Sure, Bob. Whatever you say. conveniently ignoring the main issue of not having the movie's three main actresses around to promote it because of a strike they refused to resolve in a timely matter over greed.

Online newspapers just chomp at the bit to find movie screen shots that’ll bolster their negative articles for clicks. Every bad review of Mario has him looking like “Ehhh?” or “Mama mia!” Every Wish article has the girl and the goat screaming , every Marvels article has Captain Marvel looking concerned.
Kinda makes me long for the days when the bad Ayer-Squad reviews had the Joker all “yeah!” like he didn’t care what the critics had to say.

Yes, that's exactly what movies need. More meddling from studio executives.

If critics don’t like that Garfield movie I want to see him just chilling and eating lasagna. The New Yorker: “GARFIELD IS A DECADENT MESS THAT SAYS BAD THINGS ABOUT OUR CAPITALIST CULTURE” and he’s got his shades on, smiling like “Big fat hairy deal.”

I think the oversight might be more coming in the form of "Hey, do we REALLY need to spend $200+ million pre-marketing on The Marvels?" or "Is Indy 5 being the most expensive movie ever made critical to the story you're trying to tell? Think we could tighten that up a bit?" or "Somebody approved $100 million for a sequel to f***ing WILLOW?!?! AND they're still employed?!?" While tighter budgets are absolutely necessary, Iger specifically talks about having more executives on the set to maintain quality. That's long after the money horse has bolted.

I really don't know why 1), the quality has slipped as evidenced by both critics and general word of mouth, and 2), Disney+ has conditioned people to just wait instead of going to theaters are so hard of things to grasp. They're clearly the main things causing the issues, especially since other than Guardians of the Galaxy basically every single thing Disney has put out this year regardless of property has flopped or at best underperformed.

Looks like they're learning all the wrong lessons from this flopping. More studio bean-counters on-set. Smh

Disney+ was the letting the genie out of the bottle they can never undo.
I will never go to the theater at the prices they charge, and having pretentious directors shit on me for not doing to pushes me further and further away from going back.

Finally got around to seeing the Marvels and it wasn't very good.
Yes, it was better than Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Iman Vellani did her best but that doesn't save it from being a big fat meh.
And honestly even if the SAG-AFTRA strike never happened this movie would have still most likely crashed and burned at the box office.
I really wish the MCU stans would just admit that superhero movie fatigue is real and the days of mediocre MCU movies making bank are now over.

I don't think superhero movie fatigue is real but superhero bad movie after bad movie fatigue is real. Not to mention I think the Disney+ tv shows have done massive damage to the MCU movie brand. When you keep delivering mediocre to bad movies one after the other and with no clear plan the audience can see and understand leading to the next Avengers movie, you are hurting the general audience that loves the MCU. After Endgame, between the movies and the tv shows, there was only 3 movies I loved: both Spiderman's and GOTG Vol 3.
Movies like Captain America the Winter Soldier and Civil War do not even seem to be in the same universe as The Marvels. This shows Kevin Feige has lost his vision?

When do we get that live action variety show, starring Goose the Cat with Brie Larson as his sidekick?

This landed on D+ today, I caught it this evening so time to bump this thread I guess...
A lot of the criticism certainly feels valid. Narratively there's absolutely nothing to get your teeth into, it barely gives any emotional weight to anything, it's edited terribly; really the worst example of Marvel Studios' "make it make sense in Post" approach coming home to roost.
There is some good:
- Vellani is excellent and I love Kamala's family - The place-switching set pieces are fun - I'll admit to finding the Flerkens scene really funny - Arguably the most compelling Carol has been as a character in any film - Kate's throwaway 'I'm 23' line loool - The shorter runtime is genuinely appreciated
So it's... fine? And, well, fun? Just clearly not weighty enough for a release at a time Disney badly needed a winner.

Vellani really is the stand-out in this. I hope she shows up again sooner than later.

Man I came into bump this thread because I watched it tonight and I find like all the points I was going to make taken? Boooo to you sir/madam! The Flerkens scene I really did enjoy. Like you say it was fine, and I give it a bonus point for the runtime. 93 mins then credits? I’ll take that thank you very much Will I watch it again? Probably not but it is far far from the worst they’ve put out post End Game, heck it’s not even the worst thing in Phase 5 But the fact that MCU has went from need to see this in cinema to “Eh I’ll wait a few months, watch it on Disney Plus on a quiet Saturday night whilst doing my ironing” really speaks volumes about where it is right now Edit: I totally forgot Monica got her superpowers in WandaVision. Considering it’s been 2 and a half years and I’ve got a terrible memory I’m not surprised

I rewatched it today for the first time since I saw it in the cinemas. I had a great time with it and think I enjoyed it more this time. The three main stars had great chemistry and the bit where they figure out the switching genuinely seemed like they were having a ton of fun. I totally acknowledge that for some it won't make a ton of sense, especially if they weren't up to date on D+ stuff. A friend of mine watched it for the first time last week and felt there should have been another movie in between dealing with Captain Marvel and Hala. That said, I think this was an adequate sequel. It probably could have used a bit more time for certain beats to sink in, but the movie was fun. I know there was some contention earlier in the thread but I just had a good fun time. There are certain Marvel movies that I revisit from time to time when I don't feel like watching something new. This might actually fall into that. The short runtime definitely helps its case.

I enjoyed it but it that was really only because of the cast and their chemistry. Which seems to me to be the only reason for the movie. The plot, the villain, completely unnecessary. No real weight. Just an excuse to get the cast together.
Same with Eternals. I enjoyed it but it didnt have any real need to exist, other than to let Chloe Zhao make a gorgeous movie.

Watched it a couple more times on streaming, and like it more. The big thing is still obviously the chemistry between The Marvels.
One thing I've noticed is that Samuel L Jackson seems to be having a lot more fun in this movie, like he's relieved he gets to play Fury as more comedic than usual.
