MODOK's just too doofus and goofy looking to take seriously in a live action film.

I just got back from watching it. I would say it's the weakest of the Ant-man and Wasp trilogy but I still enjoyed it. If I hadn't been following everything, it might feel jarring how much has changed since the first movie. At the same time I was okay with it. There was a genuine progression and it makes sense that after stuff like Civil War and Endgame, Ant-man would be in a vastly different place than the first movie.
I was disappointed by the lack of Michael Pena. Also, given how terrible MODOK looked without the faceplate, they really should have left it on after the reveal of who he was. That said, it was a decent way to introduce Kang to audiences, it was a nice self contained movie and moved some stuff forward that needed to.
I haven't been as down on Phase Four as most and I tend to ignore critics when it comes to comic movies (I just expect them to crap on comic movies and was genuinely surprised to hear that so many Marvel movies have high overall ratings from critics). I feel like Marvel is in a Pixar place where even their worst is not really that bad. But yeah, overall I enjoyed it. I could have done with less of MODOK's wonky face but otherwise the effects didn't bother me too much.

Have a feeling it's going to have a big box office drop this weekend That's a given. Comic book movies typically fall anywhere between 60-70% in the second week. Anything in that range is business as normal. Anything about is a disappointment.

That "the VFX team has moved on" joke from She-Hulk gets less funny by the film/series. I was much grumpier about it last week, but to restate something I posted in the MCU thread: I don't think Feige and Marvel slowly shutting the spigots of content production isn't going to be the solution people on the internet think it will be regarding the quality of the MCU as a whole, the quality of MCU VFX specifically, and the quality of life VFX artists lose out on when working on Marvel projects. Conventional wisdom would suggest more time means better quality. And while that can be true, it's often the case that the opposite happens--more time means even more work. When game studios experience crunch months before a release date deadline, and a game gets delayed another 6 months to a year, the delay doesn't mean that the game devs no longer experience the crunch of the moment. It's that crunch becomes extended into a death march until the new release date. In recent memory, this has been true for many studios like Santa Monica (the Dad of Boy games), RockStar (RDR2), Naughty Dog (TLOU2), and CDPKR (Cyberpunk). What's expressed in this article I can see still being a problem when Marvel allows itself to have more time: more time to think about and overthink VFX, to change ideas, to provide countless, contradictory notes from Marvel creatives and execs, to rework certain acts in the story, to respond to focus-group testing, to keep moving stuff--that could have and should have been done in production--to post-production because it's cheaper or faster for the production crew to do so, etc. It's not like companies such as Disney will pay more, despite having the money to do so, when they want things on the cheap, because all these companies care about is "line goes up." This probably isn't going to change. And the MCU is 15+ years into making movies and TV shows. This late into the process, Feige and company aren't going to change the way they pre-produce, produce, and post-produce stuff, so that won't likely change either. Ultimately, it's clear that VFX artists and VFX studios need to organize, to unionize and, if need be, to strike. The world can wait for Fantastic Four, the X-Men, The Kang Dynasty, and Secret Wars.

MODOK's just too doofus and goofy looking to take seriously in a live action film. Hard Disagree, and they didnt even f***ing try. Of course MODOK is easy for a hero to make fun off but he is not a stretched human head. He is supposed to be horrific looking, a deformed face I know this is a video game but concept a lone they got it 1000X times betters.

I will just say I didn't feel MODOK was particularly necessary for the story... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Nor was giving him an heroic redemption. Kang needed a lieutenant. I feel like it was happenstance that they chose to make it MODOK Make it Iron-Lad. Immortus or any other KANG Collectible Variant, no need to be MODOK.

Knowing capitalism, that just means the companies will outsource the VFX to countries where worker protections are even worse or practically nonexistent. There's a reason like, for example, anime animators don't unionize(EVEN THOUGH THEY ABSOLUTELY SHOULD), the production committees will just move more and more of the animation workload to China and Vietnam, which have even lower animator wages than Japan's.

My wife told me she has the same ass as MODODK so that's my take away Always remember when it comes to MODOK: size and scale are relative. Everybody's butt is a quantum realm--a probability storm of anality.

Got out of seeing it just now, it was pretty fun. The second one is still my favorite but this was pretty enjoyable. The effects were a bit overwhelming, still I felt many of the alien designs were pretty imaginative.
Majors had a nice manic edge as Kang and I’m interested in seeing him cause more havoc. Wasn’t bothered by MODOK at all, the character’s always meant to be at least somewhat comedic.

Like I had some criticisms with Eternals and I felt Dr Strange 2 was just okay, but on a quality and competence level those are both light years ahead of something like Catwoman or Batman & Robin.
