I find it funny that of all things he went off about the Rosa segment, which I thought was a really great, and funny segment, where Rosa got one up on Nyla, and Nyla got some really good lines in.
I also don't think getting hit by a cake inherently makes you blind and defenseless for very long, it's not like getting something shot in your eyes like mist or even water, if she shut her eyes in time, realistically, her powering through for the brawl isn't really out of the question, it's wasn't NXT bad to me, nor was it Toni Storm getting pied in the face, the heels were being condescending dicks, the face wasn't having it, they had a fight where the woman twice Rosa's size shoved her into a carrying case, and then Rosa ended up winning the match decisively, so really the babyface triumphed, whereas in WWE, they usually don't.
The thing about Danhausen however, was perfectly reasonable, and I don't really understand how anyone could be mad at the suggestion he could use a promo to help explain himself more, because that just means Danhausen gets more airtime as a whole, and that's a good thing.
AEW White Knights exist, and they can be as annoying as any WWE White Knight as well, both take extremes and both are generally in bad faith and do nothing to actually help their cause, but as others have said, there are a lot of genuine AEW Trolls who mask criticism as bad faith, we've seen it a lot even here, and it can make AEW fans a bit defensive as a whole when they constantly have to see baity comments or stuff almost designed to start a fight. We generally just need less of it in the wrestling world as a whole, but Alvarez must not have shaken that hornet's nest until recently, if he's only now having a problem with AEW Diehards. Because frankly, he's been way more critical of AEW stuff before this point.

The tribalism shit of it gets really old, I like AEW as a whole better but both sides have fans that just get on my nerves. Maybe I'm not a typical fan but anyone that's interested in Danhausen can figure out who he is within 10 minutes on youtube, I think sometimes it's forgotten how easy stuff like that is to use. Yeah it's sad. These wrestlers themselves have best friends in the other company, no need for tribalism. Nobody's working for Vince or Tony last I checked. I just press that "ignore" and I'm good these days. I found out who Danhausen after he blew up that one month last year. I don't know what caused him to blow up, I don't know why but there was that one month where you couldn't escape him and I was just curious and looked his stuff up through Youtube. He just sort of came out of nowhere to me and all of a sudden he was on everything. I agree with this as well, like I don't mind if Danhausen gets a vignette, I don't mind if Danhausen gets explained more, but I don't really think AEW's done a terrible job presenting Danhausen as a whole, and a lot of people seem to have gotten who he is. Like I get the notion and the critique that "AEW NEEDS TO EXPLAIN PEOPLE BETTER WHO COME IN" when it comes to a Jay White or a Danhausen, but it's not like they treat them like strangers, they constantly talk them up on commentary, or they mention what they've done especially in White's case. Googling and Youtube are inherently not a bad thing to use, but a lot of people feel like they shouldn't "HAVE" to do that to figure out who someone is. Like... ok? But it's not like they're asking very much, and if you do, usually, you are rewarded with good shit, and in Danhausen's case, there is a mountain of gold online that he himself is constantly adding to, so not doing so I feel is a detriment to the experience as a whole. Anyway to the point of "Tribalism"? Yeah, that shit is stupid, I just wanna enjoy wrestling, and I wanna see good wrestling succeed, and the cheering whether people actually believe it or not and wanting another company to just die, is and always has looked disgusting and cringe by the individuals who peddle it, as does mocking individuals for liking a product over the other, if they so choose to.

Especially in this age of plethora of content. I marginally looked him up when he blew up..”funny stuff”. But his AEW run, in a vacuum, has certainly been a thing that’s happened. He cursed some dudes..and last I saw of him was that Hook segment and that wasn’t great. I agree with Bryan about it. And if he’s injured (is he still?? I dunno) that’s still not an excuse. Then the issue potentially springs into “..why are all these people being signed then if they’re not being optimally utilized..” but that’s a whole other ass issue. Oh and B-Rye ain’t above this shit either. Go back and see his tribalistic reaction when people criticized the ending of the B&G match.

It's very annoying radio. I hope Bryan doesn't make this a habit. I want to hear his thoughts on AEW, including the criticism. But I don't need to hear him argue with a bunch of people I never see post or tweet, especially when a lot of them are trolls and don't deserve to be taken seriously.

I don't think he's cleared to wrestle, I also think something AEW is guilty of is expecting most of their fan base to know who everyone is. They're obviously a much more "smark" friendly company and I think they are guilty of thinking their fanbase is the fan base that knows who indy wrestlers, NJPW guys etc are.

I've greatly diminished how much I even bother to pay attention to most stuff going on with AEW these days just because I tend to find both extreme sides of the arguments f***ing exhausting. I know the bulk of people who do or do not like AEW are perfectly reasonable, but like during that whole bot fiasco I pretty much just completely ignored it because I had zero interest in getting in the mud with the extremists.
On the Danhausen subject though... Yeah, your television show shouldn't expect viewers to conduct independent research to have the slightest idea what is going on. It's part of why I think every wrestling company should exist more or less in its own continuity and intercompany stuff should be extremely rare.

