It was OK. It felt like it was written by people that didn't experience the 90s. The clothes, dialogue, and well the overall presentation of the characters felt like they were written by someone who either wasn't alive or was very little during that time period. Ok if the show is set in 95 I was 20 and 21 then. So far the show feels authentic for TV. I’m the exact same age. I’ve yet to watch the show (will probably watch sometime with the wife), but I find it hard to believe a show could actually get 1995 right, especially a sitcom. It’s hard to make rampant cynicism funny, at least not without stepping on some toes sitcoms avoid stepping on.

Clothing looks similar, hairdos are fairly decent for the time. And at least where I was living back then most people's homes still looked like it was 1978 on the inside. Olive green fridges and all that junk. Oh well. Enjoyed it. Hope it gets a second season. Now onto the new Night Court.

I was 16 in 95. With the exception of the music, the show misses the feeling of the 90s. I was 16 in 95 as well. I have not seen the show so I have no opinion of its accuracy. All I will say is the time period may feel very different based on your age at the time. The characters are 15-16.

The characters are 15-16. Interesting the specifically mentioned the year as 95. Thought they’d be vague about it like the Goldbergs or the original 70s show. The original show ended on New Year’s Eve 1979 so 95 makes sense for the age of the kids. But Donna and Eric are 38. Didn’t the show ended with them like 1 year out of high school? Also, that means They got married and pregnant right after the end of the last episode.

I watched the pilot. I found it to be a perfectly fine sitcom. It helps that I don't love the original series either. It was fine. This also seems fine.

They graduated at the end of season 5. Both took place in 1978. So everyone besides Jackie would be around 20 when the show ended in 1980. So if Eric and Donna got pregnant immediately then a 15 daughter could work but they should still be no older than 35.

I want to know what happened to the Eric replacement from the final season. Why do you think they aren't mentioning Hyde at all? 😂

I believe that resulted in continuity issues later. Everything had to take place between 1976 and Dec. 31, 1979, yet the show ran in real life for almost 8 full years.

1995 is a weird year in terms of what most people picture as “the ‘90s”, which is basically an extension of the 1980s with all the neon and loudness of the average Steiner family wrestling singlet. I feel like all that might have started phasing out of the zeitgeist by at least 1994.

So I finished the first episode. I enjoyed it. Nothing mind-blowing but fun. Although while watching the scene at the liquor store all I could think was "I'm almost positive that Twinkie's boxes did not look like that in the 90's". There's a scene in a later episode and there's a can of Pringles in the background and I'm like "That's the f***ing current can you lazy bums, not the 90s can". Better Call Saul's version of 7/11 circa 2000 was a war crime

Yes, which would cause issues if they tried doing, for example, Christmas episodes two seasons in a row in seasons that were set the same year. A Christmas episode in season 7 and in season 8 would mean Christmas 1979 happened twice. Shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and One Tree Hill had the same issue. On OTH, two years of high school lasted from autumn 2003 to spring 2007.

So watching episode eight. I'm only like two minutes in but Kitty said something that got to me. She said that if Red spent $4 for a can opener in 1975 he wants to be buried with it. Checking the inflation calculator that's nearly $12 in 1995 money and nearly $22 in 2022 money. That seems pretty damned expensive for a can opener. Or have I just been buying cheap, crappy can openers my entire life? Or was there some sort of can opener shortage in the 70's that I'm not aware of that caused their price to sky rocket?

Back in the day people paid more money for items but they were made to last. Or able to be repaired instead of replaced. Then corporations realized they could make more money with cheaper made to throw away products. Planned obsolescence. But one of the older and classic brands of can openers are Swing A Way. Goes for around $15 today. And they are nowhere near the quality they once were.

Just finished. It's okay. Nothing more nothing less. But it does feel weaker compared to other reboot/sequel series.

His name is still fez? I doesn’t make sense as an adult since it stands for Foreign Exchange Student. Also, why is not Fes?
