I think that, collectively, we probably need to take about 30 steps back and recognize the fact that we're voluntarily coming onto an anonymous online forum to discuss scripted fisticuffs. This is a niche of a niche of a niche, and it's not that serious.
Obviously, I don't think that a niche discussion board is really a good place to be if you don't want to discuss that niche. While recognizing that because the subject matter of this board is so niche, there are going to be some people around who are really passionate about defending it. Certain people scrutinizing every single post that is critical of AEW (or WWE, as the case may be) is annoying, to be certain, but it's kind of to be expected in an environment like this.
If it gets to a point where people disagreeing with you starts to cause you actual, real-life anguish, then I think that taking a break from the forum is probably the answer. I definitely had that experience on Reddit discussing wrestling, so I came here. At the end of the day, there's like maybe 50 regular posters here, and most all of them seem like pretty chill people. It's crazy to me that this thread is still ongoing because, seriously, things aren't that bad here.
To put it another way, unless you're a professional wrestler yourself, this is just a hobby, man.
Hobbies are meant to be fun and enjoyable and give us space to enjoy trivialities in a world that can be otherwise pretty brutal.
What absolutely blows my mind is that at its worst, it's more mean-spirited and snipe-y than sports rivalries. Hell, I have friends in real life that are die-hard fans of teams I absolutely despise and WE GO TO GAMES TOGETHER. We talk trash about how bad the other team is playing or even about how bad our own is playing, and we use a lot of negative language when describing how bad it gets because there's an understanding that it's Just. A f***ing. Game. We chuckle and smirk through the whole thing.
Well, this is just. professional. wrestling. Arguably something even more silly than sports, because at least with sports there's actual competition. I get being passionate about something you love, but take a step back a little.
