Right now I'm feeling like 60% Cody, 20% Sami, 15% Rock/Austin if they appear and 5% someone else like a Rollins or Drew. I reckon Cody and Sami might be the final 2,and Sami gets kicked out of the bloodline for "failing" If Sami's even in the Rumble (seriously, neither Sami/Usos/Solo have been announced and it's likely their only involvement on the PPV is during the Roman/KO match) and he's not winning it then he shouldn't be making it to the final 4. Do whatever angle with him in the early/middle part of the match. You don't want a popular babyface having to eliminate another popular babyface when you can easily use a heel to get good heat for it. That was one of the many problems with last years match. It was in St. Louis so Randy Orton was the big hometown hero, he comes out at 29 to a huge reaction then Brock comes out 2 minutes later and throws him out like nothing. The crowd who had been cheering Brock were like huh and got deflated. You could easily have had a heel eliminate Orton to get the boos then Brock eliminates that heel to pop the crowd. They tried this in the 2015 royal rumble with Bryan where he was knocked out early by Wyatt and it ended up derailing the whole rumble. I agree with this idea generally, but there are times it wont work because people are dead-set on 1 person winning and literally nothing they do can stop it. I don't think they're there with Zayn yet but there are definitely some parallels between this and Bryan's run, only with a more liked person playing the other potential winner in Rhodes. Anyone think there's potential for a Bret/Luger situation here where Zayn gets night 1 and Cody gets night 2 (maybe faces Rollins during night 1)? Been something I've been thinking about lately. Could be a good way to break up the titles and keep everyone invested in Cody and Zayn happy.

I just can't see how you can have watched the entire Sami saga and not want it to be him. He's that guy.

You can use a lot of the Rumble to tell the story of Zayn taking the chance and tying with Cody and honestly, both men are more than capable of pulling it off.

I just can't see how you can have watched the entire Sami saga and not want it to be him. He's that guy. I mean I've watched the whole thing and I don't want it to be him. Not because I don't love Sami, I like him more than Cody, but because the story that's resonated the most with me is mostly the Sami/Jey element. He was Sami Uso, not Sami Reigns. Sami and Jey hugging is what got the big holy shit pop at Survivor Series, not Sami and Roman. Jey was the key person in the segment on Monday. Roman has been a background character for a lot of this story. 90% of the time they appear on Raw and half the time on Smackdown Roman hasn't even been there. Sami/Jey/Jimmy then eventually Solo/Owens are the ones carrying this on a week to week basis. After the past year Jey betraying Sami will be more of a heartbreaking moment than Roman for me. I think maybe Roman/Solo kick out Sami next week but the Usos are conflicted and want no part of it. Maybe EC is Sami w/Jey v Roman w/Solo (pretty sure Jimmy isn't allowed into Canada) and Jey screws Sami out of the title, either because of more gaslighting from Roman or it was the plan all along to mess with Sami's head and the trial was all an act they put together, then KO comes out to save Sami. If Sami wins the Rumble I won't be against the idea. It'll be a great moment. It's just not my first choice for the Wrestlemania card (Sami/KO v Usos and Roman v Cody) and I don't think it's fair to say the story is all about Sami and Roman. To me it's mostly been about Sami and Jey first and foremost.

Plus, what is the "story" of Roman vs. Cody? Honestly, a wrestler catching an injury 6-9 months out from the Royal Rumble is the luckiest break you can catch. It builds all this anticipation without having to do any of the work.

Roman’s downfall being anything other than a single, definitive loss in the final match of ´Mania seems to be the opposite of what they’ve been booking over the last 2+ years. Giving him the out of defending both titles, both nights risks him looking semi-sympathetic and inevitably end up making one challenger look like a bit of a spare bollix. I’ve no doubt the talent involved could navigate the obstacles, but why complicate what should be a simple dethroning?

Team Hell No v Rowan/Harper would have been a complete midcard 8-12 minute match that barely anyone remembered. Usos v Sami/KO is a potentially classic match with tons of build and would be one of the biggest matches at Wrestlemania, maybe even main eventing night 1. Sami and KO winning and finally becoming tag champs would be an amazing moment, both in kayfabe for ending this historic Uso run and for them in reality being best friends. You know those matches are nothing alike because fans would have shit all over that match/feud for Bryan and accepted nothing less than him overcoming the Authority while I'm willing to bet anything you want fans won't turn on Usos/Sami/KO and see it as some crappy midcard thing. People are super invested in everything they do. If they tried to suddenly move Sami into a random US title match or something I'd agree but as long as they keep him with the Usos and KO that story is hot enough that it will be a major deal.

