Sadly, it looks like SCTV is starting to go in that direction, as it's not that well known today, well, aside from comedy nerds like myself.

I had to check since I'm pretty sure most people in the U.S. know Mr. Bean more than Blackadder (even if just because of the movie). I know here in Canada (or my neck of it), at least with people my age (late 30s), Mr Bean is far more popular. It was on CBC for years. I never heard of Black Adder until high school when one friend made me aware of it. Yeah, Mr. Bean on CBC, lots of kids saw it. Then CBC went to 100% Canadian content and the only show I recall surviving that was the Simpsons. Not sure how that exactly happened but my guess is Homer Groening being from Saskatchewan? Or a few writers over the years were Canadian.

Yeah, Matt Groening was credited as creator if I recall and you know how much we Canadians love to claim famous people no matter how weak the connection. Plus I'm sure it made them some good money.

Getting into Anime, thanks to the Toonami airings and having a box set just as DVD was starting to get big, Tenchi Muyo was a pretty big hit among casual anime fans. Not so much now (I wonder if it was due to the divided reaction to the GXP spinoff, Toonami wont even touch the later Tenchi OVAs due to that show being a colossal bomb).

I'm kind of surprised that we haven't seen attempts at revivals given how many Second City alum there are in prominent positions. Hell, two of the top late night hosts are Second City alum. Granted theirs was SC Chicago, rather than Toronto where we got the show from, but I figure at some point, someone would have tried to revive this.
It's also a bit surreal to walk into Second City Toronto and take a look at the walls and realize that a who's who of Canadian comedy passed through there at one point or another.

Well, if they did it would have to ditch the whole framing story of SCTV being a small-town tv station, since that concept wouldnt really work in this day and age.

Thinking about it..for how awesome the theme song is, I think once Perfect Strangers had its final season, it pretty much faded out. Especially compared to its spin-off show Family Matters I think it was the second to last season where they found out their house was haunted. Even as a kid, that was too much for me and I stopped watching. Same with Family Matters once Steve has a new invention every week. I have no idea why these shows did such ridiculous plots consider the writing wasn't very good to begin with.

Perfect STrangers had/has enough impact that Bronson Pinchot is more commonly referred to as Balki than his own name.

Codename: Kids Next Door in 2000s Cartoon Network, I don't hear a peep about it anymore but it had a big cult following.

Family Ties. Good luck getting over a character like Alex Keaton today.

Despite being a succesful spinoff of All in the Family, nobody really brings up Maude anymore, I dont think it's even being rerun. Looks like Bea Arthur will only be known as Dorothy.

Let's not discount her role in the Star Wars holiday special, now. I just did a big rewatch of Alf, which is something that was already in syndication when I was a kid. It's weird to me that it burned out so fast. I can see why with the sitcom, but just the character in general being left in pop-culture's dust.

ALF is awesome and I hate that this is what The Simpsons has done to it.

I will check in a bit but for years either COZI or FETV aired Maude 2 hours every night. Was like 11pm central Mon-Friday. Benson has appeared to disappear. Seasons 1 and 2 ar eon DVD. And on some streaming services. But haven't found the rest of the run.

I believe the owner of ALF is extremely protective of ALF and is basically a maniac. So it’s not that ALF couldn’t be back, I just don’t think anyone wants to deal with the puppeteer.

Thinking about it..for how awesome the theme song is, I think once Perfect Strangers had its final season, it pretty much faded out. Especially compared to its spin-off show Family Matters Perfect Strangers doesn’t get the respect it deserves. It had some of the best slapstick physical comedy in a network sitcom. Above and beyond. Perfect Strangers was so disrespected that Mark Lynn-Baker appeared on the final season of Family Matters but NOT as Larry Appleton. That’d be like if Henry Winker guested on Laverne & Shirley but wasn’t the Fonz or Ted Danson showed up on Frasier but never acknowledged Sam Malone.
