Tony Khan is basically what Dixie Carter could've been if she was competent. Like, even in spite of her absolutely baffling, stupid decisions on the business end of things, TNA often had a solid in-ring product. Then it just became too much for it to overcome because the awful business decisions started directly affecting the booking and the talent sticking around. The parallels between Dixie and TK are staggering, but so are the differences in how they've moved from that base origin. There's still a lot of room for Tony to start making Dixie level mistakes, this really feels like a weird view into a world where TNA succeeded to monetize its audience and grow

The rumoured day for this AEW/NJPW show just doesn't make sense, the 23rd of June is a Thursday. If you're holding a big show like this, it has to be at the weekend. Could've been a typo and they meant July 23rd. That's a Saturday.

Admittedly I do kind of have a hard time wrapping my head around what would actually be particularly major about hosting a show with NJPW. "We're putting on a card that'll probably be very good but essentially non-canon, if it's even televised in some way which there's no real guarantee of, with a company we already work with and most of our stars have history of being associated with that's largely not really got a lot of hype around it these days anyway," like, woo?

What would be Non-Canon about it if it happened? They largely recognize each other, and their storylines They were referencing Roppongi and Factory's confrontation on STRONG even.

I mean more that I find it extremely doubtful that either company would really put anything of consequence on it. Probably good matches but doubt you'd see much in the way of big title matches or story advancement or anything, nothing with any sort of lasting impact.

Punk & Danielson facing some major NJPW names, even without titles, would be notable as all hell. And if it takes place after DON, who even knows about titles. Kenny could come back, bc nonsense, etc. could be awesome.

Or it might be a Inner Elite Fight. But I honestly expect more than just Kenny vs Adam Cole

Danielson vs. Okada as a main event could have an undercard of fart jokes and Dolph Ziggler cosplayers and it'd be a day one sellout.

Bit of a typo: it's actually supposed to be a HUGS ANNOUNCEMENT, as everyone in the audience gets one free Little Hug Fruit Barrel! All those years and I'm just NOW finding out what the hell those things were called!!!

I think the harder part of these inter-promotional shows is who loses and what matches we can do

My best guesses would be (in order from what I want most):
1. ROH TV deal (it could very well be that he was already shopping it around, but didn't want to say anything until after Supercard of Honor and the final Sinclair episode aired)
2. Streaming service in the US (I saw HBO MAX as a possibility, and I'd be all for it)
3. Supershow with NJPW (would be really cool, just the least enticing for me because I'm not a huge New Japan fan and it may not be possible for me to even see it, unless it's on B/R or TV)

See, I think at least that announcement would make sense as something to do in the ring as it relates to wrestling and future matches. Popping the crowd with news that they've signed a deal to go on HBO Max however, seems totally bizarre to me. Unless you're a shareholder in AEW I can't see why you'd care all that much.

Or even just being able to conveniently access their backlog in one place.
