Am I right that Punk's only losses in his AEW tenure are to MJF (twice) on Dynamite and to Mox a couple of weeks ago? I was going to say I think he lost to Wardlow, but he actually won that match. I just remember Wardlow kicking his ass for almost the whole match.

I think that Punk is just the latest guy that became his wrestling persona at the expense of Phil Brooks like so many others before him. IIRC he was even announced in the UFC as CM Punk and not Phil “CM Punk” Brooks. Combine that with him buying into the leader of men gimmick that he’s had in just about everywhere that he’s wrestled at one point or another and “Cult of Personality” is his theme. At least that’s what it seems like to me. Who knows what he’s like at home away from all of the adulation and everything, but dude seems to have lost the plot somewhere along the way.
One day a respected psychologist will write a book about wrestlers caught up in the gimmick….at least I hope.

Dare I look? EDIT: Ah, I see what it's about. Ehh, I get why Becky feels the need to stick up for someone she had positive interactions with, but I also wonder if it's occurred to her how long ago that was. Once upon a time, Colt and Punk were thick as thieves, too, until they weren't. It's sort of like how Winona Ryder said how Johnny Depp had never abused her, but she did also point out that she also had been with him decades ago and that wasn't really any indication one way or another if accusations against him since then had merit. and also "they were nice to me." isn't really a defense against them being a dick to someone else... It's well documented that Punk has been a ride-or-die, absolutely stand-up guy for some of his friends over the years, while also being an asshole to many others. I know that the story of him buying a house for Joey Mercury has been mentioned in this thread before.

One of the funniest random TNA bits of info is that Robbie E and Cookie (Becky Bayless) split because Robbie was like damn I do not wanna be around you at all As like, a bit, or IRL? Either way, hilarious.

AEW was fine and growing before CM Punk and will be fine and continue to grow without CM Punk
They've passed their "Gonna die if they don't do this or that" period, they proved they're here to stay when they outlasted the pandemic's worst haymakers. They are only making profit, the video game will only pile on to that profit, they will get a major new TV deal in the next year or so, everything's come up good with them
No one wrestler will kill the company if they're just suddenly no longer there and with good reason. Some fans might leave who were only there for CM Punk if that's really all that was keeping them there, but AEW's viewerbase is pretty damn diehard at this point, they get great live gates, the PPV gates are now doing over 1 million, they're just not in this position where one wrestler is bigger than the company.
The Elite leaving would absolutely suck more than CM Punk leaving even if there was zero baggage attached to Punk. Like it or not, they're a huge reason AEW's even here, and them leaving would signal the end of an era in a huge way. I don't believe The Elite are going anywhere and will be back once the investigation is over though.

AEW can and would survive without either Punk or the Elite. And without all of them.
But if the Elite left completely (and didn't just retire into backstage roles or something) it would definitely change the vibe and the feeling of the company. You can't talk about the start and early days of AEW without talking about the Elite. It was Tony's money and business acumen that got AEW off the ground, but the vision and soul of AEW came from the Elite. AEW would go on without them but it would change. I think it'd be like the change from the Attitude Era to the Ruthless Aggression one (or any other distinct WWE eras) - same company, many of the same players, just a different vibe.

I am curious about what Meltz is referring to when he says if someone gets fired there will be a lawsuit. Like what grounds would Punk have to sue after a flame out where he buried his bosses and coworkers in public, started a fight, and his one of his flunkies bit a dude. I’m genuinely curious what he could sue for. Regardless, TK, should just keep him on payroll until he is medically cleared and then buy him out. He’s a a mid 40s guy that essentially has the durability of Glass Joe and is divisive in the locker room. It’s an easy choice to me, I will say that if Punk is a regular in AEW after his injury is healed it will significantly hurt AEW in the long term. May do okay in the short term, but Punk was getting to the point of diminishing returns already and that’s not even taking into account how polarizing that he is in the locker room. Depends on what is in Punk’s contract, really. As far as guaranteed money, reasons the contract can be terminated, etc.

I went to college in the upstate of South Carolina. At the time, one of the more prominent businessmen in the area was a real estate agent named Todd Kohlhepp. You'd see his face on bus stops, benches, and the like. I met him one time, and he was one of the nicest, most affable guys I've ever encountered. Encouraged me to work hard, and gave me some pointers for how to start a business later in life. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Kohlhepp

Reposting this from 20 pages ago because some of us may have missed it over the weekend. Here's someone who actually knew Punk for a few recent years who has been 100% quiet since the whole Punk-Colt stuff went down finally weighing in on the scrum - This week's episode of the podcast Marty and Sarah Love Wrestling went live yesterday. Marty is in the unique position as he'd known Punk for a few relatively recent years when Punk kept a small circle but never once talked about the off-screen Punk following the Colt fallout. Acknowledging Punk and the scrum being out in the open, this episode talks - not in a gossipy way or clickbait-y but an actually insightful way about it. He comes back to it a few times throughout the whole episode, and it really puts a lot in perspective. Marty and Sarah Love Wrestling is my favorite current weekly wrestling podcast so I'd recommend a subscription. Their take and approach to the medium is refreshing and unique. Anyway, here's the episode, it's also on all podcast platforms - mnslovewrestling.libsyn.com/324-lets-get-into-it

A contract is a contract, but I think Florida is a so-called "right to work" state. Does that have any bearing on things or does it not apply to independent contractors?
