Cody at Summerslam 2023, 30 years later after Luger did it too!

Look at how New Japan did Sanada's ascension to becoming World Champion. It's the complete opposite of what is going on here.

I’m still on a bit of a break but the response here is interesting. Seems other places liked the promo. I still don’t trust the company to do right by him either way at this point. It wasn't a good promo, like not at all, even the crowd at the show who was totally into him at the start just sorta died as it went on.

That was an AEW Cody promo for better or worse.

That was an AEW Cody promo for better or worse. It's kinda crazy how different Cody promos are from when the dude has an obvious direction and purpose versus when shit has gone south and he's losing it Because tonight's promo felt like the peak Codyverse where he had lost the plot, and missed his window, and he was just saying a whole bunch of nonsense out of his mouth The big difference is the crowds in WWE haven't turned on him... but boy did that crowd fade the longer he went on about losing to Roman and being scared of Lesnar...

Cody isn't mad at all that he was screwed out of the title in the main event of Wrestlemania. Now he wants a match against Brock at Backlash instead of wanting a rematch. Look how they have massacred Cody.

I’m just waiting for a segment like
Brandi: Paul Heyman your client may be the Tribal Chief but I’m the Tribal BITCH
And then she slaps him and everyone boos

Didn't Cody acknowledge that he did, in fact, want a rematch, but was told (by Heyman) that if he wanted one, he'd have to earn it - which Cody called ridiculous? And then acknowledged that the path to "earning" it had a Brock-shaped obstacle on it, which is why he challenged Beasty Boy to a match at Backlash?

Nobody pays attention when there are jokes to be made.

Surprising to see posters that loved and defended the Codyverse promos be so down on this.

Surprising to see posters that loved and defended the Codyverse promos be so down on this. A lot of people defended Cody's stuff in AEW for awhile because the general feeling was "this is all in service of a bigger story; Cody's becoming a delusional babyface who'll eventually snap under the weight of his own perceived self-sacrifice and become the biggest heel in the company. I mean, look at him, dude's dressed like Homelander, for God's sake." Then it turned out, uh...no, that was never the plan. Once that became clear, people's feelings about the whole thing shifted quite a bit.

Once that became clear, people's feelings about the whole thing shifted quite a bit. Yeah, when the story became “Is he going to turn heel? No, he’s got too many morals to do so” and the people he was feuding with trying and failing to break him in that regard continuously, that was when it became a tonne less interesting. It was very much like Cena’s feud with Bray but super stretched out.

Haha yeah he clearly laid out that he did want a rematch and that he scoffed at having to earn it. There’s some straw grasping going on to try to desperately prove that Cody is going to fail and lose his overness now

So is it an overreaction to think this dropped ball and subsequent bitchifying could be on the ballot for Wrestlecrap 2023?

So is it an overreaction to think this dropped ball and subsequent bitchifying could be on the ballot for Wrestlecrap 2023? Eh. I think there's still enough time for a lot of stuff to either change or beat it to be there yet. I mean, it could, but it being WWE, there's enough time for them.
