There's a dickish asshole in me that would love to see WWE scramble if either Roman or Cody got injured and had to miss Mania this coming year.
Kudos to them for miraculously not stunting Cody's momentum after Mania but you still tanked the biggest show of the year to push a nebulous future match that may or may not actually happen.

That’s my view too. Like, yeah, he’s still over massively and good for them but people are going to remember this year’s match as one where Cody lost after a typical Roman finish, a rubber chicken was thrown into the ring and landed next to him and the LA crowd couldn’t leave fast enough after staying the previous night to celebrate Owens and Zayn’s big win. It’s like Daniel Bryan’s win in 2014. Yeah, he won at the end but that goes part in parcel to the fact the company had to be verbally dragged kicking and screaming to make that happen.

Or even that time when they spent 6 months building to Roman dethroning Brock at WrestleMania only for Vince to decide he'd rather troll the audience than give Roman a win and then he just kept making him look like a bitch until he finally won at SummerSlam and nobody cared anymore.

Difference there is that the crowd didn’t like Roman so it was easy for them not to care come Summerslam. The opposite is true of Cody. He’s still a fresh character and is still massively over.

Yeah I'm sure they would but like, it does t wash away the stink of ruining the biggest show of the year just for a nebulous match that may or may not happen. Overlong builds are usually terrible ideas if they're predicated on a specific match happening at a specific time.

Yea I mean no offense to Sami, but he was an upper mid-carder for years and because of his angle with Roman, got a PPV main event on a B show that felt like a Mania main event. I am sure they can build up Gunther or whoever by Mania time.

Late here but:
I just want to say that I really hated that Cody held his own with Brock Lesnar with a broken arm. Not only that, he refused to give up when his broken arm was in one of the most devastating arm submissions out there.
OP.

The popular, heavily pushed, but questionably booked bleached blonde American hero has trouble dethroning the A'naoi holding the championship. Sooner or later, the more popular Canadian that ought to be main eventing more, but isn't, will take the championship, instead of the American. Basically Cody = Lex Luger Roman = Yoko Sami = Bret Hart Time is a flat circle.

One of the weirdest things pro wrestling has forgotten (and very few seem to get, Moxley being one of them) is that Austin didn’t pass out from the Sharpshooter from Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13 because he was in the Sharpshooter but because he had lost a gallon of blood which is a pretty important thing to have in the body. If you’re in something like the Kimora for long time and still have oxygen, the only real outcome if you don’t tap is for it to dislodged and get ripped out of your body like it’s Wrestling Revolution 3D so then Brock can beat you to death with it. Anything else is just avoiding having Cody tapping out after having a broken arm.

Cody then could cut a promo being like "You broke my arm, but not my fighting spirit".

And it wouldn't make Cody look weak either. He could sell it big time. "Even with a broken arm, I wanted to fight, but the ref stopped the match, not Brock Lesnar."

"Even with a broken arm, I wanted to fight, but the ref stopped the match, not Brock Lesnar." Even without the ending, he was allowed to compete and almost had Brock beat a few times. With a broken arm. I guess the rest of the roster are just a bunch of chumps. He almost beat Brock with just one arm! Broken arm angle really took me out of it.

So how many times is Rhea going to get in the way with that big 'ol shit-eating grin on her face in that match?

Cody keeps beating the allegations and I love that for him I feel like we're at the billionth time someone said people would boo Cody like they did over in AEW, and his cheers just get bigger and bigger instead.
