This is kind of an off-shoot from highlights (hope you are well, brother) thread. But it's also something that's been nagging at me for a lil while now. This thread isn't intended to call any one side or any individuals out, and I do not want it going in that direction. This is more of a board intervention and (I'm hoping) civil roundtable discussion, and (even more hopefully) maybe it can help to improve the overall vibe here.
It's no secret that things are very tense here. There seems to be a huge clash between two groups: one who are very pro-AEW and see this board as their home here, and another more casual (I guess?) group that feel unwelcome here due to the at times more passionate nature of the former. I'm going to give everyone who posts here the benefit of the doubt that we all are interested in AEW to some degree, but it's clear that the varying of that degree is the root-cause of the discourse here.
So I ask members of both sides this: Without pointing fingers at anyone, what can be done to clear the air here?
I guess for me, I want people to feel like they can post their opinion so long as it's not antagonistic (to posters that is) without fear of the dreaded "x quoted you" notification. It should be okay to provide the odd counter-point, but it doesn't need to happen for every post in a thread. Let opinions breathe. You may feel differently, either good or bad, from how someone felt about a match or segment. That's okay. Let's stop back-and-forth opinion clashes, basically.
Now it's everyone else's turn. But please remember, no calling-out or posting in a way that's intended for likes from one side.

I think you summed it up pretty well tbh. I don't mind the odd back and forth but when it can end up as every second post getting debated it's a bit stifling.

I think what can be done is right there in your post. If a poster or posters counterpoint over and over every post that’s respectfully critical of AEW, then that can be exhausting for people that just want to throw their opinion out there. I know I sometimes get flack or have gotten flack in the past for defending WWE and I try not to get caught in that same pattern because I know it detracts from the site.

I think people need to know when to step back (and this is as much self-aware as for others).
I've also noticed I get dragged into a lot less back and forths since I turned off notifications for quoted posts. It isn't a perfect solution, but it works since I feel a lot less compelled to get into quote wall replies if the notifications page isn't telling me about them.

Honestly, as a relatively neutral third-party observer who only just joined this forum recently, I think things are far tamer here than they are on other parts of the internet.
This place is pretty chill, and most of the discourse (about WWE and AEW) is pretty reasonable. There does seem to be a crew of bad faith posters who only seem to show upon the AEW board to try and stir the pot and rile people up when something questionable happens on Dynamite but, by and large, the "regulars" on this board are respectful in their commentary.
This is a discussion board, so I think its entire purpose is to have "back and forth opinion clashes." That's not really the issue, in my opinion. I don't think any of us would be spending time on a wrestling discussion board if we didn't want to discuss wrestling and, potentially, defend our opinions. I don't even think it's an issue when certain posters seem to constantly come to AEW's defense. Because, again, that feels like it's the very purpose of a discussion forum, particularly one that is explicitly for AEW-related discussion.
The issues only arise when people start with personal attacks, or when people lose sight of the fact that opinions are subjective. That's what we really need to avoid. But, quite frankly, I enjoy posting here because there's FAR less of that here than on places like r/squaredcircle, for example. I'm newish here, but it does seem to me like some of this notion that the AEW board is toxic or unwelcoming to contrary opinions is overblown.

I am in a slightly similar boat to you in that I don't post very often here. However, I have been a member for a little while now and I do follow the threads. This place has always seemed like the most tame wrestling discussion board that I have been apart of. There is another well known forum that I was a part of previously that is a hell hole when it comes to AEW discussion.

Big ones for me are:
1. If someone has stated their opinion based in their preferences, don't treat it as something to refute with facts and reasons and numbers. Someone said they don't like something, based on what they want out of the show. Explaining it doesn't change that.
2. Take notice of how many people are actually arguing a point. Is it really the whole board or is it one stubborn person?
3. Remember that live-watch brain can make something bad feel worse than it is if you just keep engaging with it to make as many forum posts about it as possible.
4. Remember that a bad angle isn't the end of the world. It can just be something dumb that you can roll your eyes at.
5. Remember that AEW's success is Tony Khan's job, not the fandom's.
These have been my thought processes for stopping myself from getting into stupid arguments. (I don't always succeed, mind! But these are my methods.)

