I will never understand people's NEED for this movie to bomb. The posts and tweets from the haters look like they're pleasuring themselves over this movie not doing well. It's not healthy. Were you around for the Avatar 2 discourse? Because boy howdy. My only issue with Avatar 2 was the fact that it took 13 years (I think) for the second movie to come out and it felt like it was a really similar premise without the presentation of a "newish" technology of 3D to lean on. I wasn't sure if the audience would be there and I was ABSOLUTELY incorrect on that. Granted, I still haven't seen it. LOL

My big problem with that cameo… {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}…is that while it’s cute and all having Kamala riff on Fury’s role in Iron Man…we’re about to jump into the Kang Dynasty. A Kang Variant is a major part of the Young Avengers in the comics. Loki season 2 showed that there’s good guy Kang variants out there. There’s no reason the Council of Kangs shouldn’t hand the active Avengers their ass and Iron Lad unites the Young Avengers as a resistance. Tie it all together with some real stakes. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I still haven't finished Loki... so I definitely need to do that tonight. LOL {Spoiler}Loki has done all of the heavy lifting for setting up Avengers 4&5. Boy is gonna go out the MVP of the MCU. I have a feeling that Brie Larson might bow out after those movies especially since I think Monica might take over the Captain Marvel moniker after those. Every universe they’ve been to so far Maria was the super powered one. Our Carol might be the one and only.

Were you around for the Avatar 2 discourse? Because boy howdy. Look no further from the backlash of "The Little Mermaid." Even then, I am certain some of them were from a bunch of hardcore rightists (yes, I know topics like that aren't allowed here, but this is as far as I will go), or so they claim because a lot of people on the internet thrive on hate and anger.

One thing, I think the pandemic really messed with things. Yes I know that probably seems obvious, there were numerous series delays, reshoots required, Wandavision had to change its ending and so on. What I'm getting at though is a complaint I've seen about Marvel since Endgame is that it feels like it's meandering, like it's not going anywhere or that it's taking too long to get where it's going. I almost wonder if there had been no pandemic and everything had been able to come out on schedule if that would still hold true. I imagine to some degree it would, but perhaps we'd be a year or more further into the plan, potentially already at Kang Dynasty. If that were the case would we still see as many of those talking points? I think much like the branches of the multiverse, the MCU’s narrative branches in too many directions. They jumped into the spooky side of the MCU, the multiverse, they set up the Thunderbolts, they set up the Young Avengers and outside of Quantumania they haven’t really hinted at what’s coming with Kang. Dr. Strange 2 and The Marvels explored the multiverse but in the big scheme of things didn’t move us enough on the road to Kang. No movement on Shang-Chi's mid credits scene as well. Hell, not even one mention or glimpse of Shang-Chi. I saw the movie today, and liked it. I'll echo what others have said it was fun. {Spoiler}The first fight scene with them switching places was fantastic. Seriously, that was great. About the box office, one thing that can't be ignored is that the MCU is cold right now. They haven't been able to get any momentum going after Endgame. You'll get a Shang-Chi, or Guardians 3, but it's followed up by something that falls flat. And it's like that with the action figures as well. I can go down the toy aisle of Walmart and so many Marvel Legends are just warming the pegs. It's not MCU, but Across the Spider-Verse Marvel Legends kept selling out, but new waves of Marvel stuff are just sitting there. MCU all around is cold right now, and they've gotta figure something out.

Nothing overt though, obviously.

Well, I quite enjoyed that movie. The Khan family are just the f***ing best, I would love to see another season of Ms Marvel. And Carol came across much more likeable in this movie than her other appearances. It’s not a must see movie, but if you like any of the 3 leads I think you’ll enjoy it.

I'd love to see another season of Ms. Marvel. Find some way to make it kind of outside the MCU proper involving the family. It can still have a connection to the MCU, but just make it lower stakes. I don't know if they will, but I'd love to see it.

