Velma is the worst thing to happen to the Scooby-Doo franchise since Scrappy-Doo. Even Scooby Dum?

Velma is the worst thing to happen to the Scooby-Doo franchise since Scrappy-Doo. Even Scooby Dum? Maybe. I made the joke because Scrappy's such an easy target.

Velma is the worst thing to happen to the Scooby-Doo franchise since Scrappy-Doo. Actually Scrappy was a positive for the show at first and actually boosted slumping ratings. A lot of the Scrappy hate feels more built over time.

Prefacing this with I have not watched the show, but seeing clips and reading comments about it on Twitter, I think this is the most balanced take on the show I've come across, approaching it in a compliment sandwich approach.

I watched the first episode, and I’m not some huge Scooby Doo purist or anything, but that gave me huge Gregory Allen vibes in that almost every character is either unlikeable or kind of a sad sack. And that’s fine in a show like Always Sunny where I can laugh at them destroying themselves, but we’re clearly supposed to like Velma, and yet I didn’t. It’s like they’re aiming at making her a snarky Daria type, and it’s not working because Kaling and company are so fixated on being as meta and self aware as possible.
Normally I’m all for the anti-inclusion chud crowd staying mad, but this show’s way too “how do you do fellow kids”.

Oh god, just when I thought I saw the nadir of the content in Velma, today I learned that it turns out Scooby actually IS in the show, but not as a dog that is Shaggy, sorry I mean Norville, is friends with, but rather as *inhales* a hot Black woman food critic named Scoobi(yes with an I) that Norville dates to try to get over his simping for Velma. Burn it. Burn it all down. I hope this haunts the careers of the people who created it(not the actors aside from Mindy because she’s in the creator camp). Screw this show.

Let it keep getting worse, I can't wait to see the fallout for the creators.

I *really* don't like the implications of turning Scooby, a dog Shaggy is pals with, into Scoobi, a girl Shaggy's trying to f***.
Like, how do you even get from point A to point B in the thought process... What the f***?

Like, how do you even get from point A to point B in the thought process... What the f***? Calling it now, "Scoobi" gets merked, and Norvile, either at the end of this season or sometime in the second season (yes, a second season for this filet of failure is already in the works) Norville names his dog Scooby. In her honor. Because inventing a whole Black woman to kill off for no payoff beyond "this is why the dog is named that" sounds par for the course at this point. Not to mention the HIGHLY questionable implications of turning a dog into a Black woman specifically. Genuinely impressive how the "woke" multiethnic adaptation has managed to be more culturally insensitive than any of the all-white adaptations have been. Bravo, Mindy.

Normally I’m all for the anti-inclusion chud crowd staying mad, but this show’s way too “how do you do fellow kids”. When the culture war Youtubers hate a show, movie, or game I want to like it just to say f*** you to them, because culture war youtubers are the worst. But sometimes a show attempts things that piss of those people and then actually sucks. And I f***ing hate it because I feel like they're vindicated and I don't want that. They're still wrong about their reasons for hating it at least. [Reminds me of a guy I knew on Discord who always happened to hate everything the culture warriors hated, but claimed not to consume that content and always seemed to have fair non-bigoted reasons for hating the things. Drove me up the wall lol.]

Go figure the show people thought was going to be "woke" is actually pretty f***ing racist.
