Zaslav is slime, but my main belief as to why AEW is coming out so favorably is just that WBD doesn't own it. Obviously yeah there's all the ways AEW has performed well and delivers stuff that keeps the network happy, that's very real and very true. But AEW also can't be f***ed with in that regard. He can't shelf anything about AEW for tax write-offs, he can't lay anyone there off, he can't shut down a subsidiary and start bringing out the red stamp so he can try to min/max tax loopholes off of lost potential revenue from the closure. What AEW offers Zaslav is purely an arrangement for programming, so he's engaging with the deal like a network head engages with deals, instead of with a giant pair of scissors in hand wondering how he can approach this situation to make his performance bonus bigger. It’s why the WCW comparisons or ownership stuff that was rumored felt weird because we’d be hearing a lot more executive meddling stories about AEW if a) they weren’t happy and b) if there was public access to the finances of AEW to shareholders. Yeah and also as a privately owned entity, AEW doesn't have all the weird financial mismanagement/debt moving that Turner would do with WCW that, if we're being honest, is the REAL reason it went out of business.

Like, it was still doing good numbers at the time. If it was more in the black than the red, at the very least they might have shipped it to another Turner channel or changed days or something like that. But then you’d have needed Ted Turner still there and he was ousted when the AOL merger happened. But the wider point is that, as others have said, WBD ain’t running the day by day for it and they seem happy with what results from their “investment” so yeah…

Totally get why WBD and the NBA would continue the relationship, but I'm just saying, every year that goes by where we don't get this theme anymore is another year of unfulfilled potential:

Damn when you put it that way it's almost like the weekly ratings thread discourse is meaningless

Like sure there are issues most definitely but the "I must render mine garment looking for the light in this tunnel where I see none coming" verbiage compared to TNT being like "4 MILLION VIEWERS BABY!!!! WOO!!!" makes me laugh.

It's because what they perceive as doomsday is not what Warner does, the ones with the actual contracts, money, and say in AEW's future Which is why I always find any hand wringing hilarious... Warner hasn't hand wrung about this company like ONE TIME.

I will say Meltzer has been relatively positive lately on AEW numbers because he's (correct I believe acknowledging) that what is considered good/bad in terms of TV viewership is rapidly changing faster than ever before. Those numbers still matter but the numbers on the charts are changing for everyone across the board outside of the premier sports institutions (like the NFL, NBA, NCAA, and yes - WWE).

Luckily for most of LatAm, AEW has left the Vix streaming service and weekly shows are back on AEW+ through TrillerTV. I do not understand what possesed them to drop that service in the first place, but I'm glad to have it back.

Which, again, makes sense because they’re likely going full force with the NBA negotiations since, allegedly, they end exclusivity in April. So last thing they (and ESPN) want to do is waste time with it.

Can't wait until they sign a new 5 year contract and then we start hearing 'but what will happen in 2030'

Can't wait until they sign a new 5 year contract and then we start hearing 'but what will happen in 2030' And then it’ll be 5 years with an optional 1 year renewal and nitwits will be like “They’re just holding off the inevitable disappointment!”

AEW is literally dying and is a 1:1 copy of 2000’s WCW and 2012 TNA.
That’s what I’m supposed to say here, right? Isn’t this the http://www.f***stupidAEW.com message board?
