I wonder if the fans in attendance will turn against this match the way the fans online have. And I wonder how The Rock will react if he’s getting booed during his promos, because he’s shown he can’t handle anything other than the script going exactly to plan (getting called out for writing notes on his wrist) and the fans cheering him (Royal Rumble 2015)

From Dave: Dwayne pushed super hard for it. Read last week's issue and this week's. The card changed when Punk & Brock were out and all the dominoes fell. Dwayne already wanted it and they felt they now needed it as well. Felt this was better to change the news flow away from Vince. Cody was the plan. Dwayne was going to face him later, maybe next year's Mania, maybe Saudi. Shit happens with Vince and Punk, the Vince thing ends up worse than they thought and they changed the plan. I literally didn't know until yesterday that it could change and then I was told it's under lock. But 100% it was Punk vs. Seth and Cody vs. Reigns until Punk got hurt. He better confirm this 100% because this is the type of shit that turns a heart black with mark anger. If that's true, f*** him. Rock tanked his reputation with the way he handled Black Adam and then started a live-action Moana Movie just to boost his own ego This would about do it for me, dude's a tool.

Also this completely smells of the Rock just finding any reason to convince WWE to book it.

Again, not buying it unless it happens. Ok It's not happening. And again even if it did, even in your scenario where Cody faces Roman and gets the belt, they blew it, and this storyline got completely f***ing curtailed because of The Rock's ego In no scenario does WWE walk out of this now looking smart or like they were right.

Oh, you just know they're doing this shit to try and distract everyone from the investigation into Vince. They're trying to Blizzard it. Making a Vince booking decision doesn’t help that at all… It's not about making a stupid booking decision, it's trying to distract from the absolute shitshow with Vince by going HEY LOOK, GUYS, THE ROCK IS GONNA BE AT WRESTLEMANIA! THE ROCK WRESTLING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS, GOING AGAINST ROMAN REIGNS! IGNORE ALL THAT OTHER STUFF! LOOK AT THE KEYS WHILE WE JINGLE THEM! THE ROCK!Which is the kind of shit that happens when companies - like Blizzard - know that there's going to be some negative press coming their way and want to try and either drown it out or distract from it.

Stupid is the only word for this. Absolutely stupid! This is WrestleMania 30 build up all over again, but unfortunately, I don't think the fans are going to turn on The Rock because he's too big of a star.
So, Cody win's the Royal Rumble for a second year in a row, has another chance to "finish the story," even after pointing the Reigns and saying "I WANT THAT ONE!" he gives his second chance at greatness to The Rock? It doesn't even make sense. Roman Reigns is in "God Mode," he's at the top of his game, he just beat 3 guys in one match. He has ALL the momentum. Plus, the Bloodline by his side. He's 100 percent and the main villain in the company, who's beaten everyone, and has held the WWE Championship hostage for over 1000 days. That's the guy anyone would want to beat and the belt anyone would want to win.
Seth is working hurt right now, and might not be 100 percent at WrestleMania, has a belt Cody's never really wanted, and Cody has beaten him on multiple occasions, including with a torn pectoral muscle. Why would Cody not want to finish the story at the biggest show of the year against the man that screwed him out of the win last year when he has EARNED that right to do so. Why? It's so unbelievably stupid!

Yeah apparently plans changed for this too, Cody got screwed over after the Rumble if Meltzer is correct Fun isn't it? How terrible the booking still is? We don't know where the booking is headed though. This is the big problem with the insistence on screaming that the sky is falling here. Refusing to even step back and wait on something because THE WORST MUST ALWAYS HAPPEN EVEN IF IT'S NOT is completely nonsensical. I think for me the issue has been that the booking of this title reign has consistently been utter nonsense. Last year they had the perfect ending set up at Wrestlemania with everything that Roman had done for the last 2 1/2 years finally coming home to roost on the biggest stage of his title reign in the biggest match in wrestling. Cody was the perfect foil for Roman, the returning hero ready to finally put an end to Roman's Reign of terror. His actions reunited Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens who now have the back of his toughest challenge to date in order to combat his stable. With his constant mistreatment of the Usos it seemed plausible they'd finally have had enough of Roman. And then... Roman wins in the most anticlimactic ending since Wrestlemania 34. At that point everybody emphasized that Roman had story left to finish with Zayn, Owens and the Usos. Now Zayn and Owen's are split up with their tag title reign really amounting to nothing, and the Usos storyline having the stupidest booking decision that they conceivably have made in any this situation with Jimmy turning heel... In a story that has also gone nowhere and was an inconsequential part of the Rumble at large. I just fail to see where their booking had given us any cause to believe that they won't do the stupidest thing possible.

Punk getting injured really screwed up WrestleMania plans. Best case scenario IMO is for Cody to beat Roman at Elimination Chamber, finishing his story, with the actual Chamber match determining Seth’s opponent for Mania. Roman then faces Rock at WrestleMania. But most likely, Cody will challenge Seth for his “participation trophy” title, with Rock vs Roman being for the real title. If this happens, I’m actually rooting for Roman to retain. I have zero interest in a Rock title reign in 2024.
