I love the in-ring presentation. Sign me up for the music and the lights out entrances as it makes Malakai/the House of Black look like the coolest dudes on the roster.
I'm not a fan of these pretaped vignettes though. They're nowhere near as poignant and deep as Black thinks they are.

Yeah, this gimmick is straight trash. It's the exact same shit WWE does, except he's not sitting in a room this time. Like I've said before, he's just AEW's Bray Wyatt at this point. Until Malakai wrestles someone and maggot projections appear on the ring mat, he's not Bray Wyatt There have been other cryptic characters in wrestlings past, some much more extra than Bray Wyatt or even Malakai Black. The dude is cutting harmless short promos with his group, and going out there and having bangers each time... don't think it needs to be anything more than that right now.

Codys ego pretty much damaged Malakais aura Cody's lack of ego was why Malakai had an aura to damage.

I'm a big fan, but wish Tony would tell him to scale it back on the vague edgelord promos. I just want silent Black that kicks off heads. This is why I'm glad they didn't sign Bray Wyatt. But maybe we’ll get silent Hawaiian shirt wearing badass Wyatt instead then? It’s a trade off.

Julia Hart's working her heart out to make it something, but the Pillman feud hurt Malakai Black many times more than Cody pinning him ever could. It took him how long to get through a feud with a lower card tag team? And Hart's been selling the eye for what feels like a calendar year with no real payoff other than "makes her a useless valet who doesn't give a shit about the team, but mean in the ring." That's... something, I guess.
And now he's obsessed with Fuego, presumably because Fenix got hurt, but I don't exactly get the "why" unless the idea is that he'll corrupt Fuego to get to Sammy or something for his TNT title. That'd be fine as a payoff, but if I was asked to list five guys I'd want with the TNT title, he'd only just make the list.

It’s hit or miss for me. Like, I think it was last weeks Rampage or Dynamite when it was just him…I f***ed with it. He was direct and sounded authentic. But last nights, with his homeys, and just the talking in edgelord nothingness?..I could do without. As a whole, he hasn’t been the same to me since Cody won their angle. Black should have defiantly won that. There’s no hook (not the zoomer) to the stable. It’s not Edge’s bizarre purple grimace enthusiasts, but there’s nothing compelling about them, character and relationship wise. Codys ego pretty much damaged Malakais aura, in a way it reminded me when Cena beat Bray at Mania and he wasnt the same as well(took Bray reinvent himself...before creative let him down again and again). Fenix getting injured also didnt help matters, HoB got some momentum at Revolution but since then for some reason they were booked to feud with Fuego until Fenix returns to resume the feud with the Death Triangle.
I mean, I get that conventional logic would dictate the big hero face (Cody at the time) win at the end. But I thought then, and it’s especially true in hindsight that Black should have won. Black felt so, so special at the time. However.. Codys ego pretty much damaged Malakais aura Cody's lack of ego was why Malakai had an aura to damage. That too, can’t be denied. Cody was in large part why homey felt so grand at the time.

...Wait, that promo yesterday was about Fuego Del Sol??? Yes, they've been feuding on Rampage, essentially, Fuego keeps getting knocked down by them, but he refuses to stay down, and Malakai's gotten very sick of it.

I have to say, my biggest problem with these three guys is that they aren't on TV enough despite being a fun new stable that's pretty fresh.
I am absolutely baffled by the incredibly negative responses to this gimmick. Especially in the context of pro wrestling. Like, obviously everyone has differing opinions, I am surprised at how many people dislike it, the reasons they dislike it, and how early in their run people seem to be totally done with it

Black Mist was literally derived from them as a deadly blinding mist... Maybe some people are just over spooky type gimmicks in wrestling? But yeah... this has ALWAYS been a thing in wrestling, hell Edge is doing it right now, Bliss when she's around is still doing it, and as I said, so is Joe Gacy... it's ALWAYS in wrestling.

I think it’s more the rambling promos that try to sound profound but ultimately don’t mean much. That and the spooky cult leader type deal. Bray at least did have better, more captivating delivery of his material. And I’m a huge Black fan. I think he could’ve been good enough as a badass face character in WWE that he could’ve toppled Roman.

That annoys me for a number of reasons, but most of all 1), you don't owe it to a story to be patient with it if you're not enjoying where it's going, 2, an eventual good payoff (which, based on a lot of AEW's other stories that have dragged on and on, I don't count on there being) doesn't justify the ride being ass, and 3), it's not longterm storytelling when you're just doing the same thing every week. I feel like at some point people got confused into thinking longterm storytelling is good storytelling, even if it's spinning its wheels for months on end.

I like Black and I dig the whole House of Black thing, but his word salad promos are making it hard to completely buy into what he/they are doing

I like Black and his boys, I love the presentation, I think I'm just done with "dark stables". I can't think of a single company that has done a good job of it in a long while and AEW has tried a handful in its short existence.

I'm a huge Black fan and I think he's a really good talker (especially for someone whose first language isn't English), but I don't really care about the content of House of Black's promos. I guess I'm just burned out on these kinds of stables as well.
I also agree that he's better as a face.

You want boring Black? First one i see saying this... Black coming into NXT and nailing everyone in the face with Black Mass that one time wasn't boring, IMO. Dude's got a lot of physical charisma and he's obviously fantastic in the ring, he could just coast on those things without talking a lot.
