I think literally the only wrestler podcasts I've ever listened to are the Punk and Moxley ones about them leaving and I feel like I'm probably way better off for that. The ones where Regal talks about his health are fascinating and horrifying. Iirc one was on Jericho's and one his own. Vince helped arrange and pay for Regal's surgery because there's only a handful of experts capable. Which is why the story of Punk getting in his face stands out. Vince has the moral high ground over Punk in this instance, Vince! And take Vince out of the situation, Punk doesn't think that Regal wouldn't talk shop with Triple H. Like Regal can't have a conversation with Hunter without talking about backstage stuff, and should break off being a friend of his. The same Hunter who Regal helped mentor, the same Hunter who's been close with Regal for decades, and has helped Regal out at his lowest points (substance abuse times). Regal ain't throwing away a 30 years or so friendship with a guy who's basically a brother to him. He thinks that Triple H would put his friend in that spot to betray AEW and other wrestlers he's friends with like Danielson and Moxley. |

The Elite made fun of the situation during their second match back because it was in Chicago and they knew they'd be heels. Punk dropped the "counterfeit Bucks" line during his return promo. I think they cancel each other out.
Since that match, the Elite have publicly done nothing.
Since his promo, Punk has publicly called out Hangman (again), and it's been proven that he had an altercation with Jack Perry and did something to make Tony Khan fearful. Rumors state he's also banned lots of people (including the HEAD OF TALENT RELATIONS) from a show.
This is not the same. This isn't event on the same planet. Stop blaming other people for Punk's actions. He's a 44-year old man that makes his own choices and can screw up his AEW career all on his own. The Elite could have been doing all sorts of shit backstage (there's no evidence they were) but it was still Punk's choice to get into it with Perry and approach Khan.
Take some f***ing responsibility, Punk. The world isn't out to get you, you're just an asshole.

The thing with Elite vs. Punk for me is that it always comes down to Occam's Razor and what involves the least assumptions.
With the former you have to consistently assume that the former have not only worked against Punk, but did so without the rest of the AEW roster noticing and/or caring on top of journalists not getting any hard evidence of such happenings.
With the latter you simply have to assume that someone that's displayed clear trust issues and lack of emotional control even outside the context of AEW is potentially paranoid and irrational.
In that sense, the second scenario does strike me as a bit more likely than the first.

I'm going to lock it, because once again it's just going in circles and people are starting to act like dicks to each other again. Punk was fired for 12 months of repeatedly being a dick, Jack Perry is currently suspended for his stupidity. the initial fallout has been discussed to the point of going full Fox Mulder investigate every tiny detail to prove/disprove conspiracy theories. |