They don't need to conduct a damn thesis, nor is AEW saying they NEED to search him out to get him imo, however, they just need to google Danhausen and find his Youtube channel, that's it... it's one thing if the person has like this wide intricate lore where you need to watch a ton of shit to understand it, you really don't need to see much to get Danhausen or understand him as a whole. He's a demon that's come to earth to try and get famous, make money, take over the world, and curse whoever gets in his way. And I don't think this should be a knock on intercompany ideas and crossover, I honestly HATE when wrestlers show up to another company and people either act like they don't know who they are or act dumb about what they've accomplished. It's been a breath of fresh air to see guys show up and be touted for their accomplishments all over the world and now they've arrived in AEW to try and do the same.

They're obviously a much more "smark" friendly company and I think they are guilty of thinking their fanbase is the fan base that knows who indy wrestlers, NJPW guys etc are. He's not cleared no, but he's getting closer, people don't really realize how serious his injury was, his leg bone literally snapped clean in two. I think he's shown promising progression though and might be back in the ring very soon. I also think it's fair to think some casual viewers need more into on who someone is and the want to provide it, but it's also unfair imo to think that casuals are so uptight or arrogant that they either can't enjoy the person and get into them anyway, or google them to find out more. Like this is something that can go both ways I think. AEW can give more and it's not a bad thing to WANT more, but what they give hasn't seemed to be a detriment to these wrestlers as a whole. Like just off Danhausen alone, how many different cities has he shown up in by now with thousands upon thousands of individuals? Like yes, plenty of them are hardcore wrestling fans, but there are plenty of casuals in those crowds too that are seeing what AEW is about... and Danhausen keeps getting some of the pops of the night whenever he shows up. He's clearly doing something right, and AEW is not detracting from his aura. He or any of these crossover superstars haven't tanked a rating as far as I've ever seen. If fans were turning off in droves because of this, I think it'd be much more of an issue, but in some cases, the viewers and demos rise when these people show up. I feel like the only people I see asking for more explanation about Danhausen, are people who already know everything about him, and are worried on casuals BEHALF that they might not know who he is and they need him explained better, which I think is a whole other issue in itself tbh. Again, nothing wrong with inherently wanting more lore or more explanation for a character that might need it, but I do think the notion that casuals and or fans NEED this, because they simply cannot enjoy or understand Danhausen or someone else without it, is a little bit of projection.

I gotta say they haven't done a great job at it. They need to do better. Like, a week after dude showed up I would have liked at least a promo video explaining who he is and what he's about. Maybe I missed it but yeah, they need that. That's one thing WWE does well because usually they explain who somebody is the day of or a week later in a promo that may or not be considered "bad." At least I'll get who they are. They just gotta do better with it. At least a 1 minute video thrown in a random Dynamite that explains em a lil bit would be cool. Yeah it's sad. These wrestlers themselves have best friends in the other company, no need for tribalism. Nobody's working for Vince or Tony last I checked. I just press that "ignore" and I'm good these days. Oh and B-Rye ain’t above this shit either. Go back and see his tribalistic reaction when people criticized the ending of the B&G match. Yeah I think viewers shouldn't have to know everything that goes on with a wrestler outside of what's viewed on screen. Sure, you can have an official Youtube or Twitter post that breaks down characters further but at least the basis should be "alright, this is who this is." Me, I looked it up because I'm just curious like that but even after all of that it's still sorta seen as something that should be told on screen.
It's sorta like a "Boys Club" type feel. Most of AEW feels like that and by that I mean a lot stuff like with Danhausen and other wrestlers, other angles, there's just stuff that feels like if you're not knowledgeable or in on something you're just assed out. It's like when you're a kid and you go to school and you've got your Power Rangers toys and are talking about it and someone's like "nah that's cool and all but this VR Troopers tho, this Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad is where it's at!!"

I don't think AEW expects fans to know all characters already ,I just think they don't think it's important and that. You just watch the character and learn as it goes.
if that's a good thing that's another story.
there is cases and cases. Most Japanese legend in a one of should definitely get a package ,if anything because it's freaking awesome.
but Suzuki also doesn't need a complex intro since you pretty much get it by watching him and Archer.

I thought his segment with HOOK was fantastic, personally, his segments with HOOK are literally all what Danhausen has always been about, playing the goofy foil to a straight man is his bread and butter. That is him being used to his potential while he is hurt (And yes he still is, Mance Warner JUST came back and he had a very similar injury to Danhausen). Usually when enough people shout about something we do see AEW start to integrate it and change it around, and one of those things was Danhausen needing more direction, and the interactions with HOOK are getting him more screentime, more cadence, and more presence on shows, and given HOOK is in action this Wednesday I expect this to continue

It's a case by case basis, I feel. It depends on how much they appear, or will appear, but a lot of guys can just sell you on themselves, but even then, I can't stress enough how hard they do try and get over to the TV viewer what these people coming in have done, and continue to do outside of AEW. Even on commentary in a segment with Danhausen, William Regal asked who he was, and Excalibur says Danhausen was essentially, an otherworldly demon who had found himself connected to the Best Friends, and William Regal basically went "Oh... ok!", because in wrestling sometimes that's all you need.

