Tana has gotten himself into G1 shape a little early this year, he was looking ripped on Dynamite this week.

I'd honestly have Tanahashi win. I dunno if New Japan want to risk that but they're at the point right now where they can go without Tanahashi for the smaller tours and he truly deserves an actual run in the US I hope this happens because it’d be unexpected and turn a shit sandwich into something great…especially because it looks like they’re planting the seeds to another Mox/Jericho feud and if that’s for the title then no thanks…

Here's another Tana pick-me-up: Actually might cry and I don't even know who the other guy is He's Tomiaki Honma. He was a deathmatch wrestler in the late 90s and early 00s and started working for NJPW around 2007. However what's he's most beloved for is his run when he came back to NJPW in 2013. He's never been more that a lower midcard guy but he's absolutely beloved after coming back from a number of serious injuries and having some absolute bangers with Shibata and Ishii in the 10s. His first g1 he was a late replacement for an injured Kota Ibushi and finished with no wins which helped turn him into an underdog figure and Honmania was born. His next g1 he lost his first 6 or 7 matches before FINALLY getting a win over Ishii. He had a serious neck injury in 2017 which was a scary, potential paralysis moment, but recovered and came back in 2018. He's very much not the wrestler he was before, but he remains a popular modcard character. He also has the croakiest voice ever due to some kind of throat injury. Think Steveo from Jackass or the Manaan fish people from KOTOR. So yeah, beloved lower midcarder with a history of serious injuries but manages to keep going. That moment with Tanahashi is really sweet.

Additionally, there was a stable in NJPW called "Great Bash Heel" with Togi Makabe as its leader, after he had replaced the previous leader of the group. Everyone in GBH betrayed Makabe, though, and rallied under Shinsuke Nakamura to form CHAOS, with only Honma remaining loyal to Makabe, so now Great Bash Heel is a tag team instead of a stable.

It gives him a very well deserved high profile US run, and personally Mox with the title again sounds dreadful. Plus you can get banger after banger out of Tanahashi b/c he can work with ANYONE, and then when Punk is healed you can do the match originally scheduled, just now as an Undisputed AEW Championship match. It's win-win all around.

No matter his age you can’t help but be drawn to him. He’s adapted his in ring repertoire as he’s aged but he still puts on gripping matches. As said above, G1 28 I was legitimately worried about him. He’s also my girlfriends favourite wrestler. She was not a fan when we got together but as soon as she heard the original version of Love & Energy and saw him she’s been enamoured ever since. she's no longer your girlfriend. She belong to Tana now. That's the power of the Ace.

It's win-win all around. absolutely. and there's a huge upside to having Tanahashi win in that when the next AEW x NJPW crossover comes around, for AEW fans that'll be the big "crossover guy" (if that makes sense), seeing as (if he wins) he'd have held the companies main title and carried it at one point. I mean they should really be using this crossover to get some NJPW guys over for the next time it rolls away, which they've been doing a decent job of so far with Will Ospreay and Jay White but Tanahashi could use the big win here.

Jushin Thunder Liger did an experiment to see if wrestlers who are asleep would react if they were pinned.
Tanahashi kicked out at one

I'd love to see Tanahashi win the interim title, if only for the surprise value. The AEW titles are usually pretty easy to plot and have expected winners, Tanahashi winning would be something new and different. After so many long AEW world title reigns with expected champs, why not bounce the interim title around a couple of unexpected people? Plus, it's bloody Tanahashi. It's not like he isn't world champ material.

I actually hope he wins the title. It would be a good shock for Forbidden Door if they want to keep it being a yearly PPV.

I think its the perfect time for the shock too because he would be INTERIM Champion and when Punk returns he would go over anyway. The main issue would be, aew both NJPW and Tanahashi willing to put the extra time away from NJPW? Because you probably shouldt have a show with a champion that never appears. (before anyone says it,unless you have 30 Years of estabilished branding )

They should've had Tana say more on Wednesday. Really weird that Tana never really said anything and it was mostly Mox talking.

I actually hope he wins the title. It would be a good shock for Forbidden Door if they want to keep it being a yearly PPV. I'm still hoping for that too but realistically I don't see how it's possible. Tana is booked for the G1 which starts a few weeks after FD and that schedule is just so brutal I don't see how he could be flying back and forth between Japan and the US to appear on Dynamite that month. I guess it's not impossible for him to beat Moxley then immediately drop it a few days later on Dynamite but I don't see that happening. It's interesting that the power dynamic being AEW/NJPW seems to be way more in favor of AEW. Tony said on Busted Open that NJPW have been wanting to do Moxley/Tana for over a year but he wouldn't let them because he wanted it to be on an AEW related show. Not sure when he was eventually planning to do it if Punk didn't get injured. It makes me think that some of the dream matches people have been fantasy booking for Wrestle Kingdom (Danielson/Okada) won't happen because TK won't sign off on it unless it happens on an AEW show. I was under the impression the bigger names like Danielson and Moxley had it written into their contracts they could do NJPW as long as it didn't interfere with scheduled AEW dates. I didn't realize TK had like creative control and could stop NJPW from booking stuff once they were over there.

Jushin Thunder Liger did an experiment to see if wrestlers who are asleep would react if they were pinned. Tanahashi kicked out at one Reminder that Liger also pinned a destroyed house by fellow NJPW Wrestlers. So: Tanahashi>>>>>Liger>>>>>A family home.

Of course, part of this was because it turns out Honma sleeps nude and he probably didn't want to kick out bareass, but still! I get why a thread like this exists, but just seeing "Sell me on Tanahashi" like it's something that needs to be done hurts my heart.

I didn't realize TK had like creative control and could stop NJPW from booking stuff once they were over there. That didn't apply to Moxley in the past as he was a contracted NJPW talent as well as an AEW talent. Not sure if that's still the case or if he's just an AEW talent now.
Also, the biggest reason Moxley vs Tanahashi didn't happen in the past was pandemic-related travel restrictions making it a big headache for both companies.
