I get updating things and not republishing single issues or selected collection but if you are going to make a full collection that's usually at a level where people should be told of the historic context and are at an age where if they are interested in an expensive collection they should be able to make a smart reaction to reading or seeing it from the time it was. If Warner Brothers puts out a full Looney Tunes/ Merry Melodies collection put everything on it. Maybe put the censored 11 on a separate disc and have context so if you just put it on for a kid its harder for them to just marathon it.

When is Hulu going to put the banned episodes of It's Always Sunny back up?!

People won't like it either, but could they redraw Bombie? The short answer to that is “yes.” Disney owns Life and Times of Scrooge (Lo$) outright. They can do literally anything they want with it…up to and including editing the story to remove the character entirely. Altering the character (maybe to look more like the 2017 version) would probably upset a whole lot of people, but it’d probably also get a whole lot of other people to buy the updated edition. I’ve heard that (especially in Europe) speculators are buying up tons of copies of the existing collections. So, I guess if you want a physical version, get it soon or you may have to deal with inflated prices for awhile.

From the looks of it, just make him green and maybe alter some features and it'd be fine

I did buy the collection... I know Its a thing where I meant to buy it but do it now to read it. I do think it won't inflate the price so much as its been around for years. I mean in a short term bubble yeah but be patient

From the looks of it, just make him green and maybe alter some features and it'd be fine Funny...I was just thinking of reissues of the first Incredible Hulk, where they do just that to the titular character (who was originally gray of course). So it's not unprecedented.

So it's not unprecedented. If the alternative is to not have the story at all, seems a good compromise. He's a zombie, just make him more monstrous.

Makes me wonder...is the original Carl Barks story, "Voodoo Hoodoo", that Don Rosa's stories reference also subject to this (since it is the story where Bombie originated)?

Banning sounds harsher than what they're doing in just not re-publishing them anymore. Still lame? Yeah kinda, but if there was a recent re-release with them in it, just get that one Yeah, "ban" is a really loaded term for what this is.

From the looks of it, just make him green and maybe alter some features and it'd be fine The idea of a company basically rewriting their own history to make it less problematic makes me deeply uncomfortable. Yeah, they did dumb things in the past. Now, they're one of the entertainment industry leaders in diversity and inclusion. Should own their past and use it as example of the changing of times.

Are they rewriting their history? Did they issue a recall for all existing copies of the books in question? Are they denying ever having published them? Not republishing a book in a problematic form is not rewriting history, no more than the reprints of Transformers comics without Spider-man, Circuit Breaker or other Marvel owned characters is. The history is out there, it's not gone, nobody has lost out by their reprints not being a thing and the vast majority of people upset by it probably wouldn't have bought them anyway, or would have used them as proof that Disney isn't 'woke' to push an agenda.

Are they rewriting their history? If they redo the story to remove something that is problematic decades after the fact, yes.

Wouldnt they have to clear any recolorings or redrawings with Rosa first? Of course, they could just have Rosa himself do the rework.

You would think this Bombie was walking around Disney World hugging the kids the way people react to him.

Wouldnt they have to clear any recolorings or redrawings with Rosa first? Of course, they could just have Rosa himself do the rework. They wouldn’t need Don Rosa’s permission. Disney owns his published work outright. Disney could ask Rosa to rework the character, but that seems unlikely for several reasons. Don can’t draw like he used to because of a vision problem. He doesn’t have the best working relationship with The Mouse to begin with. And altering the character’s appearance from what Carl Barks created would be all-but unthinkable given every single public statement Rosa has ever made on the subject. I wonder if Disney’s people are upset with Rosa for revealing this. Things do go out of print. Hell, LO$ was out of print several times over the last 20-or-so years. Few people would have even noticed until years down the line. I mean, there’s nothing (as far as I know) saying that the currently available collections *are* going out of print at all. The message just said “future collections.” Since LO$ is already being published in several “perfect” editions, there’s no pressing need for any new editions to be scheduled in the first place.