He’s about right on Danhausen, I mean for the casual viewer who only watches AEW and WWE he’s probably just some weird dude in face paint. However he is clearly over with the live crowds, so I’m not totally sure it’s completely valid - plus he is featured fairly prominently on social media. My guess is once he starts to be an active wrestler, then we will see some more promos etc.
The cake thing wasn’t terrible.
Wrestling fans on social media are either bots or insanely partisan oddballs who post the most ridiculous takes. Best ignored. At least on forums like this it’s moderated into some sort of intelligent reasoned discussion.
Anyway it’s always pretty funny listening to Alvarez rant about stuff.

That ain’t throwing shade, it’s straight up calling them out lol. He also had some comments on the YouTube shows that I found interesting considering the big debate on them here recently. Considering how a lot of the threads on here wind up it’s hard not to disagree with his general point.
Dude’s rants are always entertaining in a funny way though, even if you don’t agree with them.

I don’t agree on the cake thing, I thought that was just standard pro wrestling stuff
Agreed on the explaining thing though. Since it’s the example we’re most using on the thread Danhausen. I watch AEW with my daughter. Between my work, her school, other parts of day to day life, finding the time to look up videos from other companies isn’t really a high priority. If AEW want wrestlers to be a part of their show then they need to detail the character a bit
A sit down interview, a video package or something just to do some broad strokes with
I love watching AEW for the record but it’s one of their biggest flaws for me
As for fans being thin-skinned, I do agree that is probably true but at same time I think it’s partly because it seems like everything little thing AEW does gets picked apart and criticised. My friend still watches WWE every week whereas I bounced out absolute ages ago because of so many reasons (Primarily it’s morally and creatively bankrupts in my opinion) but he enjoys it as so many others so that’s cool and I don’t mention WWE to him.
But I genuinely feel that he only watches AEW to s*** on it because he’s never said one good word about it and only ever talks about when he thinks it’s f***** up
To the point that even when I kinda agreed with him that I would play devils advocate and try to see it from the other POV and it made me feel like I was constantly defending them and coming across as an AEW can do no wrong guy when they absolutely can lol. Now I just ignore him whenever he talks about them

I’ll admit to be defensive sometimes. I love AEW since it has given me passion for wrestling again. So I do tend to defend more often than I would have.
I do understand that it is a flaw of mine and it is okay to not like something AEW produces. It’s still 90 percent great stuff, with the 10 percent sticking out like a sore thumb.
I’d imagine, at least in my case, that the reason some fans are defensive is that AEW has been the absolute best American pro wrestling alternative in a very long time. And maybe in way, fans can be scared to death of flaws, or just ignoring them, because they may think the flaws would really hurt AEW. Which maybe a silly thought because WWE has flaws by the millions and it’s still number one and TNA/Impact has been trucking along for 20 years.
But I am learning that it is okay to criticize. Even if I love 90 percent of the product.

Even if I love 90 percent of the product. I honestly don't even think it's a bad thing to be defensive, but it's also just something that even I've had to realize that letting shit go or letting some people be mad is just something that has to be done, because you just come off like the asshole even if you're just trying to have discussion or understand where someone's coming from, a lot of the time it just turns out terribly, and you become the problem. AEW has done a lot of shit right, but they aren't perfect, and I think the issue is, a lot of people think people having complaints are going to kill AEW or something. I think it really needs to be said, WWE ruling the wrestling world unopposed for almost 20 full years, and TNA fumbling their own bag off a f***ing cliff, has given wrestling fans a ton of PTSD, and a ton of borderline trauma, when it comes to AEW existing. They want to protect it because they've been waiting for so long for something different and something to be this successful outside of WWE, they don't want to see the flaws and just want to see the potential, and on the flipside, WWE diehards see AEW as the first legit threat to a 20 year monopoly where they've been damn near conditioned that WWE is the end all be all and nothing else matters, and suddenly... something else matters, and WWE's not the top on the block anymore because there's no longer an immediate "default", so they laugh at AEW whenever they stumble, and their fans, and they want it to die, as they see no other way for their status quo they've been spoonfed to return to normal, instead of just enjoying wrestling as a whole. Shit can such, it can be tedious, and there's no reasoning with either side, really... you just gotta enjoy what you want, pick your battles, and don't be a dick, especially if someone's trying to bait you into being one so they and their stances can look better by telling you off, that's a trap I've seen way too much in this fandom, and other fandoms beyond it.

I really like AEW, but he is not wrong here. It’s funny he brought up Cora Jade as an example to compare to the Rosa thing because in fact there was a similar thing that NXT did with her awhile back that I did not like. Toni storm got caked in the face and she was “ruined”
