It just feels weird this is just the story now. Like, I get the logic of Night 1 to Night 2 from a finance sense (Rock's in a tag, two big champions in the tag to then have something for their night 2 matches etc) but thematically, it's sort of surreal how quickly we went from "Finishing the story" to "Rock's the true head of the table" to "Rock's just with The Bloodline now because he's fed up of Cody and I guess all of that is fine now?" Like, this is the biggest match going into this year's WrestleMania and the two main points so far are "Cody flip flopped for no good reason" and "Roman the character may or may not be transphobic". Oh and "FOX is pretty done with Smackdown's bullshit" but that's a narrative since, like, 2019. The Rock / Roman story is not that all is fine now, they’re creating an undercurrent of tension between them. They also did have Cody explain his flip flopping. There’s also still 8 more episodes of TV before Mania so we’ll surely get some more “finishing the story” type build at some point (especially when Rock is absent).

The problem with how WrestleMania XL is booked is that WWE can't really get to discussing Cody-Roman without first having the Night 1 main event. Like, yeah, they can have face-offs and talk about the match they're going to have, but there's still a major undercurrent of whether the match will be a one-on-one contest or whether The Bloodline will have free reign to do whatever they want to Cody. So they can't really "build" to Sunday's main event without first getting through Saturday and whatever the result of that match is. You could if nothing else have Cody start trying to needle at Roman about it, try to get in his head. Try and press him on why if he's such a great champion he thinks he needs the Bloodline stipulation to have a chance, really hammer in how dependent he is on others. Which would also put over Roman getting increasingly paranoid about Rock overshadowing him. Cody’s the type of guy who’d certainly do a good promo calling out how Roman seems more like a follower in the Rock’s presence than the tribal chief.

Yeah this really should have been a triple threat.
Cody vs the world over coming all the odds. Finishing the story. Rock can play both sides. I get the parallels with it with 20, 30, and in someways 10. But i I think it would have been the right call.
Putting Rock just in the tag match kinda takes the focus off finishing the story the next night.

Dusty died almost nine years ago. Cody needs to move on. Geeeeeeezze.
Like I get it, but he mentions it like every week for the last year and a half.

Rock dropped another promo. It's not 21 minutes, but it's some awesome f***ing old school heel stuff. Makes me wonder if Rock/Cody might happen at SummerSlam regardless of the Mania outcome.

The Rock’s set to go away for a couple of months starting in May to film a movie, so unless cuts that short for August, not sure if he makes it to Summerslam.

Rock’s reaction to Cody crying was great. Exactly how old school heel Rock would have done it. I don’t think the crowd will turn on Cody but heel Rock is going to get cheered (as he has been already for the most part).

Its one of the big ironies, if he tries to go forward as a face inserting himself, thunderous Boos As soon as its clear he's meant to be a heel, the charisma and everything get some cheers because he's that good at it.

Cody getting cheered while Rock is doing his best stuff in years is a testament to how over he truly is. Most faces would have been booed by the fans against Rock in this role. That’s why I hope WWE’s plan when doing Rock/Roman isn’t Roman as a face. He’d get destroyed.

I'm happy for Cody. If they play this right he's going to be their biggest babyface since John Cena. People really like him.
I can't remember a bigger possible rub since Lesnar beat the streak. I think they'll do the right thing. The kids love Cody and you can still have him fued with Rock and Bloodline after Mania.
Remember when Triple H put over Batista 3 times in a row? Big Dave was the hottest act in the company for years after that. People non ironically holding 'Batista Bomb' signs.
