Wow, I know Fred is basically joked and referred as the generic guy, but that is despicable how he's being treated. I mean, he was a joke in A Pup named Scooby Doo and was the butt of some kind of creepy parodies in Cartoon Network bumps, Venture Bros., and I assume Robot Chicken took the piss out of him at some time too. Fred since Pup has been Flanderised into a buffoon, pretty much.

Considering the second season was allegedly greenlit last week, and the show only debuted last week, it seems like they had already decided the show would have another season regardless of reception. Which is genuinely maddening, when you consider how many shows that actually have audience approval that they cancelled just last year. I cannot comment on Velma as I had not seen it, but if it is garbage and Discovery renewed it shortly after cancelling Young Justice, that would definitely be a series of choices they could have made. Gotta make room for shows like 800 pound Sisters and My Tumor talks to me.

You have to be really bad to rate worse than Lily Singh

I can’t even try and watch this. Just reading stuff about this show pisses me off.

I hear there's a bottom 10 animation section on IMDB that it's atop now. I'd like to see what the rest of the list looks like. I must say, however, that a lot of the other shows there on the IMDB Bottom...well, I've seen worse. Seems like people spamming the ratings because they dislike reality shows and soap operas, for instance. And there's certain shows I'm pretty sure are down there because of who hosted/starred in them. Kind of like how MSTies made sure the movies seen on the show would be in the bottom ranked movies, back in the day.

I'm surprised The View isn't ranked first.

Fred since Pup has been Flanderised into a buffoon, pretty much. I dont mind Fred being a himbo but like all the other characters in Velma, he has 0 traits that makes him Fred. He isnt confident, he doesnt even try to be a leader or to be crafty. The same way Norville has 0 traits of Shaggy, absolutely nothing besides the clothes. The same way Daphne having 0 personality is only true on the original series. And even then the only thing they got from her is that she is pretty.

I've heard some people say that the show was made to be as bad as possible to get people to hate-watch it.
I think people SEVERELY overestimate the intelligence and decision-making abilities of corporate executives.

I've seen this argument in a few places and while I wouldn't at all be surprised at corporate execs spending huge amounts of time and money on an animated show specifically designed to be hate-watched, an intentionally bad show would still get more hits on jokes than Velma does. I mean, we're supposed to like this show. Shit, we're supposed to be drawn in by Mindy Kaling being involved in it; this was an attempt to be entertaining.

I wouldn't say it's intentionally bad so much as trying way too hard to be meta and subversive and just ending up mean-spirited instead.
Like, it's trying really hard to jump on the current adult animation trends set by shows like Rick and Morty and Harley Quinn and failing miserably at it.

Yeah it just feels like every it’s cramming every Rick and Morty and Family Guy type joke into places where jokes don’t need to be made. Till the point where it’s a detriment to the show. I get it’s subverting characters, there’s a good show in there somewhere but I don’t think we’re going to find it before it’s cancelled.

This reminds me of Allen Gregory. ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_Gregory ) They made a comedy with a gay family as part of the main cast, played and written by straight people naturally, and forgot to make them likeable or funny, kind of important things for a comedy. It felt like the product of a writers room filled with 'star' comedy people trying to be controversial after getting high by sniffing their own farts, just like Velma, and the end product appealed to nobody outside of that room. 'Look, we don't need jokes! We're controversial, folks! Acknowledge us!'

Oh no. That's the first time I've seen Wikipedia's new layout.
Is it bad on purpose too?

Velma has a lower IMDB rating than Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Velma has a lower IMDB rating than Manos: The Hands of Fate. Hell, it’s got a lower IMDB rating than The Red Ape Family (that unbelievably terrible cartoon which was made solely to sell NFTs).

If it were intentionally bad the animation wouldn't look as good as it does. Intentionally bad cartoons look like 12 oz. Mouse.
