That's pretty bad.
Honestly it maybe time for Feige to step aside, he's been in charge for ten years so wouldn't be surprised if he's running on fumes at this point.

Movie's presently tracking to do a worse opening weekend than Black Adam and The Flash so that's not great. Can’t wait for the MSheU arseholes to take a victory lap over this even though the flopping has zero to do with the things they cry themselves to sleep about.

It's been long rumoured that Feige is stretched too thin. Remember, since Endgame was released he's not only overseen every Marvel Studios production – which has seen more releases in four years than in the previous ten combined – but also the comics and animation divisions as well. The man just has too much on his plate.

I think it's a mix of factors - feel like it's very safe to say that after No Way Home a lot of people just lost interest in the MCU and in general the entries in it are generally receiving worse critical and fan reception than they used to, they've been putting out way too many MCU projects, Disney's in general had a very hard sell of their projects in theaters since Disney+ came into being, the first movie while decent I don't think is really much of anybody's favorite or anything, there hasn't really been a giant amount of marketing for this one and it doesn't have a particularly clear or interesting hook on paper, and in general while you still get some breakthrough hits I think it's pretty clear that superhero movies completely dominating the box office is a thing of the past at this point, at least for now.

Oh they're already taking victory laps and claiming empty theatres and the movie hasn't even come out yet.
My friend and I plan to go this weekend but for some reason we couldn't buy tickets even a few days ago which is weird.

I think people were expecting more from the "multiverse" concept. That we would be knee deep in X-Men and Defenders by this point. But, for a variety of reasons, many beyond Feige's control, that hasn't really happened outside of No Way Home and a few other small bits here and there. So, without the main hook that this phase, people are losing interest.

Alternately, perhaps casuals are being put off by the potential of having to watch a dozen more movies released 20+ years ago (many of which were critically panned) to make sense of the current movies and decided it's too much.

No, I think if we've learned anything over the last twenty years from the success of the MCU it's that people like continuity. They like seeing old favorites come back, they like seeing a surprising face, they like old stories from their past being referenced, they like finding out about stories from years ago that they missed. And No Way Home proved that, if told well, they can easily catch new viewers up on the important parts of the story they're not familiar with.

And No Way Home proved that, if told well, they can easily catch new viewers up on the important parts of the story they're not familiar with. I have a theory. The first phases, they weren't really A story till the end. You could watch Iron Man or Captain America, or Guardians and they were all their own thing, which then came together in the Avengers Movies, gradually becoming this big event. Since then, everyone's expecting everything to tie together, the whole universe is 1 story so you HAVE to watch everything which is leading to burnout. Plus, they've been hitting the more obscure stuff more and more. Ok they weren't the top, top characters but Iron Man, Cap etc. had important roles to play, and you had Guardians as the 1 really obscure outlier once things have been rolling. Ant-Man was pretty much established as a B list hero in the wider consciousness, you have the Eternals, Shang Chi. Who are the "main" heroes at this point and what are they doing? Things seem a bit aimless. There's no one to really build around. Black Panther might have been that guy but tragedy intervened. Everyone feels like they're off on sidequests. This might have been better served by having the Thunderbolts as the centrepiece rather than Kang who, again, reality aside, is seeming a bit aimless. Have a straight up movie where you have a few of the remaining Avengers defeated, this new group comes in saves the day setting them up as a big deal, then you play out the heors banding together, uncovering the conspiracy etc. There's a goal and something for the audience to look forward to.

I kind of feel bad because Ms. Marvel was probably one of the last Marvel things I've liked lately and it's going to be a bummer to see it flop. It's all starting to remind me of The Walking Dead in that there's still a core audience that really cares but we're at the tail end of these things being mainstream popular, at least for now.

I remember 5-7 years ago some of my friends complaining about everything being connected and they were kind of done with it. Comics are my jam so I'm still loving this ride for the most part. However, there is definite fatigue with a portion of the audience. I think also there are some saying oh none of this measures up to Thanos, forgetting that he was built up over 10 years and is one hell of a climax. You can't just go from that to another super crazy threat.
Still, the line to Kang does seem a lot more circuitous even though initially the build for Thanos was largely in stingers.

I'm still enjoying the MCU, but it really has felt like it's lost steam. I think the general public was used to Iron Man and Captain America being out in front of the franchise and when they left so did a lot of people. The "new" characters haven't connected enough for most people. I think Chadwick passing hurt a bit too. I don't know.

I think it’s just way under delivering over and over. Other than Spider-Man and guardians, nothing in phase 4 was very good. And secret invasion was a huge letdown. You’re now setting the expectation that things ARENT going to be good, which is the opposite of the previous 10 years.

Hardcore fans love that, sure, but the strength of the MCU has been its ability to draw casual audiences into the theatres, and all indications point towards the casual audiences are starting to tune out – they're not watching the Disney+ shows, they haven't been going to theatres, and they weren't necessarily going to watch comic book movies back in the days when Kevin Feige was doing coffee runs for Avi Arad. No Way Home did benefit from the crossover with Maguire and Garfield's movies, but those movies were also extremely popular with casual audiences, and Spider-Man is a huge draw in any case. Is the casual audience going to be quite so excited for returns of Nic Cage's Ghost Rider, Ben Affleck's Daredevil, any non-Wolverine X-Man, or any previous incarnation of the Fantastic Four? Probably not.

Yeah, had Secret Invasion been even decent, I think it would've set everything up for being positive going forward. It was a complete let down (I thought it was ok, but I was absolutely expecting more) and now people are just struggling to care. Even a really good Season 2 of Loki isn't making waves with the general public it seems. I'm assuming this is why the news about RDJ, Chris Evans, and ScarJo were thrown out there. It's not going to help The Marvels, but maybe going forward after. The only thing that will help The Marvels is good word of mouth, but with the dude bros salivating at this not doing well, good word of mouth may not help either.

Secret Invasion was a wet fart on top of its infamy for using AI-generated garbage in the intro.

You’re now setting the expectation that things ARENT going to be good, which is the opposite of the previous 10 years. This is my belief too. The more they churn out, the further the MCU seems to drift away from the reassurance of high quality. I thought Black Widow was a pretty good palete-cleanser for what it was, and No Way Home and Guardians 4 were clear standouts, as you say. But Eternals felt like the first big MCU release in a long time to be widely critically panned, which sort of set the tone moving forwards. If the viewer isn't as invested post-Endgame, then Shang-Chi, Thor 4, Quantumania etc could start to feel like CGI-heavy, formulaic, thinly-plotted pieces of the MCU puzzle rather than anything that actually matters. The D+ shows since have ranged from great to really poor so they're hardly an indicator of consistent quality either.
