I still have a soft spot for nu metal.
When I started getting into heavier music I didn't want to be seen as uncool so developed the "Yeah man Nu metal sucks" attitude.. an attitude I regret.. I don't have to impress anyone with what I like.
Anyway not all of it has aged well but some of it is still an enjoyable listen from time to time.
Deftones - White Pony is an album that has aged really well.
American Headcharge - The war of art is a very underrated nu metal album.

That first American Head Charge album is fantastic. A shame that everything else they did sucks. I helped pay for the crowd fund for Tango Umbrella and it's garbage

It's amazing to me how many people just don't seem to actually read what I say about Kanye. Never once said his work wasn't good or influential, which is all anyone seems to hear when you criticize him. What I said is that he isn't a genius or an innovator. And he isn't. If he was, someone would be able to point to something he actually innovated, not just go "Well, he made some really popular records." Success does NOT make you a genius or innovator. If that was the case, we would have to count Carly Rae Jepsen and Taco as geniuses and innovators. Hell, Creed has sold more than 53 MILLION albums, almost double what Kanye has sold, and nobody had ever tried to tag them as geniuses or innovators. The cult around this guy is so strange. What rap producers do you consider to actually be geniuses/innovative? Outside of Rap producers who came out when hip hop was first created back in the 70s/80s I don't know enough about what goes on in the studio, all these dude's creative process to say "that guy right there is doing something different/nobody else has done that before"

I have always been a sucker for female pop acts, whether they are solo singers or groups. Even the teen stuff is pretty catchy, despite how cheesy the music is.

Al Yankovic belongs in the HOF. I'm not sure if this is a hot take anymore. If it is, it shouldn't be.

There aren't enough non-country songs about fishing. I just know Bron Breakker would 100% agree with this.

I prefer Nine Inch Nails version of Hurt over Johnny Cashes. I find late era Johnny Cash unlistenable. "Hurt" especially.

P. Diddy may not have been the best rapper, but he has done a lot for hip-hop. You also can't deny that "No Way Out" was a good album.
While on the subject about "bad" rappers, Master P was regarded as one of the worst rappers ever. Personally, while he was never a great rapper, he has done some good albums. I will always think "Ice Cream Man" and "Ghetto Dope" were his best ones. As for his brothers, C-Murder, despite his run-ins with the law, was always the better rapper when it came to the Miller brothers. Silkk the Shocker, however, was not really good as a rapper.

I've been saying that for years. I figure basically everything Tuomas said about Tarja is at best a massive distortion and at worst a total lie. The way they fired her should have killed that f***ing band dead! (Didn't they record the f***ing Show after which they told her to leave?) EDIT: He fired the second Vocalist for being pregnant? How the hell is this Band still a thing? I think the reason is basically like Journey's ultimatum to Steve Perry that got him to quit when he had health issues, where it was less that she got pregnant and more that they were desperate to tour to make their money and went about it in a really callous-seeming way. I do agree that they come off really bad with both of these firings, though, and I think they at least have admitted firing Tarja publicly was dickish and unnecessary. Apparently, the bassist of the time who has also left Nightwish since then has apologized to her in person, but none of the others have, though she has at least said she wouldn't rule out a further reconciliation and maybe reuniting someday. She also wrote the songwriter when his father died and that apparently helped cool things off a bit.

Led Zeppelin is hugely overrated. Rage Against The Machine has zero actual talent and was only popular because political topics. Also Tim is a major asshole. Machine Head hasn't had a good album since Through The Ashes Of Empires. Pearl Jam is one of the worst bands in existence from a musical, lyrical, and vocal standpoint. Chris Barnes only has had longevity in metal because of his name value from his time in Cannibal Corpse, which was when they were more interested in being shocking than good.

This one's more of a question than a take :
Is it OK to like an artist's solo work if you don't like the group they're best known for?

In my case, I've really been liking Greg Puciato's solo work, but I can't stand Dillinger Escape Plan.

Not a hot take, but I think one of the more interesting what ifs? about recent music is if Kurt Cobain never died. Dave Grohl was working on Foo Fighters stuff when he was very much still in Nirvana and Kurt even heard some of his early demos (which he liked a lot). Would the Foos have ever blown up like they did? Would Nirvana break up or find a new drummer or would Dave have tried to make him being in both bands work? Would music snobs complain about Kurt selling out when he puts out a folksy Christmas album available exclusively at Starbucks?

This one's more of a question than a take : Is it OK to like an artist's solo work if you don't like the group they're best known for? Well, being the person I am, I would say it's okay. I could imagine someone liking Gwen Stefani's solo work but not really being into No Doubt, or David Lee Roth's solo work but not his work with Van Halen. It's okay because people can form their own thoughts. With that being said, I actually wonder if people appreciate rappers who originated in groups but didn't like the group he/she was in. For example, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, they all had solo work after N.W.A. The same could be said about Bone members or Wu members and having solo work (although for Bone, Wish still hasn't released a solo album).
