I think the show and moreso the characters got better as the season progressed and it felt like the idea was to establish everyone and then get into better storyline stuff for season 2

Wanted to take a day and let my thoughts settle, but I did watch it over Thursday, Friday and Saturday. My opinions, spoilered for those who haven't watched yet: {Spoiler}The good:
- The kid characters do get better as the season progresses. Leia becomes very rootable and Jay is instantly more likable than his dad. By the end, Gwen and Ozzie feel the least developed, while Nate and Nikki have layers to them I wasn't expecting going in.
- Red and Kitty are still enjoyable to watch.
- Red and Kitty actually parent Leia. Eric and his friends got away with murder. So it's nice to see that there are some consequences to Leia and her friends' actions.
- Keeping most of the old cast to cameos or one episode only appearances. With ONE glaring exception...
The bad:
- Too much Fez! I was fine with the one episode early on, but the dude has a subplot in the season finale. Dude, not your show anymore!
- Ozzie being a walking one-note joke. And the joke is basically, "he's gay!" Just... no.
The 90's:
OK, this is more a slight rant than a critique. This feels less like it's set in the 90's and more like someone said, "add 90's references to That 70's Show." The notable things that stood out to me:
- Batman Forever - dial-up internet - 90210 - daytime talk shows - Raquel Welch - Bill Clinton on Arsenio - Pagers - Karaoke
This is what I imagine most younger kids think the 90's were like. Just toss in a Power Rangers reference and a joke about SNL possibly getting cancelled and you're all set. But at the same time, they kept the basement hangout and the "circle" scenes. Granted, kids in the 90's were definitely doing drugs in their parents' basements in the 90's lol but they were doing harder drugs than pot. All in all, I did enjoy it. It's definitely not the most accurate time capsule of the 90's, but it was fun.

Made it about 5 minutes. It basically has to get better, because that was f***ing terrible.

Finally finished it off. I stand by my original assessment, it's nothing amazing but it's fun. It's like they ran Saved by the Bell and That 70's Show through a blender. And it reminded me how awesome a song "No Rain" is.

I started watching it full expecting to hate the kids, and only really watching it for the old head cameos, but by the end, yeah, I liked the kids a lot.

I finished it last night and it's a damn shame how short it was, it really feels like they figured out the new characters towards the end. I think a second season could really perfect this show, and also more episodes certainly would help.

I think it does highlight one problem with the Netflix model - a show is less likely to get that time to find its footing. Countless examples from broadcast TV where that was the case.

I think a second season could really perfect this show, and also more episodes certainly would help. I understand the hour-plus shows only getting 8-12 shows per season... but a 30 minute sitcom??? Give us 15-18 (or even the old standard of 22 or so) episodes, for crying out loud. I'm sure this will get another season of 8-10 episodes and then Netflix will cancel it.

Just started it and initial thoughts are:
The acting is solid, the old actors are seamlessly back into character, the kids aren't annoying, they seem like actual nice people.
I agree that this is less set in in the 90s than "insert 90s reference here"
The laugh track... was this actually in front of an audience with horrible sound mixing? Because the crowd sound like they used some old tapes from the 60s for the reactions.

I’m on ep six so far and I have some thoughts
I’m not one to complain about “laugh tracks”, especially when I know there’s an actual live studio audience, so I don’t understand why everyone things these types of shows use canned laughter, but that laughter during that 90210 skit sounded so fake. I refuse to believe people actually laughed, cheered, and hollered for that. Also, I haven’t seen that show in years but wasn’t Kelly the good one and Brenda the bitch? I may be confusing the actors with their roles, because jenny Garth is usually pretty sweet while Shannon Doherty was kind of a pain.
So far, I’m not feeling these kids except for Leia and the neighbor. the two kelso-eque guys seem redundant having top of them. The gay kid annoys me with his voice and sass and I don’t understand how he’s part of their circle considering the age and personality difference. Also, I can’t imagine him (or even leia) as stoners. That girlfriend, for some reason reminds me of John Cho in the smugness in the way she talks, and it really annoys me.
I was reading another thread about the show and someone hit the mail on the head. It kind of lacks a meanness that old show had. People compared Ozz to Jackie, and they worked because the rest of the group hated Jackie and roasted the hell out of her. Ain’t no one roasting the gay kid in 2020 produced show even though it’s supposed to be the 90s Wisconsin. There’s also not anyone for red to call a jackass and threaten to shove his foot on their ass. Can’t do it to any of the girls, not the gay kid, and the guys aren’t around enough
I saw a review refer to this show as Wholesome. That’s the last word I’d use to describe that 70s show.

Also, do the original cast ever run into each other? I’m actually wondering they’re supposed to still be friends with each other or they’re all just coincidentally still running into the formans. You’d think there would be some talk between Donna, Eric, Jackie, and Kelso about their kids dating. I mean, is Jackie Jay’s mom? Or step mom?
Oh, another thing that I completely forgot about, apparently Kelso had another kid back in the old show. Where’s that one?

Watched the show with my mom. I kind of liked it although I think That 70s was a bit better. Definitely is one where you just need to binge as characters get better as it goes on.

Finally watched the last episode
I gotta say, they played it smart making the first season a self co rained story over the summer. If got the Netflix cancel hammer, it could just exist as a one season special reunion
