I'm still amazed that cameron manages to make two films now that makes so much money yet have zero imprint on the cultural zeitgeist. I don't have seen anyone quote either of the the Avatar films. The advancement of special fx seem to be it's only lasting legacy. This movie was released less than six months ago, made two billion at the box office, and you'd never know. The original has the same issue.

The original has the same issue. Granted, there are far worse fates for movies than "made ALL the money and disappeared into the ether", because James Cameron and Disney are laughing all the way to the bank. It's still a fascinating situation, though, as movies that made a fraction of what either Avatar movie made individually persist in pop culture decades after release, while the legacy of Avatar movies seems fated to be "Isn't it weird nobody talks about these movies?" Like, people talk about the lack of people talking about them, but talking about the actual content of the movies? Barely a peep.

There's people who stan REAL hard for Cameron on Reddit, and even they don't seem to be arguing that it's a great movie, just that it's box office makes it superior. That kinda stuff makes me want it to bomb really bad, but I guess no such luck. I didn't see it, anyway.

I haven't seen it either. I just never felt the need. I'm waiting for the first to come out in 4K and will probably buy them both digitally.
