Swerve: Norville isn’t a stoner.

Why is Shaggy being called Norville? That would be like if they made a new Archie cartoon, but Jughead was only referred to as Forsythe.

I guess to avoid, erm, certain types being offended at reimagining Shaggy? They will be offended regardless. I think its because he now resembles the singer Shaggy.

So, I've seen this paragraph from an article floating around the last couple days, and I found the original article yesterday. It was posted last year, and it seemed to be a list of internal casting notes for the show. I've been hesitant to buy into it 100%, since the site itself seems to be attached to some crypto/NFT bullshit, but it also predicts a lot of details that weren't public knowledge until the last couple days, like Shaggy being black, Daphne having two moms, and Velma's parents being divorced. I'm still holding my breath over these character descriptions, but if they're real, holy shit are they doing Fred dirty: link

So I’m not going to watch this anyway, but is it Scooby Doo without Scooby -Doo?

If true that seems rather mean spirited.

Mystery Inc. does address the daddy issues, but the other stuff?

If true that seems rather mean spirited. Both sides can be like that. That's why I usually am atheistic about certain topics and issues...

Pass. Hard pass. I’m all for comical takes taking the piss out of classic characters (I’m looking at you Birdman and your take on Shaggy and Scooby) but this just seems trying a little too hard. I kind of liked the idea originally when I thought it was just going to be a take on Velma herself. I agree on the “Fred being done dirty” take too. That’s why I think the original team worked…they all were pretty much equals even if Shag and Scoob always got the short end of the stick ending up as ghost bait. You had the dude wearing the ascot, the rich girl, the nerd, the stoner and the talking dog and they all were friends.

Yeah, that just sounds... weird and stupid for Fred. It feels like if you want to make him work in this kind of concept, making him an in-over-his-head clueless generic white guy who thinks he understands things more than he actually does would work better than that nonsense.

I wouldn't really take that article too seriously even if it is genuine. It reads like a pitch, and a million things can and generally do change between pitch and final product.
As for "no Scooby", the premise of a prequel almost guarantees he's planned to be found within the show.

They said they didn't want Scooby because there was no way to make it adult with scooby... (Despite again there being takes with Scooby) my guess is it was 100% originally meant to be it's own thing that HBO slapped an IP on

Saying that Velma is underappreciated and overlooked shows that they never really bothered to watch the series and just stuck with the first movie or the tongue in-cheek Cartoon Network adverts
She was the genius of the group who often found the clues as well as the motive behind it. Plus, given her male romantic interests over the years, she's Bi if anything.

Plus, given her male romantic interests over the years, she's Bi if anything. Yeah, Velma has always been the most important member of the group. Even in the original series, she was the brains. If anything, Daphne was the underappreciated and overlooked. Fred the leader, Velma the brains, Shaggy and Scooby the bait.
