classic Mania match...so here's what we're gonna steal from them..." without the build to actually deserve the reaction.
I know exactly what they were attempting to do, but they had the match before they had the reaction.

AJ Styles has had a number of good to great matches during his WWE run, but outside of some that he had with John Cena during his first year in the company I don’t think he’s had any spectacular matches.
I sincerely believe by the time he joined the WWE his days of having “match of the year” canidates was behind him, but adhering to the the WWE style he was able to have a good match with anyone, and on the occasion those good matches turned into great matches.
However, I do think his match against Edge put to rest the misconception of him being the NEW “Mr. Wrestlemania” because he’s honestly never had a match that stole the show on the biggest stage.
And as fondly as people remember his match with Shane McMahon, it’s merely a great Shane McMahon match (which he has very few of), but only an average AJ Styles match.

I had 2 problems with the match.
1) I couldn't get into the story in the first place. Edge's heel turn and gimmick change came the F out of nowhere and made no sense. It's like he came up with this gimmick and immediately went to it with little setup.
2) I knew the match was going at least 20 minutes so I had little incentive to watch the beginning. I really didn't pay attention until Priest showed up.

I seem to recall because of his determination and exceptional abilities, he did grow it all back, plus much, much more.

I thought it was pretty damn good. To each their own totally but they both brought it.

I think people want something from AJ that he literally cannot do anymore as he's an older guy and I think people judge his matches more harshly for that.

It was a solid match but I thought people had their expectations way too high. Edge has been pretty alright so far during this run. Rollins had great matches with him but Seth is on a different level than almost anyone else right now. He's just going to have solid 3 star matches and AJ would be no different. It wasn't a styles clash per se (hehehe) but they definitely weren't going to gel so well together to get something resembling a MOTY candidate.
