They’ve always been awful, but I’ve enjoyed watching fans turn on The Young Turks. Whether it be self proclaimed super progressive Chenk fighting to keep his staff from unionizing or Ana getting yelled at for having the audacity to say she didn’t like getting attacked by a homeless man, I’ll watch.

Shout out to whoever this Colleen Ballinger person is responding to credible grooming accusations by playing a ukulele for ten minutes. No idea who this person is but that response is so bad I've heard about it. She has a cameo in Wreck it Ralph 2 as her character MirandaSings, which is now becoming maybe the worst aging Disney cameo of all time.  As if Wreck it Ralph 2 didn't have enough problems by itself. |

Not to get into the politics of it all here, but Ana's said much worse in recent times. I had a very, very, very brief moment checking out The Young Turks (the real life Young Turks were reformers in 19th century Turkey who also played a huge part in carrying out the Armenian genocide, these are...not that) around 12-13 years ago, but the whole "I think this might mostly be a big grift" odor struck me almost immediately and I backed away. That whole DJMuel story, yeah, I saw that one, too. Dude went after a political streamer who, admittedly, is kind of a dick, but rather than focus on that he decided that said streamer was wrong to cut off his ex-girlfriend...who'd been emotionally abusing him and stealing money from him. Basically suggested the guy should've had make-up sex with his abuser, which, let's face it, if Muel had said it about a woman who'd cut a man out of her life, ye gods. Not to dive too deep into specific politics, but man, you wonder why certain political groups online can't get real life advocacy and activism done? It's because they're too obsessed with in-fighting, drama, purity testing, and basically living out the parts of high school life they might've been too nerdy for 5, 10, or in some cases even 20 years ago. Goes back to the Lindsey Ellis situation; the people who targeted her were nominally people she was on the side of (albeit likely spurred on by political opponents using things like bots or burner accounts), but who live for drama and "you're not doing it right!" instead of actually accomplishing anything, because they're terminally online-brained. Cenk and Ana have been insufferable for a long while now and it was delightful seeing Cenk discover his particular brand of pompous, arrogant blowhardery isn't a selling point in the real world. For a good while they were the worst people you know making good points, now the good points are getting fewer and further between and the bad takes are getting worse.
There's a reason folks in their general online space view Sam Seder as senpai and nobody really wants to be Cenk.

Like the ukulele lady flat out stated that her people told her not to do it, but she did it anyway.

All I’ll say about the group in question is; my biggest issue is the general sense of paranoia and negativity they try to funnel to such a young audience.
And I could also say the same about all sort of dipheads online with a wide variety of messed up beliefs.

I agree. There's some vicious comments about him online, but I genuinely cannot understand why he's so hated. I see people giving him total hell for balding or not having enough time for the things they want because he devotes that time to his family. I guess I'm old fashioned, but to me, that makes him more likable. The worst comments have to do with him being in special ed or the difficulties his daughter had. The dude's biggest controversy was the Ghostbusters thing, and that was absolutely overblown. I'm not even a big AVGN fan, but when comparing him to other YouTubers, he's harmless. I think people just deep down really want another Spoony style implosion and for James to go out in a way that's entertaining for them to watch. I don't know why I clicked on this thread, as I don't know anything about YouTubers, but seeing the name Spoony suddenly reminded me that I used to quite enjoy him ranting about TNA. Genuinely haven't thought of him in 10+ years. Looked it up and it seems like he's had a rough time to say the least. |

I don't know why I clicked on this thread, as I don't know anything about YouTubers, but seeing the name Spoony suddenly reminded me that I used to quite enjoy him ranting about TNA. Genuinely haven't thought of him in 10+ years. Looked it up and it seems like he's had a rough time to say the least. Yeah it's been some serious dark times for him. He seems like he's trying to turn things around these days, but I doubt he's ever going to return to being a YouTuber. His style of caustic asshole critic is very passe and it seemed to make him into the worst version of himself. Genuinely hopeful he's in a better place. |

Among other things, his utterly toxic Twitter account where he has said stuff so viciously hateful towards anyone tho doesn’t vote or act exactly like him, unable to take any criticism from anyone unless it’s a person who is politically on his side, since he seems like he desperately wants to be loved by his fellow far lefties and be seen as “one of the good ones.” Being woke to the point of parody yet also saying some very sleazy stuff, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
His Patreon has lost almost half of its monthly revenue and bleeds money every month, and Lindsay Ellis had to tell him to back off when he kept trying to make it seem like the two of them were friends.

My only memory of him was his Super Mario 3. book and how on at least one blog post that ripped it apart, he wandered into the comment section to post a link to it as if no one on the internet knew how to use a search engine. The book was weird and based on that I assumed he took himself way too seriously. |