Not exclusive to the AEW board but I really wish we'd stop with the pre-emptive/passive aggressive "oh, CERTAIN people will love/hate this" type comments.
Then someone will inevitably ask who and the reply is always "oh it doesn't happen here we're all cool but on Twitter etc." If it doesn't happen here then why are you derailing a thread with that kind of talk. If you want to engage with those people why not go and do it on those platforms. There's no need to bring their toxicity here. There's no need to even mention them at all but I notice it happens a lot.

The negative hyperbole bait posts
I feel like if some users didn't make it a point to almost dig at people who like the company with hot takes or dripping cynicism whether that is about an AEW Star or Storyline or their push or lack there of, that people would be less likely to respond in defense of a casual critique
This has improved a bit from when it was really rampant, especially around people like Adam Cole, but stuff like the women's division especially gets a ton of flack, scrutiny and judgment here it doesn't really get anywhere else, and it makes it incredibly difficult to discuss here in a normal manner, though I can at least say it's improved from the days where it was... like the most toxic topic on these boards at one point.
I feel like this was rampant in the Ratings Threads for a long time too, and they can still get a bit testy depending on AEW's numbers that week.
I just feel like people can get their opinions across in much more civil manners, less bait, less pegging someone as a troll or a hater for simple criticisms, I think this board suffered for awhile from toxic users looking for a rise, and we're still dealing with the aftermath of that.

So far, so good!

Someone said they don't like something, based on what they want out of the show. Explaining it doesn't change that. I feel like I observe this pretty often. People are allowed to not like stuff, it doesn't always need to turn into a discussion/argument. I guess I could point to what I'm gonna call "Healthy Discussion" vs. "Unhealthy Discussion" Healthy Discussion: Person A: "That match sucked" Person B: "It sucked? I thought it was pretty good! What didn't you like about it?" Unhealthy Discussion Person A: "That match sucked" Person B: "WELL THE LIVE CROWD LOVED IT AND IT GOT FIVE STARS AND IT WAS THE HIGHEST RATED TELEVISION SEGMENT IN HISTORY AND IT'S ALL PART OF AN ANGLE THAT'S BUILDING TOWARDS A BIGGER STORY THAN JUST THIS AND ALSO-" Like dude...they didn't like it. You did. Whatever. You don't have to try to disprove their opinion with facts lmao

So far, so good! If that's the case, I would like to just see more discussions that are more upbeat, even if there are disagreements, it doesn't have to devolve into something scathing or personal, it can just be fun discussions about the sport we love, rasslin I definitely think more match or wrestler appreciation threads would be cool. I try and contribute to those when I can. Match/Storyline highlights from DARK getting their own threads would be huge because a lot of people here just don't watch full DARKs, or DARK at all.

If you've posted more than four times in a thread in a 12 hour period - really ask yourself whether you need to go back and post again. Everyone reading knows your opinion now.
Always remember that the running count for 'times people have changed their minds after arguing on the internet' still stands at 0.

This certainly isn't anything I'd like to see regulated, or anything, but the thing that kills me is the seemingly constant commentary about how everything's terrible, every discussion is either toxic or just about to turn toxic, and how annoyed and frustrated we all are about it. I legit would rarely feel any negative emotions posting in the AEW section if it didn't feel like there were people out there telling me that feeling bad is the reasonable and universal thing here.
(this thread, with its focus on active solutions, definitely does not count for what I'm talking about here.)

Two things:
Re: negativity
AEW isn't perfect. Being negative about things is fine and should never be discouraged. But if all you have to say about AEW is negative, then maybe AEW just isn't for you. And that's fine! No promotion is for everyone. I rarely post in the WWE forum these days because WWE is no longer for me and I'd only be negative there.
Re: positivity
Defending what you like is great. Being positive about things is great. But most of the time, people's criticism of something isn't rooted in bias or not understanding the story. It's simply that they don't like it and it isn't to their tastes. Being relentlessly positive in direct response to someone being critical isn't going to get anyone anywhere but frustrated.
That's my (hopefully) constructive criticism.
