F***. What the hell happened for it to just crater like that? It doesn't help that Turner plays ping pong with it's time slot. I get sports triumph regular programming, but it's been like a month of different time slots. 10pm is a hard enough time slot to attract viewers.

The product is ice cold and it seems more than a few people have been turned off by the MJF worked shoot drama.

There wasn't much on this Friday. I'm not sure. Smackdown saw a bump with Roman's main event it seemed, but Rampage this week was more of a lower end card with an unadvertised Sting return at the end, so I'm not sure what the breakdown even looked like
Ultimately when it comes time to re-negotiate a new deal, I think Tony is going to have to discuss Rampage, and its existence on TNT at 10PM. Ultimately TNT seems happy with it, but the constant shuffling of its timeslot for weeks on end has done the show zero favors.
The prospect of it moving Networks and/or airing at a better timeslot consistently really needs to be discussed if this trend keeps up. Ultimately like how Dynamite was, you hope this has just been a weird week and things will bounce back.

At this point I’d just move Rampage to Thursday. Even being able to close Dynamite with “tune in tomorrow night for the conclusion of this epic encounter” or whatever. Friday night works for WWE, it sure ain’t working for AEW.

Rampage needs to matter more. I actually tuned in and enjoyed but it was like 99% predictable stuff. If they want people to care, they need more stuff that usually would be on Dynamite.

The product is ice cold and it seems more than a few people have been turned off by the MJF worked shoot drama. You literally cannot peg this on that, like at all. The MJF promo also did huge numbers, the highest of the show that week, and he has since been off the show. Forbidden Door's also seen good ratings and the highest of the show last week were Forbidden Door segments, I wouldn't call the product "ice cold" off these metrics, but with stuff happening to the likes of Punk and Danielson, it does put a damper on things, but yeah just proclaiming "Oh MJF's promo drove people away"? Nah, not vibing with that take.

Nah, not vibing with that take. What exactly is a hot feud in AEW? Wardlow vs Mark Sterling? The NJPW matches seem like they were drawn from a hat and they have like a dozen titles but no actual feuds. Both Dynamite and Rampage have been down since the MJF promo so the facts say otherwise.

Blaming rampage rating on Mjf that never appeared on the show is just stupid.
at very least blame on the people that constantly appear on the show if you are gonna blame any wrestler or story.
But yeh the tv show has been eeeh? The matches mostly feel fillery and the ping pov of tv hours doesn't help at all either

The product is ice cold and it seems more than a few people have been turned off by the MJF worked shoot drama. I agree with it being ice cold. I think it’s silly to blame it on MJF though. I’d actually point to him NOT being there as contributing to this ratings swoon. Product had lost a lot of their top tier star power. Especially from a TV ratings perspective. Punk, Danielson, MJF, Sting, Omega have all been MIA since The Forum (or longer). I do agree there are no hot feuds right now. Nothing is compelling. The Forbidden Door card is a huge let down. I will enjoy the show, because the wrestling will be great and I was big New Japan from 2015-2019, but none of it matters. The first one of these shows should be as big as possible. How important can it be if you can’t even convince two of your top stars in Okada and Naito to participate? Maybe some big angle happens on Wednesday that leads to a big ppv buyrate but as a TV product it’s unappealing.

Rampage really just feels like it has little reason to exist. Almost nothing of consequence ever happens on there so, combined with its shitty timeslot, there isn't really much reason to watch it.

I'm not putting the drop on MJF, its on Tony trying to work the fans and journalists and it backfiring big time.

It definitely feels like filler at this point, I'm just waiting for the PPV to pass to see where they go next with the MJF stuff and future title contenders.

I don’t really see how your logic lines up though, as the shows that have dropped in ratings specifically have not featured this storyline at all. It’s a lot safer to say the Forbidden Door focus, where more time is spent on wrestlers fans don’t know, alongside several people who are really over(MJF included) not being around, have something to do with the viewership drop.

100% agree that the product is cold right now. Injuries to key guys (Punk/Danielson) + whatever the hell is happening with MJF + Forbidden Door being a niche within a niche with how unlikely it is that a casual will care about it, etc. I think things will start to go back to normal a bit after FD is over and they move back to AEW centric stories again but they'll have to push through this PPV in the mean time.
