Even though it's been however many years since the first one, the Navi are *still* somehow managing to land in that weird uncanny valley zone next to "comic artists that have never drawn anthro characters being asked to draw anthro characters". Is anybody actually nostalgic for the original? I swear the only Navi people are nostalgic for are the ones that used to follow you around and go HEY! LISTEN! all the time. I've always had that issue with Avatar... the landscapes were gorgeous... but literally anything that was supposed to look alive were stiff and artificial... which I mean if the point was the Avatars were like that it'd make sense... but it was EVERYTHING. I’m still trying to figure out how the original is the highest grossing movie of all time, and then I remember it was re-released three times. the last time specifically because Cameron threw a tantrum that End Game beat it.

Makes it even more petty that Cameron did that because it doesn’t take a genius to figure out Avatar would get a theatrical re-release in the lead up to the sequel. He couldn’t wait the extra 12-18 months to reclaim the crown

I'm not expecting this film to blow me away or anything, but there are at least some directions you can take the adopted daughter route, particularly if she's curious about Jake's background.

The first movie's getting another re-release in September. No, I remember how the military came to the planet, the aliens fought them, the aliens couldn't do anything, then later, the aliens actually were doing things.

The first movie's getting another re-release in September. Cameron sounds like a reasonable guy who isn’t at all defensive about his films being overhyped.

I feel like if I saw Avatar again, and I think it's been at least 5 years since I saw it last, but if I did decide to watch Avatar again, I'd probably come away again thinking "Why in the f*** does this need a sequel".
Like, literally every plot point was wrapped up. The humans left at the end and the aliens had an orgy or whatever happened. Why should anyone ever want more Avatar?

Cameron also went and said "You people binge watching marathons without taking a piss break!" Except, at home, people can pause and go to the bathroom and get snacks. At movie theaters, the film doesn't pause for anyone. So he's a man who is absolutely level-headed.

Also my bathroom is close enough to the living room that I can still hear what's going on... and it takes me ... like 3 seconds to get there... instead of having to get out of the Row... go out of the theater... likely go down a hallway... and back. He mentions "Well just go to the bathroom" also honestly sounds to me that he knows his film is bloated and overly long... and there are scenes he knows should have been cut but didn't. Most movies do not need to be longer than 2 hours...

Cameron sounds like a reasonable guy who isn’t at all defensive about his films being overhyped. I mean, this is James Cameron we're talking about. Two things he's well known for is having a massive ego (and, given his success, it's not unwarranted) and said ego being spectacularly fragile. Like, literally every plot point was wrapped up. The humans left at the end and the aliens had an orgy or whatever happened. Why should anyone ever want more Avatar? Something something... evil corporation back for round two... something something... capitalism bad... something something... dead bad guy's memories implanted into blue cat person body... something something... hey, water! *sploosh*

The first movie took me like two days to get through and even then I fastforwarded through like 20 minutes of the climactic fight scene. I'm absolutely never seeing that movie again.

I'm still floored there's a whole area of Disney World themed after this movie.

I'm still floored there's a whole area of Disney World themed after this movie. Jenny Nicholson's video about it is pretty great. Seems like it is (or was, dunno if it's changed since then) decent, but that the cracks really do show in terms of things to do, though given it's part of the Animal Kingdom part of the park, that's always been one of the problems and why it got put there to begin with, to try to make it not just a zoo.

You know how people go "oh, you can't remember one character from the movie". I remember Stephen Lang's guy. Also, why the heck did they make him a Navi? I know they killed him at the end of the first movie when he remained resolute in the human cause, so I guess this is to set up the "Hey, we got bad guy Navis now!"

The whole idea of evil Na'vi being a new thing seems headtilting to me because the Na'vi were a bunch of assholes to begin with.

I wish they would have followed through on the original plan with the "Beastly Kingdom" part of Animal Kingdom featuring mythical creatures. That's why there's a dragon in the logo (I assume that it is mentioned in her video)

"Incredible characters." It's impossible not to read that in a Mike Meyers voice.
