Laugh-In definitely. They used to have edited reruns in the 80s, and I loved it despite not knowing what was going on.

It doesn’t quite fit the topic, but Nick at Nite was my introduction to many classic TV shows that adults watched. I stayed up late on Friday and Saturday night to watch Dragnet, Get Smart, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Taxi, F-Troop, and many others.

Hispanic Soap Operas. Some kind of leaned into child friendly, but ehh.. Golden Girls. Lots of sitcoms, All in the family, the munsters, the nick @ nite stuff that’s been mentioned. 20/20 Jerry springer, South Park, etc the 90s were full of ‘em.

Threes Company for sure. I would watch the reruns as a kid and liked it because of John Ritters physical comedy and the overall goofiness of the show.
When I got a few years older, I watched it again and understood all the sexual innuendo and was like "My parents let me watch this when I was 7?"

For a show with massive amounts of swearing and sexual innuendo, Bottom seemed very kid friendly. Probably because of the slapstick violence.

"X-Files", "The Outer Limits". Stuff like that. I remember some shows being packaged together as a sunday afternoon program. Among them was the excellent Canadian kids show "The Odyssey", but there was at least one other show with a distinct surreal atmosphere. Pretty sure it played in a town, but told stories of many different characters. I remember it not being kid friendly, but I sadly can't remember its name or any details. To the point I'm not even sure it existed.

I’m not a parent, but I don’t know if I’d want an eleven year old watching it for the reasons you’ve mentioned. That said, the next day everybody at school was talking about it, from the 11 year olds to the 16 year olds like me.

Three's Company, The Jeffersons, The Golden Girls, Married With Children, Sanford & Son were just some of the shows I would watch growing up.

Late Night with David Letterman.
Was like 8 or 9 or so when E! started showing the old episodes. I loved it. Not sure I “got” any of the jokes but I found it the funniest thing ever.

Dinosaurs (the 90s sitcom). This is the perfect answer for me. Sure, you could say it was a family show, but most of the writing was over a kid's head, and unlike a kid's show, there might be long stretches where I might find the content boring. However, it had a uniquely appeal based on the fact they were dinosaurs. I don't remember any swearing on the show, no do I remember many 'adult situations' from my viewing 30 years ago. There probably was, however most of the adult stuff I remember would be things that younger me just couldn't grasp. But I did make sure to get the toys from McDonald's.
