Anyone who's thinking it won't impact his marketability to the WWE, just keep in mind that Vince, by those who love him and hate him, is an absolute stickler for making your dates. Vince is also a terrible human being, but say what you will otherwise, you honor your dates before you come to work for him. On top of that, the WWE does not NEED MJF. The WWE does not NEED anyone. For better or worse, the WWE has made sure that no one talent can make or break them ever again by making the brand the star of the show. I think it makes for pretty putrid TV, but they're doing fine financially, let's not pretend otherwise. They will not roll out the red carpet, bend over backwards, or kiss his ass. They do not have to. One thing that I have heard is that MJF has bad anxiety, and I wonder if that hasn't caught up to him. I forgot about his anxiety issues. If it involves that it paints him in a more sympathetic light. Yes, but I really hope he talks to someone in the company and doesn't skip out of town because that's still not gonna look great. He needs to talk to the company, they can at the very least try and circumvent it, but this is why I said I hoped he was mentally ok, because it seemed so out of pocket, it didn't seem rational.

Was hoping Joe's was a miscommunication. Would hate to see him tank his career for no apparent reason.
So that leaves MJF...

Good to hear the Joe thing is miscommunication and not a real out of character bout of unprofessionalism.

Yep to the both of these posts.
This whole thing's weird. Do we even know when his contract's expiring? It it soon or what?
Word is 18 months to two years from now, came up earlier in the thread. 18 months It's why he's been trying to get 2024 over. His contract is apparently up in 2024. But AEW was supposedly open to extending it and giving him top talent pay. Obviously not confirmed but it just makes things even weirder. Anything from 18 months to 2 years Wow. That's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy later than I thought it would be. I've never heard of a contract situation like this in wrestling this far out. Like, within 4 months I get but that long? Wow.

Communication issue makes sense, seems really out of character for Joe. Just a weird coincidence it's tied up in MJF nuking his career. How I'm now envisioning this. Joe: Am I needed? Convention Organizers: No. Joe: Okay. *Later, as the sheets are reporting on this* Joe: Wait, the f*** did I do wrong? Convention Guy: "Wait, that's the Samoa Joe that was supposed to be here? Oh man, I better apologize to Roman Reigns."

I can't speak on his condition, but as someone who is on medication for anxiety, you can work yourself into a really nihilistic tizzy when you're under stress. Just throwing a scenario that'd be running through MY head: This is the first high-profile match where I'm not with a longtime vet and where I have to absolutely make this guy. Punk and Mox were made men already. I have to do this. I have to excel. I have to put on the absolute best performance of my life and bump like a pinball, etc.

Also consider this match is for Wardlows AEW contract...
So what are they gonna go? Just count to 10, Tony come out gives Wardlow his contract while the crowd chants f*** MJF?

It also could've been quietly extended from an initial deal as some talents like the Bucks and Omega already did that.

I figured Joe's situation was different. Man lived through the highs and absolute lows of TNA. Also got shook around WWE for a bit before his release. Man is almost loyal to a fault.

And there was all the shows about moonshine drinking Bigfoot hunters.

I think MJF needs AEW more than AEW needs MJF. Purely as a performer, I'd disagree. You can teach athleticism, you can't teach charisma. There aren't going to be big bidding wars with WWE for Jungle Boy or Darby when their contracts are expiring. There's a reason MJF's been talked about as a huge catch for either of the major promotions from day one, more than any of the other homegrown talents. The only other guy they've got who feels like he could step up into that same spot right now is Ricky Starks, and even he's a stretch. All that goes out the window if promoters think they can't trust MJF, though.

I'm still convinced it's a work, just because that's my default with this guy, but holy hell do you make a convincing argument. There are so many times when looking at shit in wrestling that you can think "Is this a work?" and go "It can't possibly be a work because it just makes everybody involved look like an idiot and discourages you from spending money on the promotion ever again" and then you remember that that doesn't actually mean anything because wrestling is totally filled with people genuinely stupid enough to do all that for the buzz of getting a few folks on the internet to think what's happening is real and not scripted. Bro... what if we swerved so hard we shot a work?

The fact that there's now a worry that everything is a work makes me want to shoot Vince Russo into the sun.

Probably send Spears out in his place, the commentators pass it off as MJF being so spineless he skipped town rather than face Wardlow, and it's a quick squash.

If the contract reports are true, I’ve got to say MJF sounds in the wrong. He’s right to want more money. That’s fair. But if he wants more money without signing an extension, that’s a lot more unreasonable.
