I know nothing about him sadly. Or any of the talent coming in for Forbidden Door.

Watch his G1 28 Finals match against Kota Ibushi where he sold so well that it looked like Ibushi was literally beating him to death.

He's the best wrestler of the last 20 years.
Go watch some matches, Google is your friend

Only goes up to 2019, but it is a good starting point to learn about him

The only reason there's a New Japan to cross over with, let alone even AEW itself, is because of Hiroshi Tanahashi.

No matter his age you can’t help but be drawn to him. He’s adapted his in ring repertoire as he’s aged but he still puts on gripping matches. As said above, G1 28 I was legitimately worried about him. He’s also my girlfriends favourite wrestler. She was not a fan when we got together but as soon as she heard the original version of Love & Energy and saw him she’s been enamoured ever since.

Tanahashi is the total package. Incredible look, charisma, and ability. His prowess in translating all of it between the ropes made him arguably the most important star from Japan on an international level. And on top of that, he is one of the greatest big match wrestlers in the history of the world.
I think his closest American comparison is Bret Hart. Both take their wrestling very seriously, and their matches have a level of professionalism rarely duplicated.
Go Ace!

I've always thought Tanahasi was like Ricky Steamboat with Bret Hart's brain personally

Ooo better example. Tanahashi is 00s era Cena if he wasn't hopelessly cringe and could work. 10s era Cena feels so influenced by Tanahashi

He's just better at it.

It's tough to find New Japan matches because of how damagingly aggressive their TV partner is with takedowns, but this is a standout match against the best that AJ Style ever was. The G1 Climax is a huge, annual round robin tournament where people usually go all out on matches and this was as all out as you can get.

The ultimate babyface and even now at this point in his career is still a treasure to see. As great as he is a babyface, I always loved the cocky version of Tana that would appear because it added to his persona and charm

It’s a lesser point, but the ladies in Japan LOVE Tanahashi. Before the pandemic after he won and was all sweaty, the ladies would rush the barriers waving their towels at him to get them some Tana sweat.
