Cody cut that initial promo outlining why he was back and it was ultra compelling and infinitely more than just I've been gone a long time. I say this as somebody who's not a huge fan of Cody at all. He should be the one to win it and dethrone Reigns, he's a pure babyface it makes all the sense in the world. Zayn/Owens would make excellent tag team champs and pay off the Uso story perfectly. Again, "My dad didn't win it, so I want to" isn't a story. Zayn's story builds organically up to him stepping up to Roman, and not having to settle for the....f***, the tag team championship isn't even "silver" medal, it's like....the tin medal, in the WWE? Literally every big story beat with Sami involves the Usos more than Roman

I hate that I'm having to defend Cody to this extent. The story writes itself. Cody wants to fulfill a dream and after every feud Roman is always like, "there's nobody left!".

Roman is the final boss.

I think both Cody and Sami would be great winners from a storytelling perspective — Sami toppling the Bloodline from the inside out, Cody going from "undesirable to undeniable" and finally winning the big one his daddeh and bro never could.
That said, I think Cody is a better option, precisely because the Usos being dethroned SHOULD be a big moment as well, and Cody winning the Rumble frees up KO and Sami to continue their story and finally win their first WWE tag titles together. I love Sami, and I might actually cry if he wins, but you're leaving KO, Cody and the Usos to twist in the wind.

I think on this we're going to have to agree to disagree on the definition of a story I suppose. Regardless of whether you think it's a story or not, he's massively over and the crowd eats out of his hand. It all aligns.

Or, he’ll do it on his own because he hasn’t trusted or jived with Sami from day one. It’s very easy to do. Usos vs Sami and KO could easily main event mania night one and be the first tag title match to main event a mania. Big shit. That’s not some demotion consolation prize. That’s a huge main event spot

Jey could easily go like “I never really liked you, you stupid Canadian!” and betray Sami.

I'm not saying they couldn't make it work somehow, but at this point in the story, I'm not sure I see a way of having Jey betray Sami without Roman being involved that wouldn't be a massive backpedal. The way it's presented, the whole "I didn't like you, but now I do after you've genuinely helped us" beat was resolved at Survivor Series and at Raw XXX.
I dunno, the more I see of this, the more it feels like they're booking themselves into a corner if the endgame isn't Roman.

It’s very easy to do. I'm pretty sure it's going to be revealed that they staged the whole trial thing, including Jey's part, to further gaslight Sami. Deep down they might not like him but they're willing to keep him around if he's helping them win. As soon as he becomes a problem though, he's dead to them. And we're reaching that point. A few weeks ago he caused Roman to lose his first match in 1-2 years. Last night he caused Solo to be DQ'd which I think is his first defeat. He'll probably do something else tonight to piss them off which will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. If the turn doesn't happen tonight I think it happens no later than Smackdown. EC is only 3 weeks away so if they're really doing Roman/Sami then shit has to hit the fan in the next 6 days.

You could make the argument for either one of Cody or Sami winning the Rumble. Either one of those guys challenging Roman for the title would make for a great story going into Wrestlemania because the story is already there for them both.
Although I'd prefer to have Sami win it, I'm good with Cody winning it. Anyone else winning it would be very disappointing.

Sami/Bloodline is the Jericho/KO type storyline of the year.
Anyone but Sami winning will be anticlimactic for me.
