Or if not, perhaps WB is scared of Scooby being there attracting kids to this adult take? but scooby's been in things like Scooby Apocolypse the adult comic with zombies and other takes. They said they didn't want Scooby because there was no way to make it adult with scooby... (Despite again there being takes with Scooby) my guess is it was 100% originally meant to be it's own thing that HBO slapped an IP on I would rather they did a Scooby Apocalypse story, it wasn’t too bad

Saying that Velma is underappreciated and overlooked shows that they never really bothered to watch the series and just stuck with the first movie or the tongue in-cheek Cartoon Network adverts She was the genius of the group who often found the clues as well as the motive behind it. Plus, given her male romantic interests over the years, she's Bi if anything. Yeah, Velma has always been the most important member of the group. Even in the original series, she was the brains. If anything, Daphne was the underappreciated and overlooked. Fred the leader, Velma the brains, Shaggy and Scooby the bait. I seem to recall it was frequently a gag in the original series that Velma wouldn't get the credit for hiw she'd contributed to finding the crook and she'd get mad about it. Although I could be misremembering, it's been... a very long time.

Sounds to me as though this was an original project and it got rejected, so they then slapped the Scooby franchise on it to try and get it greenlit.

Why couldn't we have just gotten a Reluctant Werewolf sequel instead and bring back Googie?

So Daphne is a drug dealer, Fred gets by on "white privilege" and has a small penis and Shaggy, oh excuse me, Norville is a beta male.
Papaw, you introduced me to Scooby when I was three. I'm sure glad you aren't here to see this.

That sounds even worse than I imagined, and I imagined it would be pretty bad.

This started as something entirely different and they smooshed the Scooby IP into it. Bet.

Granted I will probably still watch because there are still more staff to think about (Voice Actors, Animators), but it does dampen my enjoyment a bit

At one point, I might have complained, but I don't want people to think I have a hangup with diversity, etc. it's just that I was used to one dimensional characters, and frankly, there's people in my everyday life that I prefer to be one dimensional. I'll ignore the show just like I did a pup named Scooby Doo as I'm an adult now and if anything, I'll watch the same episodes I did as a kid because I don't have children that I have to watch this with and I like the one dimensional familiarity.

This reminds me of that horrid 'SJW' New Warriors comic from a few years back, written by a straight, white TV writer, where the starting point was 'Who will this irritate and how can we use this to get publicity?' rather than 'Who will actually enjoy this?' They ended up appealing to no-one and this feels very much in that vein.

I'm waiting for this to fail and then HBO MAX uses that as an excuse of "People don't like animated shows anymore".
