How much self-loathing do you have to have to spend time posting derisively about "wrasslin fans" on a wrestling forum? Because I've got news for ya - despite the McMahon family's best efforts to make it something else over the last 30 years, WWE is "wrasslin" too. Then, now, and forever. Speaking about "wrasslin" in a condescending tone is the height of hypocrisy. Even if you consider yourself a "WWE-only fan," and won't even bat an eyelash at the "traveling circuses" of AEW and the indies, you're still a fan of professional wrestling. The only reason WWE is more popular is because it's been around longer, and if you think it's, somehow, more socially acceptable in the mainstream then you're lying to yourself. Wrestling is weird, nerdy, niche form of entertainment that we all love anyway whether it's WWE, AEW, CZW, or anything in between. Agreed except for the part about the only reason being how long it’s been around. I and many others enjoy their shows and style of product more as well, which contributes to its popularity. My post wasn't intended to imply that AEW (or the indies)'s product is any better or worse than WWE's, just that, in my opinion, the primary reason that WWE is so far ahead is a 30+ year head start in terms of brand recognition. I mostly just wanted to rebut the Cornette-tinged implication of the post I was responding to that WWE is socially acceptable, mainstream entertainment (and has the only "draws" in the industry), while everything else is a bunch of embarrassing "traveling circuses" (or "outlaw mudshows," as the case may be). That's complete nonsense. It's all niche. WWE's part of the niche is just larger, has a network television show, and has been around for substantially longer.

No, they’re not a draw. Aew is the draw. The fans go to see aew. There are no casual fans. You’re drawing the 1 million or so wrasslin fans that watched tna before. They aren’t moving the needle. They aren’t drawing new eyes to the product. In fact they “draw” so much that they’re bringing their traveling circus to summerslam weekend with starrcast in hopes that people beyond the quaint audience they attract normally might see it and be interested. They get mad support from this audience. It’s the die hard wrestling fans myself included. Outside of this audience they don’t exist. Just like tna was. If that’s derogatory so be it. They’ve been given plenty of chances to draw and keep interest. Instead we got a big surprise followed by blood and f bombs on prime time tv. I regularly see aew advertisements on television, see promotion in mainstream media. It’s not catching on. You want aew to get big? people have to let go of some of this stuff that is just edgy for no reason and seriously stop being so thin skinned in general about criticism on the product. If you don’t want the product to grow I understand that too. However by growing as a company the audience for wrestling goes up and the business thrives. I personally would love more wrestling fans than less. Wwe sucks too. Just on a bigger scale. This isn’t about wwe and their old tired stuff though.

I'm not being thin-skinned about criticism of the product. AEW does a ton of stuff that sucks. I criticize stuff that AEW does all the time. I am being thin-skinned about AEW being derided for catering to the "wrasslin fans," though. It's not that I "don't want the product to grow," it's that I understand that the surest way to ensure that AEW fails is to try and pander to people who aren't wrestling fans. I agree with you that there are no casual fans. The surest way to guarantee that AEW will fail is to try and pander to the casual fans that don't really exist. Take away the stuff that you've labeled as "edgy for no reason," and AEW loses its core fanbase that loves that stuff, while also failing to attract the viewers who aren't inclined to watch professional wrestling in the first place. EDIT: And just to keep this all in one place, to be clear, the only reason I even mentioned WWE is because the entire tone of your post was that AEW is, somehow, trying to leech off of WWE's popularity and appeal by having its talent participate in Starrcast on Summerslam weekend. You can't just say this "isn't about WWE" when you specifically drew the comparison between AEW and WWE, there.

Like, let's be honest here, if pro wrestling were more socially acceptable, the Vince McMahon story would be a much bigger story than it is because of WWE's worth and value to companies. If Jeff Bezos was accused of using company money for an employee for sex and getting her to sign an NDA afterwards, it'd be one of the biggest news stories in the world right now and fair enough. EDIT: Also to add...AEW by itself has already excelled all expectations by being able to have about a million or so watch every week. TNA didn't do that until, what, 2007? 6 years after its birth?

Right, to put a finer point on it, the "quaint audience" is the wrestling fandom at large, not just the portion of it that watches AEW.
