I'm still floored there's a whole area of Disney World themed after this movie. Should replace it with an "Aliens" world.

I'm still floored there's a whole area of Disney World themed after this movie. Should replace it with an "Aliens" world. The former 90s Magic Kingdom attraction "ExtraTERRORestrial: Alien Encounter" was originally going to be based on Alien, but the rights fell through. They held onto the concept of a corrupt huge corporation putting people in danger due to a wild alien, at least.

I'm sure the 5 people who want to see Avatar in theaters are going to be excited by this news. I genuinely forget Avatar 2 is coming out this year until I see the thread bumped here with news about it. Think there's like, anyone excited for this movie?

I was honestly kind of surprised that space Pocahontas was actually getting a sequel. I remember them talking about it years ago but then kinda forgot about it. The thing is, back then the big selling point was that it looked amazing. The plot was weak, retread stories we had seen a million times before and literally had the word unobtainium. I get it made a ton of money but I never felt like it needed a sequel. In this case it feels like striking while the iron is frozen. Then again for all I know this movie will kill it at the box office. I just have zero interest, I might check it out if it comes up on a streaming service at some point.

I find it amazing that after this there are three sequels to be released, respectively, on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.
With a budget of 250 million, taking into account all the advertising that will be coming, there is absolutely no way this thing will turn a profit.

I bet they spent a whole five minutes on it, too.

From the thumbnail alone I can see they still haven't quite gotten over the Uncanny Valley issue with the Na'vi.

The rest of Hollywood has pretty much caught up on the cgi Avatar did, so it won't have that advantage anymore. And 3D has pretty much lost it's novelty since then. The underwater motion capture is ok, but nothing that looks groundbreaking. I just don't see this being perceived as taking things to the next level.

So that means it has to do better than The Force Awakens ($2.068 billion) or Titanic ($2.187 billion) to break even.
I'm sorry, what?

I'm sure not going to be against James Cameron on the financial side of things given his track record.
I won't be surprised if this underperforms either, if only because "underperforms" in this context could still be a huge box office.

I watched the trailer and it only reinforced that everything about the first movie that made it stand out was the incredible CGI and 3D. And nothing else.

I'll be very interested in seeing how it does. It's a movie that absolutely will need to be experienced in the theater to get everything you want out of the film (like the first one). I remember watching the first one at home after being thrilled with it in the theater and I was like, "Uhh.. I remember this being better than this!".

All Reddit is conditioning me to believe is that it'll be the most successful, wonderful movie ever.
Which is to say I'll probably see it when it hits a streaming service and think it was pretty average. Others can fight trying to see this nonsense over the holidays.
3+ hours including previews in a theatre with no intermission. Yeah, I bet this f***ing movie is that good.

Sequel nobody wanted to a movie that came out 12 years ago that most people forgot about probably isn't where I'd want to risk disastrous financial losses if it doesn't break even, but you do you.
