Asks for a boycott on Bayo3
Essentially getting about 4,000 to do voicework for a game that made millions.

That's f***ed she got so little
However, someone correct me if I am wrong. Aren't they VA's paid upfront and the studio basically owns their voice when doing that game. They don't get residuals on game sales or anything like that right? It sucks she got so shortchanged

For a main character and selling point of the game, that's absurdly low. I was kinda surprised that Revali's VA from Breath Of The Wild mentioned that he got paid a similar amount, given how massive that game was, and got more from his work on indie game Freedom Planet, but it at least kinda makes sense there as Revali's not a huge part of the game. But this is Bayonetta in the game Bayonetta.

Unfortunately this is nothing new for the video game industry. A lot of video game voice acting gigs are still non-union. That's why you often see VA's either use pseudonyms or are outright uncredited in a lot of games.
It also seems to be a lot more common practice with localizations of Japanese games (which Bayonetta is) than games made in North America and Europe. Happens a lot in anime dubs, too.

They can't even claim that they lowballed her for budget reasons since they replaced her with Jennifer Hale who, while a great voice actress, is also much more costly

I get the feeling they didn’t want her to do the role because I doubt Hale is doing it for $4000
Not saying that’s nice. And it may not be accurate but just a feeling
I sympathise with her to an extent but when she started to compare herself to nurses who are going to food banks and the stuff about Hale seemed kinda petty too
I’ve never played the games even though I’ve seen clips etc so I do have less of an emotional investment in the series

It is a sticky business and while she may been done wrong, you would be taking money out of people who put elbow grease into the game that has nothing to do with it.

I've never played these games and know nothing about them, but how many hours would be involved when recording the main voice?

So, more likely, they wanted to cast Jennifer Hale all along, and gave Taylor a scumbag lowball so she'd be insulted and refuse, but if people complained they could say, "Well we offered her a chance to reprise and she said no."

To no surprise, Hideki Kamiya hasn't responded to this very well, and is blocking everyone (which he already does, but like with his own reason this time) This backfired though as his account's been restricted.

It feels like some Japanese game directors tend to underestimate/misunderstand the value of Western voice actors. Its not remotely comparable, but even Kojima seemed to treat David Hayter pretty shabbily despite how iconic he was to Metal Gear fans outside of Japan.

Listen, you don't want to do the work for that amount, that's on you - and that's fair. To make a video like this as if Sega f***ED her over is untrue, IMO. They offered her something she thought was under her paygrade, she probably countered and they refused. All of that is above board.
This is all so dramatic - Bayonetta stands for this and that - come on now... you're not a hero lady. You got offered a shit deal, I'm sorry, but you're still free to use your skills anywhere else in the world.
Comparing herself to nurses.... okay there...
Edit: and then she says the new Bayonetta "has no right to sign autographs as the voice of Bayonette" - this lady is trippin'
Edit edit: And she finishes it up with a parable from the Bible about Lazarus and the rich man who chose not to give him any food, and how they are going to hell.
MAJOR LOL

In general it really sucks how wildly disrespected and undervalued VAs are.

Hideki Kamiya acts like such a bizarre character on Twitter and it's amusing until you realize that's a real person behind the keyboard.

I seen alot of people blaming Nintendo for this but Nintendo dont own the rights to Bayonetta. Nintendo just funded the sequels to the original game. If anything this fall on SEGA (The company that actually own the rights to Bayonetta) and Platinum Games. I actually wont surpised if they lowballed the voice actor because they dont have the funds to pay her due to the game being in development hell for the last couple years.

Nah they definitely got the funds. As mentioned earlier in this thread they replaced her with Jennifer Hale, who without question is a far more expensive actor(Hale is also known to be very outspoken, so if they lowballed her too, we’d absolutely be hearing about it right now too).

Kind of doubt that's the case just because the replacement's Jennifer Hale and I'd have to imagine she'd be much more expensive.

Being watching this on twitter, and I honestly don't get the outrage. A job came up she was offered, money was low so she passed. Someone else got the job and was (probably) paid more. Bit shit but move on to your next gig. It's not like she did the work and then they under paid her. Or am I missing something?

Let's not mince words here, Nintendo has a hell of a lot of money in the bank for titles and between development and marketing costs, its clear a lot has gone into the game for a while. A small budget raise for actors would hardly be that much to ask for if either they or Platinum actually cared.