It builds all this anticipation without having to do any of the work. Having Sami in the tag title match would have been like Daniel Bryan teaming with Kane to face Rowan and Harper at Wrestlemania 30. Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan aren't good comparisons. Bryan going on the win the Rumble and face the Authority's handpicked champion was how the story SHOULD have gone. Remember he was screwed out of the belt a few months prior, so his getting a guaranteed title shot that the Authority couldn't do anything about would have been such simple writing. The fact they f***ed that up by having Batista come back and win, which NO-ONE wanted, was a testament to WWE's (at the time) bad faith to their fans. Even the night after with Triple H being like "is someone unhappy they didn't get what they wanted," was stupid because Batista was supposed to be the conquering hero, but he was also friends with Triple H and Triple H was defending him with that sentence. It was just every confusing, very bad TV. They got there in the end with Bryan main eventing WrestleMania, but the those few months was terrible. Sami Zayn is different because Sami isn't the conquering hero, he hasn't been screwed by Roman Reigns, his storyline is more with the Uso's. In fact, Roman was the one who was most accepting of him, it was Jey who didn't trust him for a few months. And now they have Kevin Owens involved, who is canonically one of Zayn's best friends, it makes sense that Zayn and Owens will eventually team up and try to take the tag titles, but the Uso's have not only held them hostage for months but have made the belts more important in a couple years. Anyone who beat's the Uso's for the belt is should be a big moment, and what bigger moment that having Sami Zayn beating the evil Uso's for the belt with his best friend by his side.

I kind of liken it to if after the slow story of Savage and Hogan for a year leading up to Mania 5, they then do Hogan vs. Big Boss Man instead and Savage faces someone else.

No 1 contenders match (finals of a tournament, 3-way between the remaining members of the rumble's final four or my favorite of rumble iron man v most eliminations). Night two: Roman v winner of No 1 contenders match. Kayfabe fair to Roman as his night two opponent has had the same amount of rest.

People keep saying “it’s a downgrade to put Sami with the tag titles, this company’s treated them like trash”. ..whilst they’ve done a remarkable job of elevating both the Usos and the titles and have an opportunity here to showcase the tag titles on a sincere Main Event level at WM, which is unprecedented..like..that’s progress. That’s how you start making the titles not have a bad connotation. Kind of, sort of, yeah. Plus everything else: Cody being clear he wants it because his father never won it and 70% of Cody’s character is legacy/family/tears. Plus the whole “ prodigal son” shtick with coming back to WWE after his character prior to that was “outcasted himself from said company, helped lit a revolution and arguably lit the match that initiated WWE having its first “legitimate” competition in 2 decades by taking Dave’s bet”. Oh and he had mentioned he started thinking about leaving AEW ‘round the time of the Rumble cause he’s got some Royal rumble stats or something lol AND the f***ing injury and tear that he “fought through” which has delayed the apparent inevitable coronation/redemption story. There’s a ridiculous story there that works on multiple levels.

The thing is, the tag title are only being treated like a big deal right now, because they're quasi-associated with Roman, and everything he's got a finger in has to look like a big deal. Take that association away? The tag titles are back on the PPV pre-shows in 3 months, tops. WWE does not give a shit about tag teams in the modern day.

true, but vince is well known for throwing out plans for shows on a whim because of reasons like the T-rex skull in his office looked at him funny when del rio gave him some of his personal stash. i'd love to say it's internet lore vince changes his mind on show plans as multiple wrestlers & show writers have said it in the past. If you'll allow frivolity for a moment, if a T-Rex looked funny at me, I'd change all my plans in a hurry. Unless those plans were "don't get eaten". Vince does a booking plan that Rex doesn't like Vince oo ook Rex...Whatever you say pal...I promise I won't book Roman to win the Rumble AND retain his belts...Yes, yes and I promise not to make Sonya fart in every segment like with Natalya back in the day...

As for the thread question, there is a chance it won't be Cody as I still think Sami is a strong candidate, maybe Seth as well but I don't see him winning this year. If Rock appears in the Rumble itself than I think he'll definitely not win it.

I have already said this but Sami winning just screws up alot of things and leave alot of people in kind of limbo.
Sami winning well there goes KO going for the tag titles against the Uso's despite being securely teathered to Sami and the Bloodline story as much as the others are , so what do you do with him? and the Uso's are gonna do what exactly? fight profits again? because they aint no other teams they have not already run through.
Cody's corination well that gets iced so what to do with him?
Keeping Sami out of the rumble via Roman ordering him not to enter (thus negating any backlash) and Cody winning is IMO the correct and right move.
