And don't blame Dave for the MINUS FIVE STARS! - blame TNA and Vince Russo. In school you couldn't get anything less than a zero. The same thing should apply here. Watching wrestling can't take anything away other than your time. And if it does take more than your time away, then maybe you should watch something else. There's a reason people gravitated to Siskel and Ebert. They either liked a movie or they didn't like a movie. Keep it simple.

I don't care about Meltzer's opinions. He has a clear anti-WWE bias when it comes to his rankings. He's just a dude who has an opinion, I get that. But his opinion has had a negative impact on how wrestlers view building a match. I absolutely hate the Young Bucks spot fest style of matchmaking but they get a 4-star match anytime they step in the ring. The fact that the terrible Young Bucks vs The Hardy's match from DON got 4 stars is a freaking joke. Anyone saying Meltzer has an anti WWE bias is a "tell me you don't listen to Meltzer without telling me you don't listen to Meltzer" thing. If anything, he will defend them a lot to his partner Bryan Alvarez. He's just not a complete shill for them but he actually likes their product even when he's critical. He also has his personal likes and dislikes. He had nothing but praise for the black and gold Era of NXT for example because that kind of product was more to his tastes. Tbh that's like calling you an E-drone because you're more defensive of WWE than most. It's unnecessarily reductive and dismissive.

He has an anti-WWE bias in his match rankings. WWE going 11 years without a 5-star match is ridiculous when the 2010s was the best in-ring product the company has ever produced. I stand by what I said. Also, I never said he was anti-WWE overall. I am talking just about his match ranking system.

But he literally just gave a WWE match a five star match. And while it was the first one in awhile, it's not like he's been negative towards the company because they're WWE either. Lots of WWE matches have gotten high marks from him.

That's such a hard match to rate, for me. It was uncomfortable to watch but that's what made it so unique. It's kind of like the I Quit match from Rumble '99, where it's entertaining to a certain extent but also extremely uncomfortable watching those chair shots.
Honestly, the only matches I'd rate five stars since I started watching again in 2019 would be the two matches between Jey and Roman. Even though there was barely any actual wrestling, I was on the edge of my seat throughout, and I haven't felt like that watching a match since. If we're talking AEW, I'd go with the Young Bucks versus Lucha Brothers at All Out, which just blew my mind.

I've no opinion on Meltzer's ratings, but the fact that he has been a wrestling journalist for over 40 YEARS blows my f***ing mind.

Unimportant to the fans but Cody and Seth as as probably as pleased as punch right now, it is said that "the boys" take Meltzer's star rating system very seriously (not idea why), so good for them. I imagine both wrestlers will pitch match 4 between them to Vince as the WM main event (MITB cash in champ Seth v RR winner Cody) although Rollins could do with handing Cody his first loss for some heat and I think Vince will go for Cody v Brock next year. (Brock looking like an older massively jacked up Cody will make the David v Goliath visuals look better).

Wow, he seriously gave that 4 stars? Yes, lol. I was there live and I'd agree with that. Just a super fun match. Something the Bucks should be proud of.

Also for the record, Dave has said that if you're within half a star of someone, you basically agree. It's a 20 point ranking system after all. If he gave a match 4.75 stars, it's basically a 5 star match. And calling it the first WWE match to get that in 11 years is a little weird. All those NXT shows had WWE in the name and he gave plenty of those matches 5 stars.

I was there live and I'd agree with that. Did they show a different match in the arena or something?

Who gives a damn though? Why does one guy's opinion matter so much to wrestlers? He actually claimed a few weeks ago that his ratings aren't even his personal opinion on the match or about what he likes or dislikes as ridiculous as that sounds. Which begs the question, if he's claiming it's some kind of objective measurement he's using, what is that? It can't be crowd reaction. There are plenty of matches that have the crowd going crazy he gave poor ratings too.

Or, get this, he has a style of match he likes and WWE doesn't play to that style. They don't have to just like he doesn't have to accept that as the end all be all of wrestling. That is no different that any other fan except a certain level of mark has to find a way to bitch over and manipulate it to fit their agenda. I don't like most lucha and wouldn't rate it great if I cared enough to make a job out of it, would I need to change my opinion to be fair to lucha fans or are they smart enough to realize it's just not my thing 95% of time and look for opinions on it from people who do like it? Because I'm seeing people being pissed off a person doesn't share their love of WWE style and wanting things to change because it and that is kinda bullshit.