My sister and I saw it today. I really enjoyed it and she loved it. Not really seeing what all the discourse is about. Does it have it's problems? Sure, but you can say that about ANY MOVIE. My favorite MCU films are No Way Home, Endgame and Civil War, and I will freely admit they all have problems. But this was good, harmless fun. It didn't overstay it's welcome at all and it had the right balance of action, comedy and drama. At the end of the day, it's a comic book superhero movie, not Citizen Kane or Saving Private Ryan. Last time I checked, it was supposed to be fun. Anyway, my spoilered thoughts on the film itself: {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I loved seeing Kamala and her family again. Was disappointed we didn't get any other characters from Ms. Marvel, not even Amair's wife. That first fight scene was amazing. The switching back and forth and Fury quickly coming to terms with the situation and even taking a liking to Kamala was awesome. Monica having a stick up her ass when it came to Carol was annoying, but understandable. I did like that Carol was accepting of Kamala's fangirling, especially once we learned what she's been dealing with mentally since Captain Marvel. The flashbacks to the Blip were heartbreaking. The baby Flerken were sooooo cute!!!! I popped wicked hard for the Kate Bishop cameo, especially since I've been saying since Ms. Marvel that I want a Kamala Khan/Kat Bishop/Yelena Belova team-up film/show. The credit scene was more confusing than anything, when you try to work out the multiversal stuff, but that'll get cleared up in time (hopefully). All in all, a very fun time.

Some good points. The Captain Marvel hasn't been seen in nearly 5 years is a great point. And I think that's a big reason the MCU has cooled off. We don't have a main character for the MCU. Till Endgame, the MCU's mains were Tony and Steve, with Thor right behind them. We went on the journey with them, we identified with them and got invested. We don't have a main character, with the possible exception of Kang, and they might be dialing back on Kang. Who wants the main to be a villain that constantly takes Ls, that doesn't really set him up as a threat. Who the f*** is our main character? Who are we going on this journey with? MCU hasn't given us anybody.
Granted Chadwick's death caused a massive shift, since all reports are that he was supposed to be a main character.

Ultimately watching a film is supposed to be fun and relaxing. What you get out of a film is ultimately up to you. Its why I'm disappointed at the discourse of modern cinema where bigger problems (AI algorithms, ballooning theater prices, massive movie budgets) are swept under the rug and the MCU is the punching bag for a lot of these "auteurs."

It says a lot that even the people who saw this movie and didn’t dislike it can only focus on other people not liking it and saying “It was fun I guess! Ever try not hating fun?” because there doesn’t seem to be too much to say about the film itself one way or the other. I’ll watch it when it hits Disney+ but the trailers have been so soulless and even barring the strike, which I am sure did a number on the media tour for the movie, there’s so little hype behind it and not really any angle I can see them taking to tell a story that will be compelling, and that’s as someone who enjoyed the Ms. Marvel show. I’m glad Marvel seems to be taking a step back and reevaluating their plans going forward because I used to see every MCU day one but a lot of the shows and the movies lately have been mediocre, unfocused, and even visually charmless and unappealing. I want them to turn it back around because I like when things are good, because I enjoy having good things to watch, and I’m really looking forward to Echo as an example of the kind of focused, character-driven storytelling with clean action that I want them to get back to. This is like the third MCU movie in a row where I’m like “naaaahhhh I’ve gotta wait on this one” which would have been unthinkable to me a few years ago but Eternals was really a turning point for me. While "it's fun" has been a common refrain from many of us, several of us did give more concrete thoughts on why we had fun and what we enjoyed. Iman Vellani stole the show and continued to show why she was the correct choice for Ms Marvel. The 3 main actors had great chemistry. As a sequel it touches on a lot of the threads from the first and does a good job of following up despite all that's come between them. The comedy generally hits though your mileage may vary. However, even for those who didn't enjoy the comedy, it rarely overstayed its welcome. It does not require you to have watched the D+ shows, though I do feel that the Ms Marvel show would give those unfamiliar with the character a better sense of what she's about (her family is quite important to her, which is partly why they are as prominent as thy are). The tricky thing is, we're trying to avoid too many spoilers and I feel some of the negatives do get into spoiler zone. That said, I feel like the villain could have been better developed. We got the briefest of reasons for why they're doing what they're doing but it didn't quite hit true. They just kinda felt flat. However, this has been true of past MCU villains going all the way back to the first Iron Man. I'd say the movie is a 6.5 or 7/10. Above average but not particularly amazing or anything. That said, I genuinely had fun watching it.
And like, people don't owe you an explanation about why they like things. Some people just need for everyone to validate their opinions and it's getting kinda sad. A wise wrestling commentator said "like what you like, don't be a dick". Saw it last night with mum and we both enjoyed it.

I have a feeling that the sexist anti-marvels folk didn't even see the movie to begin with. Have a feeling The Marvels will gross less this weekend than Thanksgiving (The long awaited movie based on a fake trailer from Grindhouse)
